DriveClub

Evolution Studios does not intend to keep DriveClub parked up once the PlayStation 4 launch title is on store shelves. Chatting with VG247, director Col Rodgers explained that the company considers the next generation racer a service, which it intends to lavish with new content over time.

“Ultimately, the game that you buy at launch will be the doorway to a wider experience that’s going to be fed week-on-week with brand new content,” he said. “That’s all going to be free, and the experience of DriveClub when it comes out is going to be absolutely huge.”

For those out of the loop, the PS4 racer aims to keep you connected to other players by incorporating dynamic challenges, team events, and more. It’s a format that lends itself nicely to free-to-play, and the firm believes that being a part of PlayStation Plus will augment it with an enormous audience right from the swish of its chequered flag.

“It means that there’s an instant community the moment that the PS4 launches,” added design director Paul Rustchynsky. “It’s a game about community, so there’s a community ready to go.” Downloading the free version of the game will grant you access to all of the full release's features and modes, but you’ll have to pay extra if you want the remaining tracks and cars.

“It’s a great way to allow players to access the core of DriveClub,” continued Rodgers. “Hopefully, everyone who’s excited about the game now is pre-ordering the retail disc, but the people who are on the fence are going to be able to try it out for free to see if they like it.”

We got some hands-on time with DriveClub at a recent event, and came away impressed with the racer’s social features. Do you intend to purchase the retail version, or test-drive the PlayStation Plus giveaway first? Let us know in the comments section below.
