@TraCuz- Thanks, I think I better understand the system. I’m sure it’s pretty self explanatory when using the console.

So do you miss having the gameplay tips cycle through the loading screens while you wait for the games to load up? I’m sure I won’t miss it, but I hope games have easier ways to pull up the instructional tips because sometimes I do learn things from those loading screens 😅

@Th3solution I think that Nioh found a decent middle ground. The moment you die you'll find yourself at a "tips screen" where you can either scroll thru or press x to spawn

@Th3solution I found the tips cards useful in Demon's Souls, Astro's Playroom and Maneater as it would give you non-spoilery hints about what to do next in the area you are on and on boss fights (obviously if you've not seen the boss yet it would be a spoiler lol).

And for Demon's Souls you could just select a card and you would be transported to any shrine (lamp/bonfire)you've visited previously. So instead of loading up the game, making your way to a shrine, going back to the nexus and travelling to the world from a world stone, you just jump straight to the world from the PS5 menu. However, as the games load so quickly on the PS5 it is not massive deal breaker but still nice to have.

@johncalmc The only crashes I've experienced are from games like in Cyberpunk 2077, and that would only be a soft crash to the PS5 home screen.

I had a quite a few crashes playing Watch Dog Legions during the week of release, but apart from that, it's been fine.

Other PS5 naive questions —
Can you switch your external HDD back and forth between your PS4 and PS5? I’m not sure if I’ll keep my PS4 when I get a PS5, but I think I might keep it in my bedroom and would still play occasionally in bed while the PS5 is out at the main TV. It shouldn’t be a problem to unplug and plug it on, back and forth right?

@Th3solution Yes. Obviously just ensure you have either turned off the console you are removing the device from or manually eject the device using the relevant option in the menu. I no longer have my PS4 but have used it on my Dad's console a few times since I've had my PS5.

It's fine. I think any issues were massively overblown. Mine crashed twice with Miles Morales, and that was just after release. Nothing since. Using rest mode, and external hard drive all the time.

Data transfer.
It can take a while for games. If you have an external HDD start the process of transfering all installed games onto that before you get a PS5, then you don't need to transfer them, and can just plug in the HDD to the PS5.
For the save data, and profiles, it's just a few minutes. Not long at all.

Here’s a question for you lucky dogs who have a PS5 — what’s your experience with the game help feature of PS5?

Just been playing Marquette, and damn it was useful on that. You could just hit the PS button, and it shows a list of objectives. Select one, and you can see a video and list of hints on what to do to solve the puzzle.

It was great on Astro too, as it would show you a video of where any missing collectibles were.

@johncalmc the one I have at the minute is great and hasn't crashed once in two months. Very stable, though I haven't used an external drive. I got one at launch though and it had real problems with constant crashes on multiple ps5 games. Never used an external or rest mode, came out the box like that. Sony did a decent job but like anything, there is always the occasional dodgy one.

@Th3solution You actually can't switch your exHDD from PS4 to PS5/PS5 to PS4 each other without formatting them first.

@TraCuz- That is not my experience. Formatting a drive erases all the data which kinda defeats the purpose of having one in the first place.

@JohnnyShoulder Right, but when I hooked up my exHDD to my PS5 with PS4 data still on it, it forced me to format it.

@TraCuz- Woah, really? That’s a game changer for me. With the small internal drive I’d like to be able to switch back and forth for my PS4 games and just have PS5 games on the internal. Of course, I guess I can just ditch my PS4 but I was warming up to the idea of keeping it for the bedroom.

Anyone else have to reformat the ext HDD when they brought it over from their PS4?

@TraCuz- Sounds like there was a fault with yours somewhere rather than it being how all external hard drives are when used with a ps4 and ps5. It even says on the PlayStation support pages that there is no need format the drive when switching the drive to another console.

@Th3solution You should be fine, as long as you disconnect the drive properly before removing it from the console it should be OK.

@JohnnyShoulder ok thanks! Here’s hoping [if I can ever get my hands on one] that I don’t have the same issues as @TraCuz- because I have like nearly 2 TB of PS4 games on there.
