@Ravix I definitely could use my cans wired if I want to. (Also… “cans” is slang for certain physical attributes on a lady, so that makes the term even more awkward 😂) I just have my cheap earbuds perpetually plugged into the Portal and don’t even think about it. In general I am playing the less graphically intense and less immersive games on Portal anyway, so audio fidelity isn’t as important as when I’m playing the big showcase AAA games which I prefer on big OLED TV.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
But Dead Souls is just so damn expensive. I don’t mind shelling out decent sums for ps3 games generally… but I draw the line at anything over £100, which rules it out for me unfortunately.
Dead Souls is over £100 physically?! Good lord I did not realise that at all. And I'd rather swallow a cup of needles then use the PS3 store
As for going back to Yakuza... I'd probably go back to Kiwami 2? Thanks to Kiryu being a huge part of Infinite Wealth I'd have to catch up at least little regardless with that Kiryu standalone... Man without a name? And I'd prefer to see the entire journey.
Or maybe I'd just jump into the pirate Majima game instead cus... It's Majima and I don't need to catch up for it at all.
Thanks Yakuza devs for making this a really annoying endeavour and not just making 7 onwards all about Ichiban 😅

@graymamba This might be a good time to ask... is Judgment a solid entry point? I'm not sure how much the game expects you to know from stories or characters of the main series. I assume the protagonist of the spin-off himself is in some way involved in the major goings-on. I've never been particularly interested in the main series, however, as crime stories are generally not my thing... plus the fact that there's around a million of them and they're all long endeavors. [i[Judgment[/i] caught my eye more for the investigation aspect of the game and people generally agreeing that it's got a solid narrative, but I hope I won't end up confused by missing out on all kinds of larger context. It's already in my library thanks to my tendency for impulse buys!
Honestly @Tjuz I’m not the best person to ask as the only RGG studios games I’ve played so far are Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2 and Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise (though I have them all in my backlog with the exception of Pirate Majima, which I intend on picking up at some point).
Having said that, I have heard many people state that Judgment is a good entry for the noob. Don’t think you need any knowledge of Kiryu and his misadventures… though there may well be the odd nod if you get me. From the footage I’ve seen on the Judgment games, the combat looks a little flashier too, though maybe that happens in the Yakuza games I’m yet to play.
Best advice that I could give you is… nothing can fully prepare you for Yakuza. It’s just so different and diverse. It took me well over 150 hours to plat the original Kiwami and I’m not sure I felt that I was into any of it at the time. I was quite glad it was over and had no intention of ever going back. Then something made me give Kiwami 2 a shot a couple of years later… and I loved it. I think it took a period of time for my subconscious to fully integrate and appreciate the bizarreness of it all.
@graymamba Fair enough. At least it sounds like you know enough about its place in the universe that you can give advice worth taking! Everything I've ever seen from the series has looked just... peculiar. I honestly have no clue how I will react to it, because despite enjoying my fair share of camp, it still seems like a lot tonally. I'm amazed you got 150 hours into Kiwami only to still not be sold on the whole concept! What do you think made you get that far despite not quite matching with it? Was it just an easy play to turn off your brain and mindlessly go through it? A comfort? I hope my brain will be quicker to acclimatise to Judgment than it was for yours to fully ''get'' Yakuza, but at least I'll know that even if not, all hope wouldn't be lost yet at getting into this weird universe eventually!
I also just can't help but to respect this series for pumping out games on such a regular basis that so many people love and keep loving with every new entry. Whether or not it'll be for me, it delights me to see it bring joy to so many and do so consistently. In an industry filled with franchises that take a half decade or more to bring more of what you love, it does make me happy a franchise like Yakuza is still there doing its own thing and doing so successfully.
@Tjuz Judgment is completely separate from the Yakuza games from a story perspective. The yakuza underworld obviously plays a big part of the story and it set in the iconic Kamurocho location still but there is zero crossover with characters from the main series.
