@colonelkilgore Well that's good as I haven't been blown away by them. Enjoyable enough though.

Then again it seems a franchise that has grown over time due to the decline of the Bourne and Bond franchises. My brother says they get better as they go on as well so I have something to look forward to.

@LN78 Same with Only God Forgives. I had a similar feeing after Men but for slightly different reasons. I see that NWR has a series on Netflix, which I wouldn't mind giving a go. No doubt it will completely go over my head, and I will have to watch a few videos for me to understand it! 😂

Gina Carano’s new movie made $804 at the box office. A long long fall from The Mandalorian.

Last night I watched Host (2020) - not to be confused with any of the multiple films called The Host that I scrolled last while looking for it.

It's a British indie horror film that plays out over the screens of a zoom call while a group of friends are having a seance set during the Covid lockdown period. Thought it was an interesting idea and really enjoyed it. Only around an hour long and I'd recommend you give it a watch it it sounds like something you'd be interested in.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. I’m not sure I’d actually seen the whole thing before but it definitely holds up. Mad to think that it’s the first animated movie ever. It looks fantastic, the songs are great and there’s still genuinely funny sections even 86 years later. The only thing I’d say is that the pacing is a little off but that’s to be expected as I can only imagine how tough it was to jump from 10 minute shorts to a full feature length movie.

Project A-Ko (Blu-Ray)

Got this in on Blu-Ray as I remembered finding it pretty humorous when I watched it online at some point in the distant past.

It's... fun. An action parody of the anime tropes of the mid-late 80's, it probably won't win you over if you aren't already an anime fan (especially a fan of the era it was berthed from), but if you are it's worth a shot.

It was nice seeing it remastered in HD, some of the shots still hold up pretty well (I personally loved the space ship & most of the mecha design), it still holds a few chuckles (I laughed my rear off during a reveal during a theatre scene while the characters were watching a horror film), and the presence of fan service is a nice touch as always.

For the Blu-Ray itself it gets props for being absolutely stuffed with about the most special features I've seen in an anime release (especially for a film), and it even has a reversible cover.

Watched my 4K copy of The Northman. Such a good movie and looks fantastic in 4K. Some scenes in particular are almost like paintings, the bit where he’s being tortured and it zooms in on his face was practically like The Passion of the Christ.

@nessisonett Brilliant movie. The scene when he gets the sword felt like it was from a FromSoftware game. Gutted that I missed it at the cinema, that really would have been fantastic to watch on a mahoosive screen.

@LN78 I'm hearing good things about Puss in Boots 2, so it is defo on my radar. This is from people that had no interest in the film before watching it and had not seen the previous film. The art style has me intrigued has have heard it compared to Spider-man Into the Spider-verse.

One person even said he might even prefer it to that film, which seems like a bold claim, as Spider-verse is one of my favourite films of the last few years.

I'm not massively into animated films, but will watch them now and again to break up all the other stuff.

Just finished watching Jurassic World. Absolutely phenomenal movie! Great pacing, there was constant action after only half an hour into the movie. This is honestly what I imagined the original Jurassic Park was going to be, i.e. an active amusement park with thousands of people that are in danger of being attacked by the dinosaurs. There were so many cool moments in the movie and I think my favourite is when Chris Pratt is driving a motorcycle next to the running velociraptors.

Anyway, really enjoyed this movie and I can't wait to watch the next ones!

Pinocchio 1940. Always found it bloody creepy as a kid but a fresh watch really shows how magical it is. It’s a massive step up from Snow White in terms of feeling more like a true animated movie rather than a straight adaptation of a fairy tale. When people refer to ‘Disney Magic’, the opening half hour of Pinocchio is about as distilled as it gets.

A Man Called Otto (cinema)

Tom Hanks plays a grumpy old man lost in life who makes trouble for everyone in the neighborhood, however thanks to a young family that moves next door (& a cat) he gets a new lease on life.

Not typically the kind of thing I'd see in theatres, but we went as a family & I'm glad I saw it. It bounces between comedic moments & dark, emotional ones, and while it may not be the most unique idea I can't really find anything to fault with it. The leads put in great performances, it was shot well, and it had me both laughing & bawling my eyes out throughout it's runtime so it did something right.

Has anyone seen The Menu? I'm hearing good things about it. And is stars Ralph Fiennes which always a plus. Some people say it betters his performance in Spider by David Cronenberg, which is high praise indeed.
