@KidBoruto, yeah, I don't own much physically (I only had Captain Earth, Godannar, and the first two Evangelion rebuild films before my recent purchase), but I'm gonna try & get into it more often.

@RR529 Big fan of the City Hunter series and some of the movies as well. Love Saeba and gang. The anime had some really nice and catchy city pop songs as well. Unfortunately, Shinjuku Private Eyes was only a 6/10 for me.

Huntin' monsters erryday.

@nessisonett Lol, Jackie Chan had some really good movies during the 80s and 90s but that City Hunter movie terrible. Plus that Street Fighter scene was a joke.

There's also a French version City Hunter movie.

@WanderingBullet, I thought the movie (Shinjuku Private Eyes) was pretty fun.

I guess maybe the drone CGI clashed with the 2D animation (which itself looked really good, IMO) a bit too much, and watching it dubbed I think they shouldn't have tried to translate his catchphrase ("Nookie" just doesn't have the same ring to it), but other than that I don't have anything to complain about.

It also made me realize I need to watch Cat's Eye at some point.

@RR529 I've watched all the City Hunter series episodes and movies (I think) but not Cat's Eye. Hopefully, one day they'll be available on Netflix.

Some anime I got in over the weekend.

Untitled

Lupin the 3rd: Jigen's Gravestone - the first in the "Koike" trilogy of Lupin films. Watched it on Saturday night and other than being a tad shorter than I typically expect from a movie (it's just about an hour long), I thought it was excellent & will definitely check out the other two (the way the villains tried to execute Fujiko certainly was... something, though).

Tekkaman Blade II - Like New Cutey Honey in my last batch, this is an old 90's OVA series I last watched on YouTube a decade ago, and was thrilled to see it available remastered on Blu-Ray. It was pretty short (6 episodes) so I binged it over the weekend, and still thought it was fantastic.

Maken-Ki season 2 - If season one was any indication, this is just going to be more fan service guilty pleasure than anything else, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Bonus: alternate box art for Jigen's Gravestone under the slip case.

@KidBoruto, yay, another InuYasha fan! There doesn't seem to be that many of us around these days.

Also, what's the show in the plastic wrap? The glare is obscuring the title.

@KidBoruto I really enjoyed black clover. The last 10 eps feature some of the best anime fights available. Hope it comes back soon.

@RR529 InuYasha fans still exist, we just have been overshadowed by YashaHime and other anime giants sadly lol. To be honest though, I haven't even seen Final Act yet!

Planning to re-watch the entire original series first before I start it and YashaHime.

That anime would be The Book of Bantorra! Blind buy that I got after seeing the trailer and some positive reviews.

@z0d15g0d I've heard good things about Black Clover but haven't watched yet! Waiting for them to release a Season 3 Complete Blu-Ray first.

RR529

@KidBoruto, YashaHime sadly sucks (though from what I understand it's partially due to behind the scenes development issues), and hasn't overshadowed the OG series in any meaningful way. It was highly divisive, with a ton of fans noping out at some point, and what goodwill it has left being from SessRin shippers who are happy the show confirmed it.

That said I hear the manga adaptation is a ton better (fixes a plethora of the anime's narrative plot holes), and as a huge fan of the series will give it a read once I'm done rereading the OG manga.

@Kairu Yea Haikyu!! is really good. Some sports anime are absolutely amazing. My brain hates sports irl (always fall asleep) but sports anime get me pumped. Check out Kuroko no Basket, Major, Hajime no Ippo, Ace of Diamonds and currently airing that I'm enjoying AoAshi.

@Kairu No problem dude. Let me know your thoughts if you manage to see them yes AoAshi is the football anime. It's fun seeing what types of powers/ super skills the creators come up with related to the sport. No hadouken or Kamehameha type moves, usually based on real world techniques but super versions.

Additions to my small, but growing, collection.

Untitled

Ghost in the Shell Arise 1&2 - The first two entries in the GitS Arise OVA. Each one is about an hour long, so I'm gonna wait until I have the time & watch them back to back like a movie.

City Hunter 2 set 1 - Really liked the first season of City Hunter when I streamed it on Retro Crush, so decided I'm going to buy the rest of it physically. I've never been so scared of breaking a disc because they are just gripped in there unreasonably tightly, but luckily I managed to remove the first disc without issue. Just finished watching the first episode and it was very enjoyable as predicted.

Bonus: boxes outside the slip cases.

They're a little late in getting here, but here are my latest additions (still working through City Hunter 2 from the last set, so no new series, just a couple movies/OVAs).

Untitled

Ghost in the Shell ARISE parts 3 & 4 - the last two OVAs in the ARISE line. Already watched them last night & they're narratively pretty dense IMO, but worth a look if you liked the first two.

Lupin the 3rd: Goemon's Bloodspray - Followup to Jigen's Gravestone. Watched it last night & it was insanely fun. Very bloody, action packed, modern take on a samurai film focusing on Goemon being pushed to the limit when he finds himself up against a nearly indestructible American assassin named Hawk who has killer axe skills.

Bonus: Alternate box art outside of the slip covers.

New pickups arrived today.

Lupin the 3rd: Fujiko's Lie - Last entry in the "Koike" trilogy. Really liked the first two, so I'm eager to watch this (though the weakest aspect thus far was Fujiko's plotline in Jigen's Gravestone, so maybe I should keep my expectations in check).

Triage X - I've watched this a couple times before (via streaming), so I'll know I'll enjoy it (it unfortunately doesn't cover the entire manga, but I follow that too).

High School of the Dead - Again, have watched it before via streaming, so know I'll like it (& have already started it). Likewise it doesn't cover the entire manga, but I plan to get to that eventually.

High School of the Dead: Drifters of the Dead - The OVA episode of the series. Usually these are included in the base physical release, so it was surprising that it was a separate release.

Bonus: Alternate Fujiko's Lie art under the slip case.
