@Ralizah I’d recommend FES for the male route, followed by Portable for the female route. There’s no definitive version so that way you’d at least see both experiences. I’m gonna do that myself after I finish Innocent Sin for the umpteenth time.
I've been playing a lot on my Vita lately and it's got me thinking that even though the Switch is a more impressive hardware, the Vita just has a lot of things that appeal to me more. For starters, its small size makes it perfect for handheld play while the Switch can feel a bit clunky to hold for long duration. The main appeal of the Switch is that you're able to play both on the TV and on the go, but with Remote Play, you can do that with a PS4/Vita as well. Granted, the controls won't always translate well to the Vita and the streaming quality may differ, but from my recent experience of it, it's pretty good.
When it comes to games though, the Switch easily has the better library overall. Vita is home to my favourite games of all time, but there are sadly not as many great games on there compared to the Switch. I mean, just imagine if the Vita was getting titles such as Persona 5 Strikers, Trials of Mana, Bravely Default II and so on today. It would make it a much more appealing system. One thing that makes it better than Switch though is that you're able to play PS1 and PSP games on it. Nintendo has NES, SNES and N64 titles but those can only be accessed through a subscription service. At least you're able to choose which games you want to get on Vita and there are a lot of great titles.
It's just so fascinating to me that a handheld system like the Vita, which is closing in on 10 years now, is still relevant and appealing to use today. That just goes to show how far ahead of its time it was. While I have plenty of games to play on the Vita, it's still inevitable that I'll stop using it in the near future because it hasn't been getting any noteworthy games for a long time now. That's why I'm glad the Switch exists because it's an excellent system and a worthy "successor" to the Vita due to it offering the same kinds of games that I'd expect on Vita (JRPGs, indies, visual novels and so on). I honestly can't say which one I like more, both are such phenomenal devices and I'm happy to own them both.
@RogerRoger If you think Picross is boring, then you need to play the harder puzzles. 5x5 and 10x10 are easy, it's when you get to 15x15 and 20x15 that the game becomes interesting. It's genuinely one of the most addicting puzzle games I've ever played.
@RogerRoger Well, they aren’t ports. They’re emulation therefore I genuinely cannot see how in the world they could screw up Sonic 2. I tried it a bit there (first 3 zones) to see and the physics glitches didn’t happen at all but I did feel like the ring sound effect didn’t always play when I grabbed them. That could be an emulation issue but it’s bizarre that there seemingly weren’t any testers raising that issue. I can understand issues with the N64 app because the N64 is a bloody nightmare to emulate at the best of times but the Mega Drive has been emulated successfully for years and years now.
@RogerRoger Ah I see. How about an 'Ace Attorney'-like visual novel with Picross puzzles then? It's called Murder By Numbers, so maybe that one will appeal to you more.
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy "Other methods" for sure, since I don't own a PS3 (and, at this point, probably never will). Although I'll absolutely purchase the games physically should Atlus ever decide to reprint them.
I haven't checked lately, but until at least a few years ago, Atlus did an amazing job of keeping most of their PS2 MegaTens in the $20 price range, including P3 FES. Hopefully they decide to reprint their rare 3DS titles someday as well for people who come along later and want to build a collection, like I did with the PS2 games.
Still undecided, but if I happen to want to do multiple playthroughs, I'll probably go with the route suggested by @nessisonett : FES + the answer for guy, and then P3P for femMC. That sounds like an insane amount of content, though, so I might just play guy route in P3P and call it a day anyway.
It's hard to imagine some overpriced PS1 ports sold particularly well, even if I have a soft spot the size of Jupiter for the Monster Rancher games. We'll see.
Currently Playing: Resident Evil Village: Gold Edition
I know the N64 emulation is considered bad but it's got nothing on Jak and Daxter running on my PS5. How an upscaled emulation of a PS2 game is practically stuttering baffles the mind 🤣
Anyway, my poor Switch is almost at full Pokedex completion in Pearl and I need to keep speedrunning Metroid. So it's getting some usage going forward.
