@Voltan I'm waiting for the same for Elden Ring, but nothing as yet.

@Voltan I'd guess there's something you can preorder which is limited like an expensive limited edition or a PS5 bundle.

I hope this is as good as the one last year!
Expecting to see some Kratos on Norse Gods action finally, lol.

They don't call it State of Play, so I expect something bigger now lol.

Meanwhile, the Horizon pre-order thing seems to be a whole bunch of nothing so far... digital pre-orders give you bonus skins for Aloy and her spear. No info on any physical editions.

edit: premature post
Here's the details: https://blog.playstation.com/2021/09/02/pre-order-horizon-for...

edit2: the collector editions include a download code instead of a disc - WEIRD
edit3: seeing how there's no upgrade for the PS4 version (would be nice if they change their mind about this but I won't be holding my breath), the code instead of disc somewhat makes sense.
Also: special edition pre-ordered.

Let's hope this 'showcase' is better than the Xbox one for Gamescom....

Not sure if I missed this, but I find it interesting if true. I really liked Gwent in The Witcher 3.

Ray tracing is something that is pretty cool to have on this gen but something it can be so easy to look past.

I saw a post on the Control subreddit about the detail in that game and this is a screenshot with ray tracing on.

Untitled

The level of detail to get the true reflection in someone's eye like that seems incredible to me, especially as it's something you will almost never even notice (unlike reflections in windows or puddles for instance). To get the image I had to zoom in as far as possible and then even more with the "field of view" slider.

Impressive stuff.

@Thrillho Ray Tracing is absolutely amazing I think, but you're right easily missed. My favourite game with it has been Spider-Man Remaster and Miles Morales.

The buildings mixed with ray tracing is very cool. Seeing Spider-Man and the reflection of the city streets on the windows, blew my mind. I remember one scene where you could see the villain in the reflection of Spider-Man's eyes in an intense moment, Spider-Man losing the fight and being gripped by the throat, and it was like a scene from a movie.

@velio84 you're right, 60fps trumps Ray Tracing. Insomniac have done it best, with the middle ground mode, performance RT, which is the one I used for Spider-Man and Rift Apart.

NedStarksGhost

Thrillho

@velio84 @NedStarksGhost Yeah, Insomniac have come up with some sort of witchcraft to combine both modes.

Spider-Man was one of the best examples though with the building reflections and mask reflections too.

Yeah, I’m not sure what’s going on with the FF7R PS5 build. Apparently it doesn’t have ray tracing even in graphics mode. But when I switch back and forth there is clear improvement in the lighting. Characters and environment have more nuance and light at least seems to come from different sources rather than it simply looking like there’s a spotlight on Cloud the whole time that follows him around with the same illumination no matter what, like what most games are like. I usually like the increased fidelity, but it’s not quite as beefed up in this game as in some others. What I’ve done is switch back and forth, trying performance mode for a chapter then graphics mode. I can’t decide what I like better. For times when I’m swinging the camera around a lot then performance is better, but while I’m walking around and having downtime chatting with the party, the graphics mode looks a might better and more crisp and better illuminated, especially in darker settings.

Add to this the lack of much by way of haptics or adaptive triggers and I’m glad I didn’t pay for this upgrade. I really feel like Square Enix was probably just experimenting around with the tech and hopefully FFXVI and FF7Rp2 will have better implementation

The load times though… so fast. Not sure what the PS4’s load and save times were but these are near instantaneous.

@Th3solution I’ve just got going with the Ghost DLC with PS5 upgrade and haven’t noticed too much of a difference graphically with that either, even flicking between settings like yourself.

But similarly the load times are super quick. They weren’t exactly slow playing the game on PS5 before (normally I didn’t have enough time to read the hints on the loading screen) but now it pretty much fades out and straight back in again in your new location.

@Th3solution @Thrillho Just started playing GoT DLC on PS5 myself over the weekend and you are right, there's not a great deal of difference graphically. I've left it on resolution mode as I read that it doesn't actually drop off of 60fps much and it does look incredibly smooth, but it already looked so good anyway it's hard to really top that.

The haptics and adaptive triggers are good though. You can feel the difference when you're on the horse and you cross onto a different surface and when using the bow and arrow it works really well.
