Alisa: Developer's cut being a PS1 style survival horror game.
And yes... They really committed to the look, style and feel to it.
Tank Controls (Though for some reason there's no d-pad support on PS5/4)
Pre-rendered backgrounds.
Intentionally stilted voice acting.
A 4:3 aspect ratio.
Doubly impressive when it was mostly a one man development team with his wife helping with the music (And she also voiced Alisa too).
I see what you did here Casper Croes!
Took me about 9 hours it said by the ingame timer but I could EASILY do it in 3 now I know what to do (Unsure if I could get the speedrunning trophy for under 2 hours though).
I really liked the mechanic regarding outfits and that each one gives you some notable effect.
Like the Military Police Outfit giving Alisa a faster reload speed (And it is notable!) or the nurse outfit increasing your medkits to a 75% instead of 50%. All of them also having various Defense buffs too.
... I honestly might go through it again on new game plus to get the other endings! I had such a blast with it. Well worth the asking £15 price (Or £11 as I paid for it in it's current sale)
@GirlVersusGame They also did a Terminator game. I've not played it, but have heard slightly more mixed response to that game. But Robocop is great, perfect length too, did not drag on I thought.
Just finished the Iki Island DLC of Ghost of Tsushima, which took me around 12 hours. It was absolutely phenomenal and I'm glad that I played it after having finished the base game. It rounds off the overall story very well. In fact, it felt like a perfect extension of the base game rather than simply extra content. You absolutely have to play it if you want the complete experience of Sakai Jin's story. He's become one of my favourite PlayStation characters.
Really gonna miss playing this game now that it's over.
@LtSarge I’ll have to try out the expansion. I have the platinum (twice, actually), but it’s hard for me to get into DLC when it releases a year or two after the base game. I forget the story, and somewhat lose interest: I’ll replay the entire game before Yotei comes out and play it then.
@Kraven I agree with that, especially in this case. The DLC has a lot of references to the main story and if you haven't played it recently, then you won't remember most of them, which will negatively impact your experience. So I think it's an excellent idea to play through the entire game again and then the DLC. This is one of the few games I can actually consider replaying in the future.
I've stopped buying new releases but I might get Yotei as I love this IP now. Gonna be interesting to see what the game will be like now that the setting is 16th-17th century.
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow for the Nth time BUT this time on the Dominus Collection. I thought that the seal drawing with the buttons will be awkward, but it was surprisingly comfortable
I've just rolled the credits on Atomfall. Really enjoyable game and I had a genuine blast with it! Some of the dialogue was hilarious and a lot of the outdoor sandbox scenery is very beautiful. Although the gunplay was decent enough, I opted for the more stealthy approach with the bow and arrows - when I didn't run out of arrows, that is, then I'd have to improvise given how scarce resources can be.
It's well worth playing if you've got your eye on it.
@Kairuuu Did you play it on Xbox? I just got a month of Game Pass as I really wanted to check out South of Midnight (and also the upcoming Clair Obscur) but I've also had my eyes on Atomfall, which is also on there, so I might give it a go. It sounds like a cool game.
@LtSarge Played on PS5. Not entirely sure if there are any issues or differences with performance or anything on the Xbox version of the game. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re able to play it on Gamepass.
I rolled credits on Marvel Midnight Suns a week or so ago and finished the last DLC mission yesterday. I'll keep it installed and pick up the NG+ I started every now and then to work towards the final trophy that will give me the plat (getting 200 dark points). I loved this game so much, and I hate that it was a big flop, as the chances of getting a sequel are effectively zero Best use of the Marvel IP outside the comics, IMO (and I include the MCU in that). Perfect marriage of material and mechanics.
Now I've started The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, which will, of course, lead into Life Is Strange 2. Been meaning to keep up with the series after loving the first and its prequel, but, you know... so many games, etc.
@FuriousMachine I was pleasantly surprised by Midnight Suns also, but never actually finished it. It’s a really long game, especially if you want to spend the extra effort doing side content. Perhaps I’ll go back and finish it one day.
As a fan of the Life is Strange series I’m glad you’re taking the time to play the Captain Spirit preview ‘demo’ before playing the core game. Although not essential, I believe it really enhances and adds to the experience. Don’t get too discouraged by Capt Spirit though, because it’s actually slightly boring and I had to push my way through the end, even though it’s only a couple hours long. These games live or die by their story and character development, so since Capt Spirit doesn’t have much direction, it feels like aimless drudgery after a while. But don’t give up, just push through it and then once you start the full game I reckon you’ll be much more interested. I was worried that the full game would be boring after playing the Capt Spirit preview but I was quickly hooked on the story once I started LiS2.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Th3solution No problems with the young Captain Spirit, I enjoyed playing with the young lad and his team of superheroes. I didn't manage to complete all his important tasks as I mistakenly woke dad in the hopes that he'd help unlock his phone and that was the end of it. The father is an example of why I love these games: he embodies a level of complexity of character you rarely see in media today and fuels a lot of conflicting emotions.
I've managed to get the brothers to their first camping site sleepover and the story and characters has me interested so far, but I hope (and assume) that some sort of game mechanic will be introduced (ala Max's time-rewind) to make the gameplay a bit more interesting.
