This week was dominated by two big announcements from Sony: the PlayStation Plus lineup for August and PlayStation 4 firmware update v4.00. While we're still waiting for full details on the latter, the former has caused a bit of a commotion. In brighter news, there's been no shortage of great games lately, as both Headlander and Hyper Light Drifter scored big in our reviews.

Reviews
Hyper Light Drifter - 9/10
To put it simply, Hyper Light Drifter is incredible. Lovingly wrapped in a distinctly retro shell, the title fires on all cylinders. An intriguing, abstract narrative set in one of the most beautifully vivid world's we've ever seen helps provide a near flawless experience. Add in great combat and controls as well as an amazing soundtrack, and the end result is easily one of this year's must-plays. Its difficulty may scare away some, but for all who can cope, the experience is a truly rewarding one.
Headlander - 9/10
It's a testament to the excellence of Headlander that it can only be faulted for its slight technical flaws. Everything about it is so finely tuned, from its gunplay to its platforming to its puzzles, and it doesn't just stay true to classic Metroidvanias β it also builds upon the foundations that they laid. The story is well told, the characters are entertaining, the environments are fleshed out, and the humour is as brilliant as always. Headlander's one of the best games that Double Fine has ever produced.

Talking Point: Should Sony Ditch PS3, Vita Support for PlayStation Plus?
Like it or not, the PlayStation 3 and Vita are nearing the end of their lives. That's not to say that either system is irrelevant β this author's been playing the addictive Steamworld Heist on the latter lately β but they're not in their heyday anymore. Sony knows this: it's ceased talking about the PS3 almost entirely, and while it continues to cultivate a small but enthusiastic niche on the Vita, it recognises that the PlayStation 4 is the way forward for its business.
Hands On: Free MMO Neverwinter Is Well Worth Playing on PS4
A massively multiplayer online game based on the fiction of Dungeons & Dragons, Neverwinter is out now on PlayStation 4 - and it's totally free to download and play. At the time of writing, we've invested around 20 hours into the free-to-play foray, and we have to admit that it's actually quite difficult to put down. That may just be the nature of a good MMO, but for one that doesn't have to cost you a penny, we've been left rather impressed by Cryptic Studio's high fantasy outing.
