@velio84 To clarify, I hate microtransactions etc. and I'm not just dismissing them. It's just that they don't change what I'm doing in any way whatsoever so I'm not feeling it. I'm sure that real racing games fans are probably irritated by the microtransactions for ruining the endgame grind etc. whatever, but for me I don't care and will likely never be going for those cars anyway so it makes no difference to me.

@velio84 Thanks, It's reassuring to know it's not just me struggling.
I think we've been duped into a false sense of our driving skills by other more forgiving games.

I picked gt7 up over the weekend pre-owned. Really enjoying it so far, but it's disheartening to know I'll never collect anywhere near all the cars in the game, and with the likes of the mclaren f1 being 18.5 million credits, it's a joke. No way will I pay for microtransactions. Don't know how true this is via reddit as I'm new to the game, but I read to buy that car in credits would be around £125, or to grind for the credits would be over 400 races on a particular track. For one car - ridiculous.

Really sad what Polyphony Digital/Sony has done here.

It seems they really want to go down this MTX, csgo skins, Fifa, always-on route. It's disappointing that they don't realise that lots of the people who actually gravitate towards Sony consoles actually don't want this. Since Kaz Hirai retired I fear the senior leadership is now packed with MBA number crunching types that you would see at EA or Activision! No sense of what makes Playstation special and why its been my exclusive console from PS1-4. It's the depth and quality of the games that made Playstation what it is. The CD-Rom and DVD were always Playstations secret weapon that enabled Playstation to have large amounts of content with depth.

They can't even both to include a decent amount of the original circuits on release only Trial Mountain and Deep Forest Raceway. I bought this game under the assumption that more of these circuits were available.

To me its just GT Sport 2 with some MTX nonsense.

Some games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5 and even dare I say Final Fantasy 16 look great but its really concerning to see this happening to Gran Turismo. I hope this is not a trend and we get back to what makes Playstation Playstation!

I couldn't care less about all this outrage if I am honest. I'd have bought GT7 already but I don't want to have to split by gaming time between it and Elden Ring. Looking forward to picking it up soon though. I know already I'll never spend a penny on microtransactions.

How does the game play with the Dualsense? If I do get the game I'd rather use my pad and save money for PSVR2, rather than shell out for a racing wheel.

@kyleforrester87 I feel the same way. I’d buy the game to race more than collect the cars. It would also be a longer term thing for me, something to play one or two races an evening and that sort of thing. Definitely wouldn’t be spending money on MTs.

I do feel a little betrayed by this game. Of the big 3 (HFW, ER, GT7) to come out early 2022, GT7 was where I was leaning toward buying during the launch period. I came close to running out and buying it this last weekend, but then I read all this and I’m definitely waiting now. Seems like ER or HFW are smarter buys.

I’m not an over-reactor on such things but if there are actually cars that the game literally won’t give you access to because it caps your in-game wallet and forces you to make up the difference with real world MTX…? I think that’s starting to draw the line. Every GT game I’ve played before (and I’ve played 4 or 5 of them) had some grinding, but nothing that made it impossible to achieve or obtain something without spending real money.

I mean, I get it. If I remember correctly, I didn’t obtain every single car in past GT games. I’m sure the game is fine without buying a McLaren, but I never remember being locked out of getting a car if I want to work for it.

Does Elden Ring have some armor that you have to grind for 400 hours for? Or pay $150?

I’m really torn right now. We’ll see how Polyphony Digital responds. If the answer is that GT7 is going to be a live-service game where you have to wait and participate in their special events on their timeframe rather than being able to play on my own, then I don’t think I can get behind it. I’m wired more for single player complete experiences.

@Th3solution Yeah, I’m same as you in that GT7 was pretty much a guaranteed purchase before all this. The problem is that currency value is intrinsically tied to MTX value. It’ll never not be shady while they allow you to buy currency. Sport was intentionally live service inspired while this was supposed to be a return to proper CarPG progression. Which evidently it isn’t. It’s a shame but if it’s all sorted a couple years down the line like Battlefront 2, maybe I’ll get it then.