I'll probably skip Legends Arceus, and then...backlog I guess? Nearly 200 Switch games will do that to a person.
Or I start using my PS5 more. Barely touched it since Ratchet. Or that new Xbox Series S I got.
Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations
Now Streaming: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
@Bentleyma- I loved the first Luigi’s Mansion on the Cube even though the box alone used to freak me out when I was a kid. The 2nd one’s format just didn’t feel the same though, I didn’t like it at all. I much prefer the Resident Evil format of the original and I’ve heard the 3rd game is more like Dark Moon unfortunately.
Think I'm getting close to finishing out SMTV. I'm currently in the 4th area, have defeated all 3 bosses holding keys, collected all Miman, and I think destroyed all the abscesses.
Currently working on clearing any excess side quests before I move on, and I think I've finally cleared them all, except for the Shiva fight which I don't plan to do, though it seems like one or two keep popping up here or there, so I'm not going to discount another showing up.
At least I just hit level 80.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
I know this isn't Switch related but I've been playing Mario Kart DS on the Wii U Virtual Console on a 55inch OLED screen and it is absolutely glorious (albeit quite pixelated 😁😅)
Just so awesome to see DS games on such a ridiculously OP TV screen.
As amazing as it is, it still makes me yearn for a better solution. One where I either don't have to use the game pad or could at least remap the controls (L+R are hard to reach when mainly using the D-Pad and face buttons)
Also one where I have full control over how and where each screen is displayed. It's great for Mario Kart DS but id really like more/better options so I can play other games. I've got the two Zeldas and eventually I will end up playing them with the "touch screen focus" display option but I still wish I could have more control over it. Like having touch screen only displayed on TV, having different display options be mappable to unused buttons (switch between top and bottom screen focus with a button instead of a menu, or even swap between a focus option and having both screens displayed vertically at once with a button instead of a menu - for dual screen cut scenes between gameplay)
Oh well, I'll make do with what's available to me at least.
One other thing and it's a total pipe dream... But I still wish for something akin to a game boy player/super game boy. Just an all in one solution that will play any Nintendo game from any console (but especially the DS) on the TV instead. Some sort of mythical Wii U add on seems like a no brainer because of the game pad.
Anyway, on topic to the Switch... It's 2022 and I'm still waiting for a restock on those N64 pads. I check the page multiple times a day but still no dice. I've just modified a cabinet so it can be my charging cabinet for loads of controllers/DSs and I really want to add the N64 pads to it!
@ralphdibny I've also been playing several DS games on Wii U the past year and yeah, it would've been nice to have more options for the TV like being able to display touch screen only but ultimately, I'm happy with what we have right now. This is the only way to buy digital DS games, which makes the Wii U very special. I'm still playing Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time on and off and it's been wonderful playing it on the gamepad. That game definitely works the best with a touch screen focus display since the gameplay mostly takes place on the touch screen while a map is displayed on top screen and there's no touch interactivity at all.
On the other hand, I played through Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia and when it comes to DS games that primarily use touch screen controls, it's better to use the vertical layout display instead. You hold the gamepad vertically and because there's a handle on the back, you can easily hold the gamepad while using your other hand to control the game with the stylus. So I recommend doing that when you play the Zelda games because it would feel too straining on your arm if you hold the gamepad horizontally with one hand only. I also highly recommend checking out the Pokémon Ranger games if you haven't already, they are very fun games. You catch Pokémon by continuously drawing circles around them and it's such a simple yet addicting gameplay mechanic. The Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games are also great if you're looking for a good story with fun dungeon crawling.
@LtSarge ahh no it's cool, I'd lean the gamepad on my lap for sure. That will alleviate arm strain. The main draw is having the action take place on the big screen! I'm pretty sure there's a little fairy that appears when you move with the stylus in Zelda too so I wouldn't have to look at the gamepad too much while playing.
I'd do the vertical layout if I was playing on my monitor as I can orient it portrait but I don't really fancy doing that with a £1000 55 inch TV 😅 (doesn't mean i haven't looked it up to see if it's possible lol)
