Getting a vita for my birthday on 30th June and will have about £150 to blow on games. Not keen on spending over £30 on a new game unless it is FIFA or Unchartered which hopefully I will get with the console. Any good games (physical or downloadable) due out June/July or hidden, unknown gems around at the moment? Value for money would be a bonus...
If you're after value for money, check out Uncharted and Rayman on ebay, they need no network passes so really don't need to be new. Also, games that do need them, just see what you can get and add on the Network Pass cost to that. Shopto.net have Virtua Tennis for £16- which is nearly half the retail price anywhere else I've seen. it looks great, I haven't played the Vita version, but even the Xperia Play version is stunning- so . . .
Super Stardust Delta is well worth having for under £8, as is Motorstorm RC. You can probably pick up Ridge Racer on ebay for a little over that too, but with Criterion apparently working on a Vita game you may want to hold off on an arcade racer. WipEout 2048 is still probably the best £20 I spent on a new game (again, ebay)- I picked up Uncharted from CEX for £25, well worth that too.

Good advice that. Bit annoyed at having to pay for network passes but I suppose you save on it being 2nd hand anyway and might even knock it down a bit more to compensate. How much is an average network pass anyway? CEX deal on Unchartered sounds good - especially given it is one of the strongest titles at the moment. That Virtua Tennis deal is a huge saving!
Rayman is another good option - the kind of game I'd be willing to pick up for a bit more on Vita than for PS3 because of being ale to jump right in whenever I feel. I'm an JRPG fan so would be tempted by Persona if it's available. Don't want to sound like a numpty but does the Vita pause the game on standby when you close it down like you could midgame on the PSP?
If you're looking for bang for your buck, don't be so quick to dismiss the huge library of PSP games. Most of the good ones range from $10-$15. In particular, I'd recommend Ys Seven. It packs a huge amount of gameplay for the price of the Vita version of Plants Vs. Zombies. Can't go wrong.
About a Blob: Mutant Blob's Attack is also an amazing, albeit short, downloadable Vita game.

The network passes are £7.99. Steep, but watch ebay and you can get launch games fairly cheaply. If there's no pass listed on PSN then you don't need one for the online features. And the other other post is spot on, plenty of PSP games to choose from too.
The standby works the same yeah, but you can also drop back in to the home screen and do other stuff with your game suspended.

Ouch! I miss the good old days when use of the Playstation Network was free whether a good was second-hand or not! Doubtless it makes them money but it smarts a little bit when someone else has bought a copy of the game already - its not like there is additional demand on the network because of it, only one person can play the game. Glad it doesnt apply to all the games but can it becoming more common in future if people are prepared to pay for them (bit like F1 2011 on ps3). Think the Virtua Tennis career mode is good enough on its own without online, the AI in past games have been good and with sufficient challenge. I'd be tempted to get a PSP game for the £8 instead - hope Daxter and Gran Turismo are on PSN
I'll share my thoughts on it, @Mickeymac The levels are a bit on the short side, but there are like 6 endings. I love the art style and drawing parts of the game. It's easy to control, and easy to play.
Overall, I liked Sumioni but I've heard mixed feelings about it everywhere.
It's huge. I've put about 5 hours in so far. It really is a fantastic game. I didn't get to play much of the PS3/360 version but I'm given to understand this is the same game with a few vita bells & whistles thrown in. There are challenges upon challenges and plenty of content. Probably the most value for money Vita game I have, worth every penny!
If you've played the console counter part then you'll find the same game (with less detailed graphics, but still very pretty), if you've ever liked MK now is the time. I can't recommend it enough!
