Despite it selling over 80 million units, time hasn’t been kind to the PlayStation Portable, with the industry remembering it as something of a flop. But we reckon Sony’s first shot at a handheld deserves a little more respect, as it was host to some amazing games – particularly Japan Studio’s various experiments like Patapon and, yes, LocoRoco.
A remastered version of the 2006 tilt-‘em-up is out on the PlayStation 4 today, and it’s a wonderful reminder of just how good the original was. The simplistic gameplay is complemented by a minimalistic art style, but it all combines to create a modern classic. This is available for peanuts from the PlayStation Store right now, so don’t miss out.

Best game.
Has the soundtrack been remastered or is it original recording? Those cute lil' things singing gets me every time!
Definitely interesting. May give it a try eventually. Money is tight right now
Love the soundtrack.
I can't get the song out of my head, everytime I see locoroco previews there's a band of locoroco singing in my head..
Also I can't find the game on psn usa.
@CountFunkula78 Almost certain it's the original recording.
@wiiware Should be out in a few hours.
@get2sammyb
Cool, it does sound sharper/brighter in your video than what I remember... Either way I'm going to be singing along, although no need to worry about people on the bus thinking there's something wrong with me...😀
LocoRoco is one of my absolute favourite IP's from the 00's app I'm ecstatic that it has been brought back
I'm sooooooo pumped! Can't wait to see it in 4k
I still don't quite understand how the PSP was considered a flop - I mean I know it had piracy problems and all that but 80 million in sales and a pretty extensive library seems ok to me. Anyway, nice to see a title from the platform get a good plug.
it's pretty great, but the weird audio stuttering during saving/loading/menu transitions is annoying. parappa remastered has the same problem.
@Rudy_Manchego It's the nature of the peception that comes into play for coming in second. PSP did incredibly well but fell far behind the DS so people felt (wrongly) that the PSP's success wasn't as impressive. Same thing happened with the PS3 despite it overtaking the 360 in lifetime sales, people still saw xbox as coming out on top. It's largely driven by the huge American games media where that market saw the likes of the DS and 360 been so dominant that they didn't take notice of how these things were selling in the rest of the world.
Never played LocoRoco before, but between this and the playstation access livestream I'm willing to give it a go.
Seems like a perfect Saturday morning game.
Never had a PSP so I will be definitely getting this one, as it looks, sounds and plays right up my alley.
I could never get into this game. Got to world 3 then just stopped. Remaster looks good though.
Never played it before but it looks cute. I'll buy it at some point in the future.
Got it and love it as much as I did on the PSP! Can't wait to show it to the kids!
@adf86 Which is all pretty crazy. Coca Cola sells more than Pepsi but you wouldn't call Pepsi a flop because the other sells more.
