@JohnnyShoulder I’m the same — I only have the PS+ copy of Days Gone for PS4, so I think I’ll just play that. It has a PS5 patch with 60 fps, if I’m not mistaken. The new PS5 Remaster didn’t set the world on fire as far as additional upgrades except for the new hoard mode that people really seemed to like. If I had access to the disc then I’d probably pay the $10 to get the full updated version though. As it is, I’ll probably just play what I have.
I tried Dead Space back on PS3 very briefly (maybe it was a demo or something, I can’t remember or if I borrowed from a friend). At the time I wasn’t really into horror/thriller/spooky games and so I just barely spent any time. I’m a totally different gamer now and have gained an appreciation for horror action and survival games. I don’t know if I’ve played a true space horror game yet though. Have you tried Callisto Protocol? Apparently it’s a poor man’s Dead Space, so until the DS2 Remake come it might be worth trying. I’m definitely putting it lower down the list after I’ve first cleared some of these other horror games.
@Th3solution
The demo for Dead Space on PS3 was nothing like the game, I played it and was put off purchasing the game however some time later I did buy it as basically there wasn’t much else to play at that time. Ending up loving that game.
As for Days Gone, yes it is 60fps. The PS4 version is fine and imo the remake wasn’t really needed but whatever,
@Th3solution two of my faves that you’re mulling over. The irony is that I’d say Dead Space is clearly the better game… but I prefer Days Gone. I’m aware of how little sense that makes 🤣
@Th3solution Not tried Callisto Protocol. It was on my PS5 for an age and then Dead Space dropped onto PS Plus. Doubt I will play it as Alan Wake 2 and Silent Hill 2 Remake are the next horror games I wanna play next. And then Resident Evil Requiem after those.
@CaptD That’s good to know. I’ve had times when a demo dissuaded me from playing a game that I ended up really loving when I tried the full game (Nier Automata comes to mind).
I suspect that game production companies have data that shows demos being largely ineffective in the current state of the industry. Seems the emphasis is a lot more on game trials, as well as F2P live service, which if you think about it are sort of like an extended game trial where they hook you and convince you to pay later after you are already invested.
It’s just that some SP and narrative focused games have a slow ramp up and so you’ve got to put a couple hours into before things really get clicking.
@graymamba Makes sense to me! 😄
And I suspect it boils down to the two games being just fundamentally different — open world action zombie-fest vs. a more linear claustrophobic survival tactical styled game in a spaceship. In my brain I categorize anything that makes me scared or has creepy looking undead enemies are all lumped together. 😂
So thematically, I do have to pace myself and not play too many things with the same energy in close proximity. Just like after I finish my current fantasy RPG I won’t want to see any more wizards or dwarves for a while. 😅

@JohnnyShoulder Those are all games I want to try as well — thus my short list including the first Alan Wake, and then getting RE7 and 8 knocked out (although I think Requiem is going to be an independent unrelated entry…?) I’ve heard I can easily jump straight into Silent Hill 2 without playing the first, although by the time I get to it then the SH1 Remake will probably be out. 😅

@Th3solution yeah it just comes down to nigh-on perfect design (Dead Space) vs non-scripted open-world surprises. I can totally appreciate various masterpieces (Dead Space being one in my opinion… you may remember that I rated it as one of my favourite series of all time) but it doesn’t mean that I don’t have more fun with something that fits my wheelhouse better but is objectively a worse game.
Case in point, as much as I love The Last of Us, if and when the third game gets announced, I’ll just quietly raise my glass to Neil Druckmann… where as, if Just Cause 5 got unveiled, I’d streak around my cul-de-sac 5 times at the very least 🤣
@graymamba Lol, I understand. Actually the front page article about TLoU2 has me thinking about the game again, and although its gameplay is significantly better and more enjoyable than the first game, there’s definitely times during the game where it’s not at all fun. In fact you can feel pretty miserable inside while playing it. I definitely see what Druckmann meant when he prefaced Part II by saying that not all games had to be fun to be engaging. (I forget the exact quote)
Another example from my repertoire of favorites that’s a little like that is Shadow of the Collosus. It’s a bonafide masterpiece and if/when Ueda’s next game is ever revealed, I’ll be quite excited, although maybe more than raising a glass, but less than streaking the neighborhood. Yet Bloodborne 2 might just get me out there running along with you in the raw around your cul-de-sac! We might have to go around more than 5 times for that one. 🫣

@graymamba
I wouldn’t worry about it as I’m sure there whey will have lots of deliveries in three days.
Aside though I haven’t found amazon to be all that good in the last few years, they are certainly slipping imo.
Game collection have it in stock, £65 seems a tad expensive though.
@CaptD yeah, it’s not as if I was going to play it straight away anyway tbh… just one of those games that I want to support from day one really. I’ll keep checking and get a copy soon no doubt.
@Ravix in all honesty, I don’t like having my account details spread around too many online storefronts tbh… so I tend to just get everything from Amazon. As I mentioned to @CaptD, I’m sure I’ll be able to grab a copy before too long.
@Th3solution Your shortlist seems suspiciously similar to my gaming choices lately... are you sure we don't share a brain cell somewhere? Haha. I just finished the Alan Wake remaster two days ago and booted up Resident Evil 7 yesterday for a first-time playthrough. So far so good, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on both games when you do eventually get to them! Maybe all the things going on in the world are leading us to choosing the darker options when it comes to gaming.
@Tjuz Indeed! Some kind of shared brain wave length going on somehow. 😄
I’ll certainly drop thoughts with whatever direction I take in the horror / dark genre. I don’t know why I’ve been more into the darker games in recent times, but the state of the world is certainly one possible factor!
