Elden Ring: Best Ashes of War and How to Get Them
On this page, we're going to detail the best Ashes of War and how to get them. We'll include a walkthrough to acquiring the Ashes of War and reveal what makes it so good.
Bloody Slash Location: Dropped by a Beast Crest Heater Knight along the castle walls of Fort Haight. You will probably head to this location when trying to figure out how to complete Kenneth Haight's quest. If not, it is found in the southeastern corner of Limgrave.
The Ashes of War known as the Bloody Slash is regarded as one of the best in the game thanks to its knack for procing Bleed damage at a rapid pace in accordance with your general swipes. Once triggered, Bleed damage takes out huge chunks of HP at a time. It can be used to kill many bosses, especially humanoids that are weak to the effect.
The only downside is that as well as using up a small bit of FP to use, it'll also damage you slightly upon activation. You don't lose too much HP, however. Obtainable early on in the game, it's an Ashes of War you could stick with for your entire playthrough.
Hoarfrost Stomp Location: In the small pool of water just southeast of the Caria Manor is an invisible Teardrop Scarab. Position yourself so the enemy is walking towards you — use its visible footsteps to work this out — and attack it at the right time. It will then drop the Ashes of War called Hoarfrost Stomp.
The Hoarfrost Stomp is the perfect match for any builds designed around Frostbite damage, as it sends out shards of ice in your immediate vicinity, dealing damage as it goes. Along with Bloody Slash, it too is considered one of the best Ashes of War in the game. While it was nerfed recently through a patch, the Hoarfrost Stomp is still one of the go-to special attacks.
It uses up a fair chunk of your FP bar, though, so make sure you have some Flasks on hand to refill it. Since the Ashes of War is acquired in the Liurnia of the Lakes, you'll have to progress a bit before having the chance to pick it up.
Storm Blade Location: This Ashes of War is sold by Knight Bernahl at the Warmaster's Shack in Limgrave. As you're approaching Stormveil Castle, it'll be due east of Stormhill Shack. You'll need 1,800 Runes to buy it.
Storm Blade is a fantastic option for sword users in the early game. You can acquire it really quickly and on the cheap, at just 1,800 Runes. This Ashes of War launches spirals of wind in front of you after a quick charge up time. Due to its range, it is particularly useful for chipping away at an enemy's health at a distance — particularly during boss fights. As an early game pickup, you can't do much better than Storm Blade.
