That happened to me once but only once (and I had mine since launch) and I generally don't experience many crashes.

@Thrillho Oof... that’s a kick in the teeth. I hope it fixes itself but it looks like you got a lemon there if it won’t even turn on. The good thing is it’s under warranty but I wonder how long it’s taking Sony to get consoles repaired and back to people given the shortages.

The only thing worse than not being able to find a PS5 is buying one that breaks.

@Th3solution I don’t see it resurrecting now. I’ve done all the cable swapping, long power button holding etc and still nothing. At least it looks like it uploaded my Fallen Order platinum as the final act of it’s too short life.

The PlayStation website has disclaimers all over it that it is taking longer than normal. GAME will only do refunds so I’ve not got much choice but to go to Sony unless I want to go through the lottery of getting hold of another one.

@Voltan I was pretty worried after the first one (weird it didn’t do it at all with Fallen Order) but it is certainly dead to the world now 😢

@Thrillho Oh jeez, that’s terrible. Mad to see how different our consoles are, build quality wise, considering we got them at the same time. Hopefully you get it sorted.

@nessisonett Did you get yours from John Lewis in the end?

I’m most gutted because I’m on leave all of next week so it would have been perfect timing for me to have it!

@Thrillho Yep, there was a drop and I just got incredibly lucky. The funny thing is that I made it to checkout with John Lewis all the way back in November!

@nessisonett Half the PS5 consoles you got were pieces of paper, I wouldn't say that's a great track record of getting high quality consoles!

Sony should step up their game.

@Thrillho are you not getting a second beep when you try to open it in safe mode?

@R1spam It won’t do anything at all, I can’t even turn it on to safe mode.

@Thrillho it absolutely sucks!! My first ps5 had to go back to Very because of constant crashes for refund. Hope you find another soon

@Thrillho Yeah that is not good! Hopefully you can get a replacement sorted. Have you kept your ps4?

@JohnnyShoulder Yeah, I still have my PS4 and thankfully ignored my wife’s calls to box it up once the PS5 was set up

@Thrillho The morale of the story is never listen to your wives! That was one of my fears when I got the console that it would break down. My main fear was the Yodel driver nabbing it for himself! Thankfully none of those things happened.

@Thrillho Your story has convinced me to keep my PS4 hooked up when I get a PS5. I had thought about the redundancy of having a PS4 when the PS5 can do all the things a 4 can do, only better. I think I’m going to also like being able to have two TVs/two rooms as gaming options.

Wow! I'd be gutted and annoyed if I got a 'broken' PS5 - hopefully they sort it out as soon as possible for you.

I tend to keep hold of consoles. I still have my PS3 Phat 60GB, PS3 Slim, PS4 and PS4 Pro too. I still have my OG Xbox, Xbox 360 Slim, Xbox One, XB1S Gears 4 edition and XB1X Project Scorpio edition too. Currently the PS5 and Series X are connected to my main TV with my Pro and X connected to my Bedroom TV.

I got rid of mine but mainly because a friend was looking to buy one. Kept the PS3 around for the longest time though - mostly because it could play audio CDs 😂

@Arugula The reliability of my 4 is quite remarkable. At this point in the last two generations I’d had to replace my PS3 and PS2 due to technical failure. My launch PS4 hasn’t failed me yet.

@Th3solution I had to replace the PSU and the fan in my PS4 Pro after 2 years. Technically they both still worked but they started making weird noises, even in rest mode. It's possible that the failure of one of them caused the failure of the other somehow, as they happened pretty much at the same time.

@Th3solution Well, the PS4 was still set up from doing the data transfer so there was no need to get rid of it so quickly. As an aside, I'd highly recommend getting an ethernet cable to do the data transfer if you don't have one; it only took about 10 mins to get the profile and console data moved across and another 10-15 mins to get the few games I wanted to move across too.

Spoken to customer services and it's just a case of sending it back (for free), they'll look at it and either repair or send a refurbished one out. Apparently, they'll even include a note of what went wrong. Maximum of three weeks which isn't the end of the world but annoying as I have next week off!
