Shenmue PS4 PlayStation 4 Rumours

Remember the day the snow turned to rain? Yeah, sounds like a tall tale to us – a bit like this supposed Shenmue leak. The rumour appears to stem from a Japanese site, but has been picked up by some regional variants of IGN – and now we're here to tell you why it's more rubbish than Disc Four of the otherwise excellent Shenmue II.

Not exactly conclusive

As with any good leak, the story revolves around a murky photograph of a projector screen. It shows a similar jacket to protagonist Ryo Hazuki's, complete with identical embroidery and a trio of falling petals. These have various cuts in them, prompting speculation that remasters of the first two games in the series are on the way. One has three strikes, which allegedly hints at the long overdue third entry in the franchise.

There's a PlayStation 4 logo in the corner, as well as a Spring 2016 release date. While it's already ridiculously farfetched, though, the thing that really gives this fake away is the inclusion of Square Enix's logo alongside SEGA's – why would the Final Fantasy maker be involved? It doesn't really make sense.

To be honest, we wouldn't be surprised if Sony struck up a deal to remaster the Dreamcast games for its new-gen format – it's the most demanded series on the Third-Party Productions team's list, after all – but the story will never, ever get finished. Yu Suzuki would probably be better off writing a novel or something, because Shenmue III ain't getting made.
