Really looking forward to seeing what Chapter 3 & 4 have to offer!
Hopefully the wait for chapters 5, 6 & 7 to be added to the game isn't gonna to be too long but Chapters 1 & 2 were a solid 6/7 hours of content (10 or so if you did everything) so the £18.99 price tag for is fine by me!

"You don't have to save the world to find meaning in life. Sometimes all you need is something simple, like someone to take care of"
Pulled the trigger on Ghost of Yotei pre-order. I rarely pre-order, but I figured that this is a game I'll probably want to play as early as possible and I don't expect it will need months of post-launch polish to be playable, going by the dev's recent efforts.
@FuriousMachine Did you go digital or physical?
I was thinking about how my personal pre-ordering habits have changed recently. In the PS3 and early PS4 generation I routinely pre-ordered games. Of course all my game purchases were physical back then and there would be occasional shortages and they would run out of niche games. But even with major releases I’d pre-order and pick the disc up on day 1, or at the occasional midnight release when they would do that.
I now almost never pre-order and I was trying to analyze why. I think the creep towards digital is part of that. Although I still prefer a disc to a digital game, my tolerance for not having a tangible copy has grown. They never run out of digital copies, so I really never have to worry about not being able to find the game at launch. There’s sometimes when I really want a disc though, usually because I want the ability to flip the game into the second hand market and recoup some cash, should I not want to keep the game.
Another deterrent for pre-ordering has definitely been what you alluded to — the fact that most games are better experiences after a couple patches, and in some case the launch version of a game is downright awful. In previous generations, that was less true and a game didn’t change much from day 1 to day 100.
But I think the main reason I don’t pre-order as often is because of my enormous backlog. I didn’t have such a large library 10-15 years ago, so I played many major releases at launch. Especially the marquee AAA and first party stuff. I played Ghost of Tsushima at launch.
The last pre-order I did was actually Clair Obscur. And it’s not because I’ve played it at launch, but the pre-order incentive on PS store was a 10% discount and when the reviews landed with such praise I knew I wanted to eventually get it, so figured I might as well save $5 whilst also throwing a little support behind a small AA studio project. I probably won’t play it until later this year.
@Th3solution I very rarely go physical, unless there is some gaming tat in a deluxe physical edition that I really want (rare) and feel I can afford to "waste" money on (even rarer). So, digital for me, and also the basic version, as I'm not really interested in "exclusive" weapons, armours, etc. I will only go for a deluxe (or whatever) digital edition if it includes story/mission/gameplay DLC or the like, as I will typically buy that anyway (unless I wind up hating the game, of course).
A massive backlog is also the reason I almost never pre-order. Most games I can wait until they're on sale and even after I've bought them on sale it can be months before I actually get around to playing them. Some games hit the old excite-o-meter so hard that I will try to clear my gaming schedule so that I can play them at launch; "Ghost of Yotei" is one such game and the last one to do that was also "Clair Obscur" for me as well. I can't remember which game I last pre-ordered before that again.
EDIT: Re-reading your post, I was reminded that the last one before "Clair Obscur" was "Banishers", as I also occasionally will throw my support behind devs I like who typically don't see AAA sales numbers. I wound up not liking the game, but that's fine
@FuriousMachine Yeah, aside from my still clinging onto the occasional physical copy, we’re of the same mindset I think.
And it looks like you do get a bonus mask and avatar set for the Yotei pre-order, in addition to being pre-loaded and ready to go day 1. Sounds like that’s not a huge factor for you but it’s a little something for your commitment. 😄

@Th3solution Yeah, some pre-order extras are always welcome, and I do like cool cosmetic items. I was an early adopter of the infamous horse armour, after all These days, though, not enough to shell out for a deluxe edition with nothing else. I'm not into digital soundtracks or digital artbooks either, as I prefer to have my music on vinyl and use Spotify for everything else. Artbooks could be cool, but only in physical form, for me.
That being said, I always add all versions to my wishlist, as I've noticed that a sale may knock down the price of a deluxe edition to below the price of the standard, so if I were ready to pull the trigger on that particular game at that particular time, I would consider that a slight "win".
Had my eye on Everspace 2 for a while, hoping that I may catch a deal. Didn’t end up getting it as cheap as I’d have liked… but just picked it up for £35.
Vampire the masquerade VR. Stealth game with a touch of dishonoured. Reviews were good originally but user reviews aren’t so much due to bugs etc.., hopefully they are few and far between for me.
Ghost signal VR, a rogue lite which is normally not my bag but we need as many space VR games as we can get, seriously where is Star Wars Squadrons for VR2.
@CaptD while VR has always been a bit of a hard sell for me, something akin to Dishonored in VR sounds like a perfect combination. I’ll be interested to hear how you get on with that.
Resident Evil 2 Remake, System Shock Remake & Romancing Saga 2: Revenge Of The Seven
Didn't realise Resident Evil 2 had got a physical release for PS5, thought it was a digital only upgrade so I snagged a copy. I didn't get a chance to finish it when I was playing it via PS Plus last year so... So I'll be able to finish it this time at my leisure!
Always wanted to play System Shock and heard good things about it. Remake seemed to have pretty good buzz about it too so... Looking forward to it.
I played the demo for Romancing Saga 2: Revenge Of the Seven recently and actually really enjoyed it. Seems like a fun classic JRPG with a new coat of paint.
Funny how they're all remakes now that I look at it...
Have had Resident Evil Village on my wishlist for a few years now, watching as it frequently goes on sale for $20, knowing I’m not going to have time to get to it for a while, so letting the sale goes by…
then it goes on sale now for $10, so I figured I wouldn’t pass that price up. I can’t imagine it will ever sell for less, as even physical used copies are $18.
Still need to play RE7 though. And RE5 & 6 for that matter. I’m leaning toward skipping straight to 7 though. Not sure. But my next horror game I was planning to play is Days Gone, Alan Wake, or Dead Space.

@Th3solution
Just to be awkward I say Days Gone but Dead Space is awesome as well, skip Alan Wake.
Don’t forget to buy RE4r gold edition when that is cheap.
@JohnnyShoulder Your vote has been recorded. 😄
And honestly I do need to get to Dead Space.
I also do remember that you were one who suggested that I can / should skip straight to the newer games in the RE series. I was always planning to do the whole mainline series in sequence, but I’m gradually getting accustomed to the idea of bypassing 5 and 6. Still considering 5, but now with rumors of a remake of it, maybe not.
But it will be a couple months before I get to my next horror game. Maybe in October… 🤔

@CaptD I loved RE4r when I played it earlier this year and in retrospect should have gone with the gold edition. Alas, I’m keeping my eyes open for when Separate Ways goes on sale, but may end up just buying it for the baseline $10.
Regarding Days Gone, I was leaning towards getting it played this year, so maybe I can do both. It’s a longer game though and harder for me to squeeze in.

@Th3solution I played through the remake of Dead Space earlier this month and enjoyed every moment of it.
Were you planning on getting the PS5 version of Days Gone? I would need to borrow my Dad's copy to get it for a tenner if I fancied giving it a go, as I only have it through PS Plus.
