Topic: What Games Are You Hoping For?

@JohnnyShoulder yeah that's fair, I've never played a battle royale and have only played one MMO myself. All I do know is that since I have made a conscious effort to alternate between genres etc. personally I have enjoyed my gaming a lot more. But finding that balance is obviously a personal thing... the way I do it wouldn't work for you and vice-versa etc.

@colonelkilgore Really, is that how it works? I thought my way is the only way.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

I am looking forward to Blue Reflection 2nd Light, should be epic.

The PSVR is the best VR system on the market today.

We all like what seems appealing to us. I've never really been an experimenter with anything - games or otherwise. I see something that I'm drawn to, and if I like it, I stick with it. Forever, lol. The heart wants what it wants, you know?

I've always wondered what a proper upgraded version of The Order 1886 could offer.

Get rid of those black bars on the screen, dial down the film grain, offer a buttery smooth 60fps.

I still feel it's (potentially?) one of the best new I.P of the last 10 years.

It is a shame we might never see a sequel.

Still, a complete overhaul to get that 60fps would be worth it to me.

I'd also like to see a good Superman game and maybe an epic Sci fi adventure that's like a cross between the visuals of Death Stranding, the exploration of No Man's Sky, and the story of Mass Effect.

@Godabove09 With respect, wouldn't the changes you propose to The Order: 1886 slightly ruin its whole aesthetic and atmosphere? I understand that there might've been technical reasons for the presentational choices it made, but the whole "grainy letterbox movie" vibe really added to the whole experience, for me at least (and hey, I could be alone in that). Even making it 60fps would shatter that illusion, and none of its action was intense enough to require such responsiveness.

I fully agree with you that the game didn't deserve to get kicked to the curb like it did, and I would've pre-ordered a sequel in a heartbeat, if one had been announced. Still, I reckon that its unique presentation is a big part of the reason why I enjoyed it so much.

@RogerRoger I mean, I see your point.

But, games that are just as immersive or narrative driven don't have the bars and film grain etc...so I'm not sure they are required to guarantee atmosphere.

The 60fps is just a personal preference - though it was really brought home to me how rough the 30 can feel a while back.

I had been replaying older titles on my new computer and was playing something on pc at 120fps, and later on I went back to the Order and it felt awful.

Truly terrible.

Like a slideshow.

Granted, I absolutely had my perception altered by the smoothness of higher fps, and had I been playing The Order from the start again and adjusted I wouldn't have noticed it after a while.

I concede that point.

Still, it was a stark reminder of how choppy 30 can feel if you are regularly playing at 60 and above.

Perhaps, if a ps5 remaster ever appeared (which I think we probably both know won't happen) then maybe we would see several options - be it a 30fps original version with all the stuff you mentioned but with some graphical touches and a boosted resolution, or a 60fps version without some of that stuff.

Like a quality or performance mode.

Anyway, it's probably all academic as I don't think we'll ever see it or a sequel...which is shame as the I.P had real potential.

@Godabove09 All fair points; a lot of this kinda stuff can come down to personal preference and you're bang on, living with one standard for an extended period of time will only make the others more obvious. Blimey, 120fps though... I'm not sure my eyes could keep up! I've been playing a lot of older games on original hardware recently, PS2 and PS3 titles that can just about hit 30fps on their best day, so I'm coming at this from the other direction, but it's still the same feeling.

You're right, I think we're definitely dreaming with regards a remaster of The Order, but sometimes it's nice to dream! And for sure, giving players the option is always the best way to please as many people as possible; in fact, I'd say it's pretty inexcusable when developers don't offer comprehensive options in some games. So many modern remasters have "performance" and "quality" modes so yeah, chuck in some ray-traced puddles and I'd gladly play The Order in all of its 30fps grainy glory!

@RogerRoger I say 120fps, but I think it's fair to say that most people (myself included) couldn't tell the difference between 120 and 100, or 120 and 90.

But, anything 60 or over is fine and going back to The Order and that grainy 30fps (and less in many parts of the game) really did feel so rough and choppy.

The thing is, as I alluded to, and you confirmed and agreed with, if you are playing at 30fps for a while it is not really much of an issue after 10 minutes.

It's that sudden change that makes it such a stark contrast.

I played TLOU 2 on ps4 Pro at 30fps and I had no complaints at all.

Unfortunately, I only have a digital ps5 so my disc version of the game was useless and I wasn't going to pay full AAA on the store just to see at a 60fps...as good as it may have felt.

I only just made it through the original playthrough, such was the plodding nature of the pacing and the relentless darkness of its tone.

@Godabove09 Oh yeah, that's gonna be a huge leap, and even I can tell the difference between 60fps and 30fps most of the time, so I can see where you're coming from. I think you're right, I think a little more uniformity would be welcome, especially since we've now leapt ahead a generation and the PS5's hardware is more than capable of giving players a choice. Sudden change is always jarring.

It's a shame more publishers don't offer free disc-to-digital conversions across the generation gap. One or two have (EA did it with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, I believe) and the good PR more than makes up for any double-dip profits. I hope it doesn't make you regret going digital!

@Godabove09 the difference between 30 and 60 is night and day to me, a real game changer - but I can't tell the difference between 60 and 120!
