See you next year

Those of you secretly hoping you’d be playing The Last of Us this year are going to be disappointed: Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, has revealed that the game’s not set to release until 2013.

The likable executive told VG247:

We are not ready to talk about 2013. But some of the games we showed like God of War: Ascension and The Last of Us are not coming out this year.

We will talk more about what our line-up of games will be like in 2013. PS Vita we just launched. It’s been just four months.

It’s its second year next year; it’s a really crucial year for us so we will continue to invest in making games from our first party studio standpoint, and at the same time, we would like to see more publishers do games like Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation; that is fantastic.

It’s obviously reassuring to learn Sony’s attention is on the Vita, but it does leave PlayStation 3 without a big tent-pole release this Christmas. We suspect PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is going to attempt to fill that void, but it would have been nice to see one of the PS3’s big new core games drop before the end of the year too.
