@lolwhatno It’s not rejecting reality at all, it’s challenging outdated nonsense. ‘Girlie games’ is a quite frankly pathetic label. What’s it even supposed to mean? If anybody tried to explain what makes a game for girls then they’d sound like a blustering fool. Gaming’s a bad enough community without imposing silly rules on what games you can play depending on your gender.
@nessisonett I'm all for people enjoying anything they like, but some games are clearly designed with a young female demographic in mind. Barbie games are definitely in that wheelhouse, just like the toys they're based on. That's not a bad thing, and boys/men can and should be able to enjoy such products if they're so inclined (as Anti-Matter clearly is). That doesn't change the fact that they're primarily designed to appeal to young girls, though.
@JudgeDredd yeah I’d pretty much go along with that. I would say that I enjoy the Horizon games a little more than Spider-man games and I ain’t played any Ratchet games… but I’d probably have to put Insomniac into the top tier on output alone.
@colonelkilgore Wait a minute… you’ve not played any Ratchet games? As in, one of the premier OG Sony exclusives?
I think you might enjoy the series. The PS4 reboot is a great starting place. I didn’t play all the older PS2 and PS3 games and really enjoyed the PS4 game and Rift Apart as well. They aren’t quite GOTY material but are very fun games and good palate cleansers between the gritty dark realistic thrillers and mature titles. Don’t let the art style dissuade you — there’s some great gameplay at the core.

@Th3solution yeah I do plan on playing them… well the PS4 reboot and Rift Apart anyway. I just don’t fancy playing them really but am sure that when I start one I’ll enjoy it.
@RogerRoger yeah, it just seems ‘accepted’ knowledge online that Forbibben West was not only inferior to the original but poor also. Strange how things become ‘facts’ online.
@colonelkilgore The R&C story is quite silly and forgettable, imo (the series has its fans who would say that’s underselling) but the games play really smoothly and have such satisfying combat and weaponry.

@Th3solution I’m sure I’ll enjoy them. I’m sure it’ll be something like when the missus twists my arm into watching a Pixar movie… I never fancy it but usually end up thinking it was really quite good. Might try and squeeze the PS4 reboot in before the end of the year if I can.
@colonelkilgore R&C is a series that kind of passed me by back in the day but I had great fun with the reboot (even with a game breaking bug 2/3 of the way through the first time!) and then with Rift Apart.
The reboot looks great on PS5 too and I think I prefer it overall to the new game but the latter does a great job of showing off the PS5.
@colonelkilgore
You should, I didn't fancy it either but was glad when I finally did. Plus there is a trophy for using the weapon that makes enemies dance on all enemies in the game, it was worth it for that alone!
“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
@Thrillho
Yeah I just felt that summed up the joyful nature of the game - making a room of monsters break into a choreographed dance number while I went around and destroyed them with a wrench - happy days 😁

That’s an interesting one about which is the weakest Sony studio. I’d say Bend but Uncharted Golden Abyss was pretty decent. Sucker Punch is another weaker one but I haven’t played GoT yet. I’d even put Bluepoint in there because as much as I respect their work, there’s an argument to be made that the lack of original titles means they’ve taken less risks than studios which have released games that didn’t hit the same heights.
@sorteddan@nomither6@Th3solution@Thrillho a lot of love for Ratchet and Clank there! Well it’s definitely motivated me to play one as soon as I can squeeze one in. If not during the remainder of 2022, it’ll be early 2023 for sure. 👍
@colonelkilgore The two newer games are easily achievable platinums too.
The reboot takes a bit more work as you have to grind a bit to level up all the weapons but I quite enjoyed that as if meant you had to utilise all the weapons whereas you could just ignore most of them in Rift Apart if you wanted to.
(Slight early gameplay spoilers) In Ragnarok I like playing as Arteus
Do people not like those sections? Personally, the novelty did kinda run out for me by the end, as they did lack depth or progression in the way they played, but the first couple of times you got to do it I was like.... holy *****! They build on what they have here, and if needs to be a Kratosless God of War future I think it can work.
