@nessisonett Out of curiosity - how far are you from your console?
I know every console can be different in this regard but I very rarely notice any coil whine from mine. Interestingly, the one time I could clearly hear it was on some game's (I think it was the Guilty Gear Strive beta) loading screen when it faded to white.

@Voltan Maybe about a meter and a half? My TV’s 40” so I sit relatively close to it I guess. I can hear it from across the room though.

@nessisonett Sounds like it's louder than mine then. Maybe you'll stop noticing it after a while

The coil whine on my PS4 is so bad. When I used to have the console in my bedroom, I had to turn it off at the plug at night otherwise it constantly sounded like a car alarm was going off in the distance.

@nessisonett My PS5 is dead quiet apart from at start up and every 2 hours or so with what sounds like the disk drive whirring for about 5 secs. My PS4 on the other hand would sound like it was about to take off during some games.

@Kidfried You mean from the disc drive? Mine sounds like it’s gonna break sometimes, especially if I put Demon’s Souls in. It’s terribly loud.

Do the people who don’t hear any buzzing noise have the console vertical or horizontal?

@nessisonett mine is horizontal and I defo hear a little bit of noise. My launch one was wisper quiet so can tell the difference. I put a thick rubber mouse mat underneath my stand and it has made a bit of a difference. Vertical by all accounts is quieter.

Mine's horizontal and I do hear the fan whirring when I mute audio (it's very quiet though). Coil whine - I guess it's there but it's rarely audible to me.
The disc drive is definitely the loudest part.

@R1spam @Voltan Interesting, I was thinking it might be to do with the the vibration of the fan making the vertical stand give off the noise. Clearly not!

@nessisonett Horizontal. One thing i have noticed is that the stand is a bit pony, the slightest touch seems to displace it.

Does anyone think the Gollumn LOTR games looks like an old forgotten PS2 game? It's existence is a genuine mystery to me.

Mine are vertical and neither makes any obnoxious noises. Disc one does initially when putting the blu-ray in but for the most part they are silent thankfully.

Mine is horizontal and silent apart from the system beep when it wakes up. I can hear the disk drive spin up every hour or so when with the is a disk in but the drive isn’t any louder than the one on my PS2 and that’s constant.

Seems like PS5 are really variable. We know from the teardowns they’re not internally consistent some have fans with more blades and others. Compounding the fact that the effect of the silicon lottery is greater at higher clocks and the PS5 is clocked really high.

@nessisonett I just purchased The Pedestrian. I'm technically in the middle of a couple other games and I usually don't jump from one to another but I just felt like playing some light puzzles to clear my head. Anyway, the first thing I noticed it's that the PS5 version is half the size of the PS4 version. Even a game like this

@Voltan I know, it’s such a brilliant innovation!

@nessisonett Really loving the presentation of the game so far. Both the visual style and the music.

@Voltan The soundtrack was way better than I thought it would be but yeah, the graphics are also lovely. It’s really impressive how much they got out of such a basic concept.

I just noticed something in one of the Push Square articles also was wondering if someone can confirm (and I apologize for always asking weird PS5 questions) —

If you have a physical copy of a game that has a free upgrade to the PS5 version, once you download the upgrade, are you not able to ever purchase the actual PS5 digital version?

It seems a silly thing to worry about; why would I ever want to buy a game that I already have, right? Well, there have been times that I’ve converted over to digital from physical. Also, it actually is not uncommon that I’ve owned a physical copy, then if the digital is given out on PS Plus I sell my physical copy knowing I can always download the digital.

Surely if you delete the game data from the physical version then you can once again have the option to purchase or claim the PS5 version from the store? But I guess since you’ve already “bought” it by virtue of downloading for free via your disc, then you’ll forever be tied to having to keep the old PS4 disc as the key to access it? What if I convert later to a digital only PS5? I guess I’d be locked out of ever playing that particular game?

@Th3solution I have a PS4 disc for Sackboy, upgraded to the PS5 version on my console. I just fired up the PS app on my phone to check and it's listed at full price so looks like you can purchase it.
I don't have any other upgraded games to check if it's true for others as well but looks like the problem you described doesn't exist.
