@kyleforrester87 Yeah, the tanker section is great. So many moments that were just incredible for what consoles were able to do at the time.

I’ve said before that I got every single dog tag in the game back in the day. I still get nightmares now about beating the Harrier boss fight on extreme difficulty.

@Thrillho I also got all the dog tags! Tell me about those bosses, Vamp was tough too. I got to the end on Euro Extreme but in the end it was the Solidus torture section that beat me, I couldn’t press Square fast enough 🤷‍♂️

Looking into the above a bit, I’m reading that apparently if you look to the left while being choked it is easier as your neck is in a less effective position - that’s some attention to detail right there, and wasn’t in the guide book! Also, apparently you can hold triangle to get through without losing health at all 🤷‍♂️ not verified that one either! Sounds like BS to me.

And those 30 Rays at the end 😂

@kyleforrester87 The Ray fight on extreme is almost meditative as I just remember getting into a zone of timing attacks to keep one stunned while hitting another.

It was a pretty lengthy fight though..

@LN78 yeah, I don’t think there were any special requirements to unlock it - just complete on any difficulty as far as I remember..! Didn’t have its own list of dog tags though.

I wish we'd get a definitive answer on the remakes/remasters/rewhatevers. I know we won't but if they're not happening, I'd just like a flat-out "It's not happening". Every single time I go to replay the series a new rumour emerges so I put it off. I don't have time to replay them twice but would love a remake/remaster. (Plus it avoids having to set up multiple old consoles etc. which isn't practical right now)

MGS is still my favourite. So many memories of playing through it with my brother, who is sadly no longer with us, so I'd love to try to recapture those memories sometime soon. I think I've still got my PS1 memory card with our save on it - both the stealth suit and bandana.

And if they are wanting to continue the franchise, I'd either start with MGS or MGS3 and give us a twist on the ending. A bit like FF7Remake. I love Hideo Kojima but realistically we don't live in an era where franchises end and stay that way. So establish a new timeline and try some newish rather than just launching MGS6.

@ScarletSpidey it’s probably one of those things that isn’t strictly off the burner, so why come out and say it’s never going to happen? As a fan your very best bet is to just assume it’s not happening until there is an announcement - plans are always subject to change at the end of the day!

Look at how FF7 remake has (and continues) to play out since the 00’s.

@kyleforrester87 I totally get it, that's why I said know we won't get that message. But I only play about 2-3 hours a week on average. If I replayed the whole series that would probably be my gaming for well over a year. So I'd be devastated if they then announced a remake/remaster. This is situation is unique to me, I get that, it's just where I find myself. It's the series I most want to replay.

@kyleforrester87 It's Push Square, silly.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

Chalk up another user who's a Metal Gear fan thanks to those generous freebies back in the day. I think I still have that demo disc from the Official PS2 Magazine knockin' around somewhere, the one which had most of the MGS2 prologue on it. The fact that it let you fight Olga and get all the way to the other side of the tanker's engine room (and the fact that the gameplay was so detailed and open to experimentation) meant that I could play it more than I played some of my "proper" games.

That magazine was one of the few that kept the secret about Raiden out of its review, and didn't spoil it for its readers. As a result, I was so confused when I finally got a full copy of MGS2 because, when I booted it up, I answered truthfully and selected that I hadn't played the previous game. I was all, "Where the heck has the tanker gone, and why does 'Snake' sound different?!"

"We want different things, Crosshair. That doesn't mean that we have to be enemies."

I spent hours and hours in Ground Zeros, PP in comparison was almost a bit too big. I'd say I enjoyed GZ more, overall, funnily enough.

Yep, I'd agree with that. As short as Ground Zeroes is, it has such a high degree of replayability, and I love the concentrated fan service of its 'Déjà Vu' mission. Its simplicity is its charm. I can always find a spare day to play it, whereas I'd struggle to clear my calendar for The Phantom Pain.

@kyleforrester87 @RogerRoger interesting… I haven’t actually played Ground Zeroes. As I’ve mentioned before, I came to the series real late and as a result, I always just considered Ground Zeroes a demo for MGSV 🤔 maybe I should reconsider huh

**** DLC!

kyleforrester87

@RogerRoger funny because the whole time I was playing GZ I was so hyped about transferring all of that gameplay into the massive PP environment. It was a good lesson on less is more at the end of the day.

@colonelkilgore GZ did have some story beats to it to slightly bridge the gap between Peace Walker and TPP from what I remember.

It was a completely separate map from TPP but introduced a lot of mechanics that the game would use and also had loads of (non lore) sort of side missions that used the small map really well.

I enjoy GZ. Skull Face looked really terrifying as a villain in this game, both of how he appeared and how he attacked the mother base. Also, it seems that Big Boss' character shift is completed. It is clear that they want to save Chico, not because he is a friend, but because he has intel on the mother base. Also, it seems that they want to save Paz to torture her themselves to get info on Cipher... Crazy stuff...

@kyleforrester87 Yeah Skull Face is the dullest villain, second only to Coleman maybe.

If you spend 10 hours of your life listening to the tapes about him you could see something deeper there and how he is bizarrely retconned in some main events of Metal Gear, so I get why consider him "interesting", even though the allegiances still make no sense.

What I hate is that he is defeated with the most dump way imaginable, by Huey shooting him in a random cutscene like a maniac while the Phantom does not talk AT ALL and Kaz is just standing there after having shot Skull Face in the legs??... This is just dump. I get you are supposed to think that now that Kaz caught Skull Face and got his revenge it didn't solve anything, and revenge is futile? I don't know, the only think I felt is that Huey became a madman.
