I stumbled across the above video yesterday and decided to watch the whole thing. It's not from a creator I'm familiar with, nor have I actually played this game yet.

Some interesting points are raised, and I can't form a proper opinion about whether or not this indeed represents a slippery slope into a new paradigm of advertising.

Personally, I am indeed uncomfortable with the idea of paying to be advertised to, although this would hardly be the first time product placement has been used like this or to this extent - perhaps Resident Evil: Requiem's execution of this is novel. I'm not sure of the specific legal configuration this falls under, nor would I even be able to claim any form of expertise on the matter.

One example of this that springs to mind for me is Ducati in Tomb Raider Legend. So is this being executed in a way that is functionally different? Or in a way that will open the floodgates for a more insidious form of media presentation? I can't say; these are all questions raised in my mind.

The comments on the video do seem to be overwhelmingly negative towards the criticisms, calling them an overreaction, not anything to worry about, an indication of psychiatric issues on the part of the YouTuber... you know, all the usual internet vitreol. I do think it's ok to speak up about something that makes you uncomfortable, and there can definitely be found some value in genuine discussion. Most of those comments don't really seem to be engaging with the matter(s) at hand, even if they were delivered somewhat emotionally (that assessment is highly subjective as well).

So, to people who have played it, to what extent do you agree or disagree with the points raised in the video? Was the product placement as noticeable as the video seems to highlight? What other thoughts do you have about their inclusion?

Not intending to rage bait here - this is something I find genuinely intriguing.
