Children aged between 6 and 12 in North America haven’t given up hope on the PlayStation Portable. In fact, the majority of them want one of the last generation handhelds more than the current PlayStation Vita this Christmas.
A research poll conducted by Nielsen revealed that while 18 per cent of kids are hungry for a PSP this holiday, just 14 per cent fancy a Vita. Perhaps they’re conscious of the pressures on their parents' wallets, or maybe they just heard that Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified isn’t very good.
Elsewhere, 26 per cent of the youngsters said that they want a PlayStation 3, while the majority of them voted for an iPad. Because 6 year olds really, y'know, need iPads.
In a separate study for people aged 13 and over, Nielsen found that just 4 per cent want a Vita. At least it managed to better the PSP this time, with 3 per cent interested in the aging device. Meanwhile, 8 per cent fancied a PS3, with the majority once again hankering for Apple's portable platform.
You can peruse the full list of findings though here.

Dear North American and other kids on the world,
You are sick. Apple is an overpaid product. Damn even my mom and dad are infected.
Really what games are then on a Vita for kids under 12? Only a handful.
@Savino If that happens all the Psp games on stores will start to collect dust remember that vita can't run retail psp games.
I'm getting my little sister a PSP instead of a Vita mainly because she doesn't game much at all and only wants to play Locoroco, Patapon, and LBP. I still think the PSP is an excellent gaming system for casual gamers, but halting production for focus on vita is likely a solid move considering how few PSP games are released these days.
That's bad news. Vita has a chance of dying.
You definitely can get more use from an iPad over a Vita, but a PSP over a Vita? Ha!
Apple makes great products. I'm writing this from a MacBook. Those who knock them show their envy. I personally will never own an iPad because I don't have a need for it, but I'm not stupid enough to knock it because I don't own one. Other companies make great Tablets, as well... I won't own one of those neither. Just don't have a need. It's merely a fancy toy that can do more than any portable gaming device.
I only know a handful of Vita owners, yet dozens of Tablet owners. Vita has a long way to go to become mainstream. I hope it happens. It's a fantastic machine! That damn screen looks so nice when playing. Kill the PSP, focus on Vita. Tablets are a different/non-argument.
I think what Sony needs to take away from this is that little kids don't know the difference between a PSP and a Vita. Or maybe haven't heard of the Vita at all. Kids want what other kids have and obviously their friends still have PSPs. Fix that, Sony.
iPad and Vita are two completely different devices on different markets. You want a tablet? Get a Nexus 7 or Surface Pro. You want a portable gaming device? You get a 3DS or a PSP/V.
WOW, I can't believe people actually put stock into polls
I always wonder about these polls since im in NA and never came across this particular poll. Granted im older than this target age group. But im certainly in the right interest group yet i have never come across any of the video game polls that i read about. And as for the results, kids want what they see, iv hardly seen vita commercials but see alot of ipad commercials.
