@nessisonett I'd buy a Paper Zelda in a minute. ALBW already demonstrated at least one fun, paper-esque mechanic that could be used when navigating dungeons. I really liked the "curses" in TTYD. It's easy to see how something like that could be integrated into Zelda's Metroidvanian formula.

Do any of you have a switch lite, if so what are they like? Also, what's the deal with Playing Snes games, you need the subscription I think? Do they work well.

Thanks.

@phil_j NES and SNES games are tied to your subscription, the emulators are pretty barebones and the selection is missing a whole lot of great games due to licensing but it’s better than nothing, I guess.

@phil_j I own a Switch Lite.

It's a smaller, much lighter, handheld only Switch with a proper D-Pad. I think it's more comfortable to take out and about than my normal Switch.

It's important to keep in mind that it's also missing the HD rumble feature found in the Nintendo Switch joycons, although that doesn't really detract from most games for me.

As @nessisonett said, access to the SNES games are tied to the subscription. The emulation is pretty much perfect. It's a great way to play those games. Just keep in mind that the selection is only updated a few times per year, and a lot of the additions are to the NES library.

@RogerRoger Glad to hear you're enjoying the game. How is the development of the island going overall?

Ordered Paper Mario: the Origami King. Put the order in just a day too late so it'll get here Sunday instead of Saturday, but hopefully I'll get some game play in before the weekend's out.

@RogerRoger I'm thinking about kind of breaking down my post-terraforming island. Things always get soulless in Animal Crossing after you optimize the island for maximum efficiency, IMO. I have 25 million or so bells in the bank, an expansive fruit tree farm that takes up 40%+ of the island, and pathways laid out everywhere so I know exactly where to go, and I... just haven't wanted to revisit my island in weeks. Part of the magic, I think, is in the messiness and chaos of the experience. Now my character is a bored rich person.

@Arugula What's wrong with the screen on the Switch Lite? Other than being smaller, it seems identical to the screen in my big Switch.

@RR529 I'm approaching the end of the game now, and have really enjoyed my time with it.

@Ralizah Now’s the time to pave over the island, industrial revolution style. I did that in New Leaf and turned myself into a benevolent dictator figure in a concrete paradise. Who needs trees anyway?

@nessisonett lol You're missing out on fruit and large insects if you remove all of your trees. Also, you should have the pine-looking trees around the holidays.

I think I'm going to add more trees, actually. And bushes. I think I'm going to start re-naturing the place. Adding more fishing spots, etc.

@Arugula Considering how primed people are to notice differences in screen quality in handhelds, I'm inclined to think we would have heard about this if it was a widespread problem in terms of Lites having "worse" screens. LCD screens from different manufacturers can have different color gradients.

At least the Switch doesn't have to suffer through the IPS vs TN screen debacle.

Octane

With the announcement that a Pikmin 3 port is coming late October, I don't think we're getting a Direct anytime soon. I guess this is it for the remainder of the year.

It's probably a full €60 title; pretty much an insult since even games like Shadow of the Colossus (2018) and Ratchet & Clank (2016) were only €40. But hey, hopefully this means Pikmin 4 is coming next year.

Octane

nessisonett

@Octane It’s as if Nintendo are writing this ‘it’s all ports’ narrative themselves. Don’t get me wrong, Pikmin 3 is a great game but like, I played it already years ago. If it’s a full price game, there’s no chance I’m buying it again also because it worked so well with the GamePad and I don’t see the controls being quite as good.

Not for me, but almost nobody bought a Wii U, so it's going to be a new game for the vast, vast majority of the Switch's playerbase.

Anyway, I'm now unrealistically hopeful about the chances of getting Pikmin 4 next year.

@Ralizah I actually think this lowers the chance of Pikmin 4 being any time soon. Everyone just assumed the Pikmin game rumoured to be in the works for a while now was a 4th entry but this port could be the game that was being worked on all that time.

@nessisonett To add injury to insult, they apparently delisted the Wii U version of Pikmin 3 on the eShop. Which was only $20 mind you. They'll probably use that as an argument to sell it for $60, since you can't get it cheaper elsewhere anymore.

People complain about the bare bones offerings from Sony regarding PS1/2/3 games compared to Microsoft's ''BC programme'', and I agree with them. But Nintendo removes old games from digital stores so they can sell it again for full price.

TheFrenchiestFry

@Ralizah Honestly Pikmin 3 Deluxe's existence drastically lowers the chances that a new game is coming anytime soon. It seems that in lieu of new installments Nintendo just releases deluxe versions at full price to compensate for the fact that at that time they aren't developing anything new.

@Octane Yeah as much ***** as I give the PS4's barebones BC program for PS1/2 classics, it is leaps and bounds ahead of stuff like Nintendo re-releasing Tropical Freeze with barebones additions for full price, and going out of their way to scrub the pre-existing versions off the face of the Earth just so players are swayed into buying their """"deluxe"""" versions.

@Octane Oof, I saw you mention that on NLife but that is seriously scummy. I mean, what were they afraid of? That people would suddenly own a Wii U and buy the game cheaper? I love my Wii U but barely anybody had one, Nintendo aren’t going to suddenly make less money off the Switch ports if the Wii U versions are cheaper.

@nessisonett @TheFrenchiestFry Nah, they explicitly said Pikmin 4 was a thing. And Pikmin 3 Deluxe is not a title that's going to sell in perpetuity like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. More than likely, they want to be able to milk Pikmin 3 again to a new audience before releasing the fourth game next year.

It's a lazy effort, though. A Pikmin collection would have been awesome, but this is literally just one of the Wii U's earlier titles.

@Ralizah Honestly after Super Mario 128 being "more than a tech demo" and Fire Emblem 64 I've learned not to take Miyamoto at face value but that's just me

Ralizah

@TheFrenchiestFry It probably helps that my assumption has always been that Nintendo would release Pikmin 3 on Switch half a year to a year before the fourth game. Sort of like they'll undoubtedly be milking Metroid Prime Trilogy again on Switch leading up to the release of Metroid Prime 4.

Although now I'm fairly certain the Wii U downloadable version of MP Trilogy that's $19.99 will be delisted at some point.

@Ralizah I wonder if they’d have to spend more time on Metroid Prime Trilogy because of control issues? The Wii already had the New Play Control versions before the collection but it remains to be seen whether a Switch version would have an option for original controls in 1 & 2 or just attempt to recreate the pointer controls with the gyro.
