@nessisonett Which of the more recent AC games have you played? How do you feel the Ezio games hold up against the current ones?

@Th3solution I’ve played the first roughly 5 hours of Black Flag and about 80% of Origins. Honestly, AC2 is one of the best games I’ve played in years and I definitely feel it holds up alongside the new style of game, partly because it does things differently. It also has a much more focused map, while still being large. Brotherhood was good but I do think I would have enjoyed it more had I waited a whole year like I would have done on release, as it is a bit of a retread. Black Flag is a game I just couldn’t get into but I honestly think that because I’ve gotten used to the somewhat strange combat in the AC games, I’ll get on a lot better with it this time.

I finished Persona 5 Royal a couple of days ago, with the true ending. After the 107 hours I spent with the game it's easily the longest I've ever played and has been a big part of the last couple of months. Everything about the experience was great, the characters and their interactions, the music, the combat. The only slightly weak point I think was the additional story content for Royal. I really like what they tried to do, and the new characters are just as good as any of the others, but I think it just all felt a bit anti-climactic after the epic fight which precedes it. Regardless, Royal is very much the version to play.

It's been some time since I've felt so sad for a game to draw to a close. Certainly rivals finishing Xenoblade 2. Now I'm kind of struggling to decide what to play next. I've got a few options. 3D All Stars, Trails of Cold Steel 1, Tales of Berseria, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable are potential options. And of course, on the side there will be Persona 5 Dancing in Starlight.

@mcdreamer Persona 5 Dancing was pretty good tbh, I’m a huge rhythm game fan so it was all I could ask for and the remixes were mostly great with few exceptions. It’s got a very achievable platinum too!

Persona 4 Golden Hands down. A must play game. I too loved Persona 5 Dancing all night, an amazing game!

The PSVR is the best VR system on the market today.

Beat Metro Last Light there. Unfortunately got the standard ending which is completely non-canon so I’ll check out the good ending on YouTube.

@nessisonett I've been enjoying P5D so far. I've unlocked most of the tracks on easy and played a few on normal. Still haven't got my timing quite right but the game is certainly fun! Enjoying most of the remixes too and still have the social link side to dig into.

@PSVR_lover I have a save about 10 hours into P4G so that would be the best choice really. I played a few battles in the second "palace" after beating P5R. It's interesting to see how much more streamlined the battle menus are in P5R (not that they're particularly bad in P4, just more button presses to access things). That kind of makes me think playing P3P first would be a good idea, as I imagine P4 is also a step on from P3 in terms of quality of life features.

@nessisonett You gonna start Metro Exodus soon?

@JohnnyShoulder It’s got 50 something days left on PS Now so yeah, I’ll start it after I play MediEvil. I think it might be on Game Pass as well but I’d rather play them all on the same console.

That’s me finished MediEvil with every chalice, now onto the Lost Souls and polishing off a few more trophies for the platinum!

@Kidfried I thought it was a lot better than I had heard to be honest. Combat was hilariously imprecise but I was hardly expecting Dark Souls. It really shined in terms of atmosphere and the soundtrack was great too. It was like a style of game you don’t really get anymore and I appreciated that, a bit like Ratchet & Clank PS4. And yes, I only had like 3 levels left so just pushed onwards till pretty late so hooray for asynchronous uni learning 😂😂

@nessisonett This very site has a good guide for the Lost Souls if you need one. It was the best I found as it ordered them so you only have to replay levels once (complete a challenge and find the next one) rather than playing levels twice through again.

A very do-able platinum and a fun reward for finding all the Souls

Finished The Outer Worlds last night. What a great game. So much heart, such well-written characters, so many hilarious dialogue options. A game that will live long in the memory.

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

It's not a game I'd recommend for anyone who has yet to play MGS1, as the tonal shift and atmosphere is completely different from the PS1 original, and in that regard it kinda stumbles as a REMAKE

However as a reimagining for those who have already played the original and view it as supplementary material, it's a freaking blast, if a bit more on the easy side given MGS2's mechanics within MGS1's environments really snap some of the boss fights in half, especially Revolver Ocelot, and there's only so much I can be immersed in the game's story when Liquid Snake starts randomly doing backflips while discussing the genetic bond between him and Solid Snake. Although I do really like Rob Paulsen in the role of Gray Fox and am happy he got to reprise the role in Smash Bros. Brawl & Ultimate as an Assist Trophy.

Another mechanic I really welcomed was that enemies no longer dissipate into thin air when you kill or incapcitate them and you actually have to go through the effort of hiding the bodies to avoid raising suspicion from other Geonome soldiers around Shadow Moses scouting the area you're currently at. Some intercom announcers might even tell the enemies to raise their security levels and act more dilligently if they sense a solider hasn't responded to their requests to relocate to another area or meet up with them, and it definitely adds a level of intensity that just wasn't there in the original game.

It's a shame Nintendo fans missed out on most of the content from the Solid era of the franchise seeing as how only Ghost Babel, MGS1 and MGS3 have ever made an appearance on that family of hardware (surprised MGS2 never got ported over given Snake in Smash is directly based on MGS2 Snake and it would've been as easy to do as Twin Snakes given they already had the mechanics in place), and that this game is still stranded on GameCube the same way MGS4 is on the PS3, but Twin Snakes as both a collaborative effort between Nintendo and Konami, as well as a reimagining of what I consider to be one of the very best games on the PS1 is still a really good game, even if I do prefer the original for its harder difficulty and more down to Earth tone, cursed raven shamans and nanomachines not withstanding.

A solid 8/10 game. Definitely a highlight in terms of GameCube exclusives

@TheFrenchiestFry Yeah, Silicon Knights were truly talented but seemed to have been done in by the business side of things. We can only dream about an Eternal Darkness sequel.

@nessisonett Eternal Darkness utilizing the Switch's HD Rumble could open up so many possibilities as to how they can break the fourth wall even further

@Gremio108 Totally agree about The Outer Worlds. I really had a blast with it earlier this year. Glad to see you liked it too. It's a shame I'll probably never get to play Peril on Gorgon because I don't think I had a save before the final confrontation. Will you be playing the DLC? I've heard mostly good things. You'll have to let me know what you think if you do!

Thrillho

@Gremio108 @Tjuz I enjoyed it too but the ending felt like it suddenly came from nowhere. And that final boss is something of a step up from any other combat encounter you have.

The enemy and weapon types also felt a bit limited but for the most part that didn’t bother me too much.

But the writing was great and the companions were brilliant too. I especially liked the little comments made between your companions, rather than directly to you.

JohnnyShoulder

@Thrillho You can bypass the last boss by other means other than combat. I think I beat it every possible way by respecing at the ship, but yeah combat was definitely a step up in in difficulty with what came before. I think the whole last level was like that though, but again you can bypass most of the combat.

@Gremio108 Well done! The game possibly has the best writing and characters I've experienced this gen. Parvati was such a well written character.

@JohnnyShoulder Yeah, I replayed it with a 100 speech spec to basically wander merrily through the last area.