@nessisonett I skipped GT Sport for this very reason. And DriveClub. The whole live-service thing just isn’t my cup o’ tea. At least not at a full $70 price point. I played Dirt 5 and got some enjoyment from it, and it’s littered with cars and events only accessible behind a paywall, but I played it for “free” through PS Plus. As a free/cheap driving game distraction, it was fine, but I’d never have wanted to buy the game full price.

I keep reading that GT7 is basically a slightly better version of GT Sport. Since I never played it, I’m considering just buying an old copy of Sport on the cheap instead. I was curious to experience the DualSense features though, but I when I can get a used copy of Sport for $10, it’s tempting to just forget about GT7 altogether if it’s basically the same game otherwise. Or I might finally try one of the Need For Speed games. I haven’t played one of those in ages and it seems like there was a couple available from prior PS Plus offerings.

@Th3solution I know you probably won't do it but if you ever decide to buy an Xbox, I seriously recommend giving the Forza series a go. I've played both Gran Turismo and Forza and personally, I vastly prefer Forza, both Motorsport and Horizon. These games just never disappoint, they're always a blast to play. Sadly, Forza Motorsport 1-4 aren't available via BC on Series X but you can at least play Motorsport 5-7 via BC (even though I recommend skipping 5 due to its awfully lengthy career mode, I recently played through 6 and it's much better). Forza Horizon 1-5 are all playable on Series X via BC and they're awesome open world racing games. Horizon specifically is my favourite racing series of all time, it's just pure chaos and fun.

I just feel like if you're a racing game fan, you absolutely need to give Forza a try.

@LtSarge It’s not completely off the table; if I ever consider dipping my toes into that world then Forza is going to be one exclusive I’ll need to try because the praise has been pretty consistent for the series. It’s the one genre that Sony can’t seem to get quite up to speed with (no pun intended 😛) to catch MS’s Forza. Alas, I’m still without a Xbox or gaming PC for now.

As another alternative to GT, I have Wreckfest sitting in my library to try out. Not quite the same as GT of course, but might get me my ‘vroom, vroom’ fix anyways. 😄

@Th3solution Sounds good mate. I've played so much Forza Motorsport that I absolutely love racing games now, even racing sims. I'm considering checking out franchises like Dirt and Grid, and I've also played Need For Speed Payback for a while and that was great fun. Might have to check out other NFS titles, including Most Wanted on Vita.

I've just bought the closest version to my car in this game, a BMW but it is left hand drive, is there a setting to switch to RHD? I've looked everywhere

Can't think of anything good to put here just yet, watch this space...

So I finished the game and it kind of comes out of the blue. Looking through the circuits they could have easily increased the career mode section. Kind of feel cheated. Paid £70 for this and it kind of just ends. At menu 39!!!

Anyway more importantly it is now very difficult to earn good money and looking at the ridiculous prices of cars, It's too much of a gap. Im beginning to see why everyone is up in arms. I am going to sporadically run the daily mileage here on in, hopefully drop the cars with the tickets you get. Terrible end game truth be told.

@Kairu They don't seem interested in doing that though. The last update makes it pretty clear that they'd rather you spent money on microtransactions than make it more reasonable for people who don't want to.

Not saying the game isn't still really good overall if you just ignore microtransactions and care more about racing than collecting cars, but it still is a shame they had to open that can of worms for their latest in an iconic series.

@Kairu You are right that it is what it is. I also highly doubt I would worry about collecting a bunch of cars if I was playing it, so I would probably at least somewhat take back what I said last week (in this thread I believe) that I wouldn't even play this if I got it for free because of the BS.

I'd probably enjoy it actually since I'd care more about the races, but there's definitely no time for me to play this properly and I've yet to ever actually finish a Gran Turismo game (I'm more of an arcade racer guy). Maybe someday down the road when it's a lot cheaper.

@Kairu you are absolutely obliterating the licence tests. How you getting those times! Well done bro.

I agree that the end game car collecting section is really bad. I finished the game and don't have a single car in the the 2nd/3rd or 4th tier. I ran a Daytona endurance event over 40 minutes and got about 40k. It's not enough.

Just read a statement via twitter saying we can expect 1 million credits as a thank you/apology, and a patch in early April adding more events and better balanced payouts - some good news at least
