@nessisonett I'm glad you enjoyed it. You should take one or more of your Mogwai vinyls down there with you from now on, hoping to catch him and ask him to sign it!

@Draco_V_Ecliptic Hahaha we’re not really like that here, you see somebody you recognise and you keep your head down and above all else do not let on that you know who they are.

@nessisonett Hahahaha, I'll keep that in mind, should I ever find myself in your neck of the woods!, with regard to prioritizing physical music over games, what do you feel you will pick up for your next purchase on vinyl?

@Draco_V_Ecliptic When I get paid, I’m definitely going to pick up those remastered Joy Division singles and also Invisible Girl by The King Khan & BBQ Show since there’s only 1 copy in stock. I’m just annoyed I’ll miss Record Store Day by a couple of weeks since it’s tomorrow.

@nessisonett Congratulations, looks like you've made some good choices, what's the one with the underwater scene? I'm quite interested in that one.

@Draco_V_Ecliptic Thats Invisible Girl by The King Khan & BBQ Show. It’s a sorta low fi garage rock album with some doo-wop elements.

@nessisonett Thanks, added it to my wish list! What do you make of Radiohead? Any preferences with regard to their albums/eras? They are on 6Music right now.

@Draco_V_Ecliptic Radiohead are one of those bands I go back and forth on. Kid A is probably their best album, it’s the most consistent, interesting and forward-thinking album of theirs. I’ve never been huge on O.K. Computer despite it being regarded as the best album of all time. It’s the Inception of albums for me!

@nessisonett Lol, comparing OK Computer to Inception hurts me a bit. Inception is alright, but it isn't one of the most amazing films of all time. Now that I think of it, I can hardly name anything that it was the greatest at. (If anyone reading this is an Inception fan, please try and convince me!) I don't know about OK Computer either being the best album, but it has got a lot of great ideas and a very strong delivery. The album certainly influenced the course of alternative music, and for the band itself it meant a bold direction as well. Inception... hardly changed anything. Batman Begins is a way stronger Nolan film.

@Draco_V_Ecliptic Anyway, I'll admit to being a big Radiohead fan. I've seen them quite a few times live too. My personal rating of their albums:

1 The King of Limbs
2 A Moon Shaped Pool
3 OK Computer/Amnesiac/In Rainbows (I think I love all three of them just as much, for completely different reasons)
4 Kid A
5 Hail to the Thief
6 The Bends
7 Pablo Honey

Also, recently I bought:

  • Serge Gainsbourgt: Melody Nelson (underrated gem)
  • Fiona Apple: Fetch The Bolt Cutters
  • Waxahatchee: St. Cloud
  • Lana Del Rey: Norman F*ing Rockwell

@Kidfried That’s a brave opinion putting The King of Limbs top! I know a lot of Radiohead nuts who would be pretty unhappy about that one. I’d probably rate out of the ones I’ve listened to:

1. Kid A
2. Amnesiac
3. The Bends
4. In Rainbows
5. OK Computer
6. A Moon Shaped Pool
7. Pablo Honey

Some good picks there too, I loved that Lana album but I wasn’t very big on FTBC to be honest, even if I really wanted to like it.

@Kidfried Thank you for the listing of the albums. What do you think of Cinema de by Gainsbourg?

@nessisonett I think The King of Limbs because it features a great mix of more rhythm-focused songs like Lotus Flower and Feral on one hand, and more ballad like songs such as Codex. The songs all have a real depth to them and the sonics are amazing. The album itself, so balanced and focused. I never really got why it was a divisive album at all.

@Draco_V_Ecliptic I don't think I remember the name. What is Cinema de?

@nessisonett Fetch The Bolt Cutters is among my favorite albums of all-time. I've been a fan of Apple since the start, so obviously not the most objective source on her music. When The Pawn and The Idler Wheel have always been personal favorites, but this album almost made me forget those classic albums.

The lyrics on that album hit me harder than anything in quite a while. And her voice just goes places. Also a great effort on making an album, that she has been working on for so long still sound... spontaneous, raw?

Quite an unusual Radiohead ranking yourself too, no? The people that appreciate Kid A the most usually don't put Bends in their top 3.

nessisonett

@Kidfried Yeah, I just think The Bends is a solid, consistent album. Almost every song is at least pretty good plus it finishes with Street Spirit, one of the best closing tracks of any album. It’s not that I dislike any of their albums, I’m just not as big on them as some other people. I’m sure I’d get a beating for preferring The Bends to OK Computer but to me, that’s an album of three songs, Paranoid Android, Karma Police and No Surprises. I’m not that fussed about the meat of the album in comparison.

RE: Fetch the Bolt Cutters, I really liked some songs and the production is great but parts grated slightly, even if I’m sure that was the intention. Shameika in particular I wasn’t a fan of but I loved songs like Cosmonauts and the title track. I rate all my listens through RateYourMusic and I think I gave FTBC a 3.0/5 which is basically “I enjoyed it but probably wouldn’t go out my way to listen to it again”.
