@get2sammyb:

What about Podcast Beyond!?! The number one podcast for Playstation related news. (cringe)

Yes, on the positive side, Colin and Greg both have a wide amount of knowledge and connections........and tend to keep it Sony centric.

The new Podcast Beyond.......I reckon some forum members here could speak with more insight.

@sub12: I really wanted to give Beyond a chance after Colin and Greg left, but I couldn't get past three or four episodes with the new crew. I feel bad for them, but they simply didn't have any real passion for the platform and it showed.

I'd love to take a look at their metrics. I wonder how many people they've managed to hold on to. I bet downloads of the podcast have dropped by at least 50 per cent - potentially more.

I watch the kinda funny gamecast and ps xoxo.. I also sometimes watch angry joe's reviews and follow thegamersjoint for Kingdom Hearts news

I always listen to PS I love you XOXO in the car, just like I frequently listen to Nintendo Voicechat and Unlocked. Just like Sammy, Beyond doesn't do it for me anymore. It's not so much that I don't feel the love for PS, I can get over that, but with Greg and Colin you know who's going to be the funny one and who's going to be the more serious and cynical one. The problem isn't that WE don't know what the "roles" are at the new Beyond, THEY haven't established them yet themselves; they all try to be the funny one and the show isn't about PS anymore, but about who's the most witty of them all.

On YT I watch PS Acces, and although I like Rob's effort, he just isn't Ben Potter... But at least we get Rob every week (still 4 times Rob doesn't add up to 1 x Ben, doesn't work like that). Furthermore I watch Outside Xbox which is really enjoyable, not in the least because of that gorgeous host Andy. And sometimes I just look at wherever YT brings me: I watch an embedded "Did you know" bit and then I get lured in by the interwebz... Somehow I always end up watching Irish travellers fight though for some reason... Why would YT do such a thing?

Obviously the official channels of the big 3 are a must, after that, pretty much any major website that has a youtube channel, I subscribe to. So, IGN, Gamespot, Giantbomb, Dualshockers, Gametrailers, etc... There's also upupdowndown and kindafunny games.

The only podcasts I listen to consistently are PS I Love You XOXO and Podcast Unlocked. Obviously Colin and Greg have a passion for PlayStation like few others and that gives the show credibility, Colin will also be very critical when needed (Greg is a bit more of a shill but he does bring some comic relief that Colin doesn't provide). Ryan McCaffrey has as much a passion for Xbox as those two do for PlayStation and again, it makes Unlocked a good listen. Beyond has unfortunately gone completely downhill to the point where it as well be cancelled now.

@Gamer83:

Unlocked, Nintendo Voice Chat, and Game Scoop are all decent to good........it's only Beyond that's the outcast. Lots of problems really,........too many people involved for one podcast (3 at most).......too many people trying to throw around bad jokes........the show doesn't have enough of an outline and lacks focus........the passion and knowledge for Playstation isn't there.

@get2sammyb: I think a successful channel mixes up the three, as with Kinda Funny or PlayStation Access. I think involving the community is also something to consider - I'm sure you've watched a few of PS Access' Access Granted videos. They're chock full of comments and suggestions from their viewers, and I think that connection between the presenters and the viewers goes a long way.

@get2sammyb: Honestly I like a combination of the three. Take something like The Angry Video Game Nerd for example, his episodes offer a bit of humor, some opinion and insight as well, it all depends on the presentation. Someone like Happy Console Gamer offers a bit more insight then the other two While Pat the NES Punk offers humor and insight.

Although chose 3 channels offer a good combination of all three some episodes are more insightful then others while some are more humorous.

As far as opinions go, as long as the person is not trying to pass it off as fact that's ok for me.

I only follow AngryJoe and Kindafunny, that's it.

I also llike a combination of the three (humor, opinion, insight) as well.

I usually go to Youtube for humour and printed sources (or whatever you call online sites; typed sources maybe?) for my insight. So if I'm looking for insight I'd visit PushSquare or Eurogamer but I watch PS Access or Outside Xbox for comedy

@get2sammyb: For me, I use youtube for factual information primarily. The only 'opinion' I watch is for game reviews and sometimes these do mix a bit of humour in - like the Angry Joe show reviews. However he also justifies his review with fact. The majority of the channels I watch with any regularity are purely informational - whether that's specific stats of weapons in FPS games, where to find collectibles, how to earn achievements/trophies or just information/game play about up-coming releases that I have a bit of interest in. I don't watch podcasts, lets play, vlogs, discussions etc and I certainly don't tolerate idiots (or those that pretend to be).

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

I mostly go to youtube for entertainment purposes. If I don't care about reviews on websites, why would I care about reviews on youtube? I know that sounds contradictory, but I generally don't take reviews to heart when it comes to what games to buy. That said, while I admit I watch reviews more for entertainment, I'd rather they get their facts right. So being informative, regardless of entertainment value, is crucial to a review. Plus, I do like to know what some people think about some games.

So, in short, all three. When it comes to game reviews, anyway. It's why I recommended SomecallmeJohnny at the start of the thread, as I feel he hits the right notes (Though admittedly, I am slightly disappointed at his latest Metal Gear reviews, because it feels like he's not going into as much detail as he usually does).

I mostly go to YouTube for trivia/facts (top 5s/10s, DYKG?, Culture Shock, etc.).

Not sure what Death Battle counts as, but I like that as well.

Sad to hear that GameTrailers is closing down. They were one of my favourite channels on YouTube..
