@JudgeDredd@Kairu thanks for the input. I really prefer chase, never tried the hood view, but yeah I think might try to stick to cockpit as long as I can. One thing I really dislike is the inability to turn off the driver positions graphic in top left corner. It really obstructs the rear view and don't at all understand this oversight. Technically it can be turned off but then this gets rid of all on screen info which is expert territory right there.

@Elodin Great to hear. I'm sure you'll love the game as all of us who've been playing on Sundays do. Even the licence tests can be really addictive and make you want to push yourself to get a better time.
Early on thoughts of this game. It's great fun, temptation to shave a sec here and there is addicting, and I am possibly the worst driver this game has ever seen. Hopefully I'll be able to clean my driving up before I join the Sunday fun (if the time frames workout).
Question about the game (I see that I can grab it for $40 at my local store so I’m considering it) —
I think I heard there are assist sliders, which make the game more approachable for casual racers, but if one enables assist with braking, turning, etc, does it lock you out of certain content? Like, I assume there’s some kind of limits on assists allowed in online races. Or is the idea that you learn the braking and cornering skills over time with the assist on that by the time you’re ready to race online that you don’t need the assist?
I guess my question in a nutshell is - do any of you all use substantial assists and does it ruin your experience to do so?
@Th3solution I don't think any of the assists lock you out of any of the content or online racing except if you joined a private lobby and the host specified it.
You can certainly race in sport mode with as many or few assists as you like, same goes for the single player content.
@MatthewJP Awesome. Thanks for the info. I wonder what’s the difference between racing with full assists versus someone who is racing straight up but is really skilled? Surely skill trumps the assists when it matters? I’m imagining that assists mainly just keep you from spinning out and ending up in the grass at every hairpin turn.

@Kairu Good to know. I was wondering how things might go if I just crank up all the assists and run around smoking everyone online. Looks like first of all that is quite unlikely to happen, and second of all people don’t mind. 😄
Even if I do buy it I’m not sure if I’ll really get into the whole online racing thing. I mainly like the single player aspects.

@Th3solution
I think most of the assists slightly slow you down but make some cars easier to control/keep on the road. I play with all of them off but occasionally use traction control if I need it. I would recommend learning to play without them but put them on it necessary, it's probably easier than learning with all assists on and then trying to cope without them.

@Th3solution I started off using some of the assists e.g. traction control but have gradually turned them off and now just use ABS. You'll definitely learn how to drive better whilst you go through the single player content, especially if you do things like the licence tests. Some cars do need some assists on as otherwise they can be underivable e.g. some of the older Group 1 cars but you will very rarely have to drive those as part of the single player stuff anyway.
Turning off the assists and getting used to the handling of the cars along with getting to know the circuits will eventually see you getting faster and everything will be a lot easier.
@render figure if nothing else my times might serve as encouragement for others to participate even if they aren't all that skilled.

@render@Kairu what time do you race on Sundays? For me it would be cst time. I usually do family stuff until 830 to 9pm. Then I play for couple hours. Curious if I can make this work.
Welp. What am I thinking? What in the world am I thinking? I blame this thread….
I saw a copy of the 25th Anniversary Steelbook PS5 version for $42 and so I just bought it. It’s pre-owned but I figured that was a really good deal and didn’t want to pass it by. It still has the bonus DLC content codes inside. I wonder if the original owner already used them or not. One of the codes looks to be for a PS4 digital version of the game, 1,000,000 CR in-game credit, the official digital soundtrack, the Toyota GR Yaris, and 30 different PSN avatars. The other code is for Toyota Castol TOM’s Supra, Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Concept (Stealth), and the Porsche 917K Living Legend as well as 100,000 CR in-game credit on the PS5 version of the game.
I wonder if someone bought this, just used the code to get the game on PS4, and then sold back the PS5 disc. If so, I hope to at least be able to take advantage of the PS5 codes.
Pretty stoked about finding the game for a decent price with the steelbook, regardless.