The combat is similar but with the protagonist having unique styles from the original games. It has loads of different mechanics from the other games, in particular collecting evidence and using it in conversations or courtroom scenes that is really well done. And I liked that the side quests were done as jobs through the detective agency rather than randomly being picked up on the streets. There's obviously loads of the random other activities to do like the main series.
The overall story is one of the most interesting in the series too so if you're interested in the games without the baggage of the whole Kiryu timeline it's a great place to start. It also has English dub if you're a heathen, unlike most of the Yakuza games.
Side note: the PS5 upgrade was an additional cost but the game looked great with it.
@Thrillho You don't know how much the idea of courtroom scenes and collecting evidence appeals to me! I must have been a lawyer in another life. It's good to hear that they execute it well in this game, because that is ultimately what intrigues me the most about it. Happy to hear that the story lives up to what I've heard, so I'll definily have to give this one a shot sooner rather than later. I am generally a "original-dub-or-die" person, but I can't say I've ever had a non-English dub in any video game. Not sure how I will react to that in a medium where I'm expected to be more proactive and juggle more things than looking at the screen and reading subtitles, but I'll give it a shot with Japanese at first for sure. I'll let you know when I do eventually get around to it!
@Bentleyma Let me know your thoughts when you get around to trying it! I've played the first two episodes and will likely play the freshly released ones over the weekend. I've had a blast so far, especially with the second episode. It feels right to have a more Telltale-style game back after I fell in love with them way back when.
@Bentleyma Just played the third episode, and I'm definitely getting more and more into it as it goes along. I find the choices they present feel consistently meaningful and satisfying, and I already really like the arcs some of these characters are taking. The dispatching was a little frustrating for me at first, because I hate leaving anything in games up to a dice roll, even if it mostly turned out well in all of the episodes I've played this far. I also had a hard time deciphering what skills were needed for certain jobs at first, but as I've learned the language of the game, I've been able to predict what they want from me better. With all that out of the way, the dispatching has now also started to feel like more of a fun asset of the game than the drag I thought it would feel like after the first episode.
I have to ask you though... Did you cut Coupé or Sonar from the team? After much deliberation, I decided to cut Coupé despite her apparently being my most used hero as shown at the end of the episode... that gave me possibly some buyer's remorse, as I didn't realise I used her so much. In my mind, Sonar felt like the right choice to keep in my situation as I had just given him flight training, is more broadly covering the necessary skills with his switching form and because he just generally seems less evil. Which was quickly proven by how intimidating Coupé made her exit.
Just found a copy of Metaphor Refantazio for £20.00. My turn-based JRPG backlog is getting pretty deep now… but after feeling completely miffed about the genre for many a moon, it’s nice to be in a place where that feels like a good thing.
@graymamba I enjoyed what I played of it, it just seemed to never end and the stuff to build up your followers ranks eventually became a drag I found. Prepare to block out a big chunk of your schedule for the platiunum run!

@graymamba Nice, good deal that and the game is also on my to buy list.
My latest is Propagation Paradise Hotel VR on PSN, £4 and change. Added to the my long VR2 backlog, whilst I’m actually thinking of addressing my VR1 backlog which includes Skyrim dlc and I’m very much in the mood for some Skyrim.
@JohnnyShoulder appreciate the warning, just checked the trophy guide and it’s 100+ hours… and I find that I’m normally over that time by a bit too. Sounds like it’ll be around 125 hours-ish for me. I started and subsequently dropped Persona 5 about 5/6 years ago, so I’ll want to go back and get that done before I start this… but I’ll look forward to eventually getting to it.
@CaptD I was only thinking about Skyrim this morning as it goes. Hadn’t heard of PPH before (I don’t really stay abreast of vr stuff if I’m honest) but just checked it out and looks pretty cool… a good price too!
@Zuljaras
Nice. I enjoyed Scared 2 on PS3 so I’m interested to see how good the remaster is.
As for Tormented Souls 2, I totally missed the first one so I’ve added that to my wish list.
