@LN78 I have… but not for what must be 30 years. I have a real soft spot for Tony Scott as it goes, I mean his films are more veneer than solid oak… but sometimes I’m in the mood for that tbh.

@LN78 yeah that would have to be his ‘best’ film, Days of Thunder is my guilty pleasure… and then most of his other films fall in between. Shout outs to Top Gun, Spy Game, Enemy of the State and Man on Fire.

@LN78 fair… I never used to like him much either but he won me over with Edge of Tomorrow and I’ve re-evaluated my hate 😅

@LN78 lol… I loved Maverick! Don’t be put off giving Edge of Tomorrow a go though, it might well be my favourite Groundhog Day-film (& and I’m yet to watch one that I didn’t enjoy).

@LN78 well if you do end up catching it on a sale, definitely let me know your thoughts… good or bad 👍

@LN78 Interview with the Vampire spans both vampires and Tom Cruise! I actually really like that movie even though it’s rather silly.

@RogerRoger Yeah I was thinking about how great it was that they managed to fit both Sonic 2 and 3 games into the second movie, in terms of characters that is. It definitely makes the movies much better that way.

@LN78 Russell Crowe and Oliver Reed back in action to fight Commodus' ghost, we will be entertained!

I do miss the old sword and sandal epics like Gladiator and Troy.

According to Deadline, Ridley Scott is actually going ahead with the oft-rumoured "Gladiator 2". Given his recent history with belated sequels I wonder if this is cause for celebration or not.

Don’t tell me it’ll be based on the script where a dead Maximus is travelling through the layers of a Greco-Roman hell-scape?!?! 😃

Edit. Just saw your next post 😔

@LN78 At least Paul Mescal’s a much much better choice than the other ones that auditioned. Unless it was Twinkiator then I’m not sure.

The wife and I recently watched Sleepers. As we are going through older films we missed growing up, or maybe weren't age appropriate for at the time. (Not that it didn't stop us from seeing certain films).

@LN78 I was thinking the same. I have a feeling Mad God by Phil Tippet will be miles better than it. Will share my thoughts once I've seen it at some point this weekend.

Puss n Boots I'll probably put on Netflix when my nieces and nephews are over.

@LN78 Yes, I did read that after watching it as was having a debate with my other half if it did actually happen.

Phil Tippett's Mad God, what an insane movie. Loved every second of it. Will probably be sometime before I see a film as nuts as this again!

I watched that documentary about Mickey Mouse on Disney+ last night. It was a bit saccharine for my tastes but understandable given the subject matter and the fact that American documentaries do tend to be a little glossier. Obviously you aren’t likely to get the most critical look at him as a corporate entity from a Disney production but at least they attempted to address the overzealous copyright protection, the blackface, the groping cartoons etc. Better than glossing over it. While I would prefer a drier, more in depth documentary on the company (open to recommendations), it was still an enjoyable enough watch.

@LN78 Off the top of my head:

1. Fight Club (I blame this on already knowing the twist at the end and the outrageous hype around it)

2. The Breakfast Club (watched this one not too long ago, maybe I missed the hype train again. I could see what they were trying to do but didn't think it was executed well)

3. Joker (very controversial opinion I imagine but just found it hard work and believe that it wouldn't have gotten the critical reception it did had it not been addressing the issue of mental health.

I agree with your view on E.T. by the way but I've never seen the others.

@The_Moose Yeah I didn't find Joker an enjoyable experience either. I can appreciate the craft involved, but that was a difficult watch for me.

Well-regarded films that I don't think much of. Hmm...

Bridesmaids
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Goldfinger
The Godfather
The Goonies
The Shining
Vertigo

I'm sure there are more, but those immediately come to mind.

@LN78 It appears two of mine are in the list. I guess when they send out the assassins to silence dissent, I'm first on the chopping block.
