Just finished The Gunk on Xbox One after 6 hours of playtime. What a great game! I've been looking forward to playing it all year and it was definitely worth the wait. This is basically a 3D platformer with puzzle elements and a vacuum mechanic (like in Luigi's Mansion) where you go around sucking up gunk in order to clean areas. It's a fun gameplay loop but sadly the game doesn't really introduce many new mechanics throughout the story. Thankfully though, it doesn't overstay its welcome and is fairly short. So if you're looking for an indie game 3D platformer that's around 5 hours long, then you're definitely going to like The Gunk. Not to mention that it was made by the SteamWorld Dig developer and I absolutely love those games, so I highly recommend checking out this one!

Finished up Deathloop. The ending is very very unsatisfactory but in a way I can appreciate that. Real life is never as wonderful as what would happen inside the loop. It was bloody brilliant from start to finish though, it’s just a genuinely new and unique spin on immersive sims. I really hope more games take notes on the way the plot and gameplay influence each other and it plays with information that the player finds out themselves. The voice acting and writing is really great too, the visionaries are particularly well acted but Colt and Julianna’s little conversations at the start of each period are brilliant and funny, while I don’t think I heard a single one twice.

Just finished Hotline Miami 2 on Vita. This is easily one of the most fun indie games I've ever experienced. I can't believe it took me so many years to finally play it. I guess the talk about it having longer levels than the first game's was what discouraged me. Not all levels are that long though and I view the long ones as just 2-3 levels in one. After all, does it really matter if you spend 30 minutes on one level or 30 minutes on three levels? I definitely noticed though that the game was much harder than the first one, which I didn't mind either. In fact, the increased difficulty has encouraged me to play even more challenging games because it's so gratifying once you succeed. Moreover, the music was just exceptional. Each level had its own track and they all fit the situation. For instance, this is my favourite level in the game along with my favourite track and it's so fitting:

The beat drops just at the right moment, it's so good! I remember thinking that I was going to stop playing for the night but once this song kicked in, I played for another hour lol.

If you're looking for something new and fun to play on Vita, then I highly recommend playing this game (and also the first one). It's easily one of the best indie games I've ever played.

Just finished Lake on Xbox One. What a wonderful game! I definitely did not expect it to turn out to be as fun and interesting as I thought. It's like a game that grows on you over time because you're meeting all these people, you hang out with them, form relationships and it's just great fun. Luckily, the game was fairly short (around six hours long) so the gameplay of delivering mail didn't become boring and it was quite relaxing. I had such a great time with this game and it's one of the biggest surprises for me this year. I'm going to miss playing it but I'm definitely going to miss the protagonist the most, who I absolutely adored playing as. Really hope they'll release a sequel.

Anyway, fantastic game and if you get a chance to play it, then I highly recommend checking it out!

Hi there fellow gamers, been awhile.
So I actualy beat Deathloop on December 31st and got one of the endings that I personaly liked the most of the other two. Arkane Studios once again delivered a game with a unique twist on how to advance the game, but kept what they know best. Sandbox gameplay with a phenomenal level design that allows the players to tackle each location however they choose. As I am playing for the rest of the trophies and unique weapons, I´m still finding new secrets and different ways to achieve different objectives. Also, the different builds you can make with the character and weapon Trinkets as well as the Slabs(Powers) and upgrades and the replay value increases exponentially.
I want to do a new game + on Ghost of Tsushima on PS5, but I just can´t stop doing another loop 😜
Really good game and another great 2021 goty contender.
Cheers, stay safe, stay well everybody and Happy New Year to us all

@RogerRoger Hey there friend.
Congrats on beating Syphon Filter 2.
Also yes, the Final Boss is ridiculous, but also kinda unique in the way you beat it. I remember thinking back then "how am I suposed to defeat this guy full of body armour?" And then I got the special shotgun and everything made sense.
Man Syphon Filter.... Now there´s a series that I really wished Bend Studios or any other Sony first party would bring back form hiatus. Especialy now when there is no stealth, spy action game. Maybe, right?
Cheers, stay safe and have a good one

Just finished Mirror's Edge and overall, I didn't like it. From beginning to end, the difficulty level stayed the same and I wasn't becoming better at it because there was no learning curve. I was just as bad at the start as I was at the end and I don't think that's the sign of a good game. Clearly this was made for people who enjoy replaying games and getting high scores, not for those who just want to enjoy a fun campaign. I'm just glad it was so short (about 4-5 hours) because I don't know how much more I could've stood playing it.

I do have to say though that I'm rather curious what the sequel is like. I've heard it's more open world and people didn't like that, but in theory it could make it better than the first one as long as it gives you more paths to take and they're more highlighted.

Imagine Detective NDS
Untitled

It was very short game, only 5 chapters and i finished the game in just 2.5 hours by accumulation.
I found the ending was quite disappointing as it was like a cliffhanger of the real situation (it mentioned to be continued but never got the sequel).
Oh, well...

We finished up Sherlock Holmes Chapter One today and the ending was really genuinely great. All a bit depressing but a fitting end for the story and an interesting way to set up a new series. A fantastic game with irritating frame rate issues being the only thing holding it back. At least if you skip the woeful combat which is an option.

@RogerRoger I feel like a lot of people didn't get on with a lot of PS4 games that had performance issues initially and moved on. I was recently talking to some people here about The Evil Within, which I played through in October and absolutely loved, and they said the same thing you did, i.e. they didn't like it due to the performance issues at launch. So who knows, maybe I'll like it now, assuming that it's been patched since then.

After a long weekend of qt with the missus (not gaming) I’ve just finished the Survivor playthrough of Rise of the Tomb Raider. Personally, I’m always a ‘little’ anxious about trophy lists that require difficulty-specific runs… but it was a nice standard tbh.

Still have a fair bit of grinding left for the plat (finish off collectibles, score attack etc) but comfortable in saying that’s it’s an absolutely great game. I won’t be playing the third instalment in the trilogy for a while yet (about a year or so) but I’ll definitely be looking forward to it that’s for sure.

@Kidfried yeah will do 👍… because you have things left to do on it, or you just really enjoy it?

@Kidfried ah, I got ya… we’ll from what I gather from @RogerRoger it’s probably the best in the trilogy, so we’re both in for a treat.

@colonelkilgore But should you trust @RogerRoger? Maybe he's wrong...

Rise is actually my favorite of the trilogy, but I do want to give Shadow a second chance at some point this year. It likely won't be anytime soon with Horizon Forbidden West coming next month and me having some other games to play first afterwards, but sometime this year for sure.

@KilloWertz ouch! I’m filled with an altogether new (& slightly unnerving) feeling… Rog-doubt 🤣.

@colonelkilgore 🤣

Ok, I guess he's "right" much more than he's "wrong" though.

@RogerRoger I’ll keep that in mind.

Also, as a fellow, load and proud contrarian… any thoughts on the potential heinous act of starting the Yakuza series with Kiwami rather than Zero? 😉

temet nosce

psmr

@RogerRoger well regardless of your involvement with the series (or lack thereof), I appreciate your input. Your thoughts echo my own actually… the only ‘wrinkle’ is that while Kiwame is a remake of the original, apparently some content has been added that relates to the events of Zero. Well, there’s only one way to find out 😎
