Can anyone attest to whether the issues of the PS5 version have been corrected?

Between ER, HFW, and GT7 - I was waiting on the games getting patched for their respective PS5 issues. For ER, the frame studders. For HFW the shimmer issue on performance mode. And for GT7 the poor balancing that pushed microtransactions.

With the announcement of HFW new PS5 patch, it’s 2/3 so far. So I was wondering if this game has been “fixed” yet.

@Th3solution it depends what you mean by fixed! If you have a vrr compatible TV, then with the ps5 auto vrr mode on it's a fair bit better. Is it perfect? Hell no, there is still texture pop in, particularly if there are other environmental effects such as snow, mist etc there can be frame dips. It depends on your sensitivity to it but it will never be "fixed". They seem to be happy with weapons balance, boss and npc behaviour (though who knows what the pvp scene will uncover for weapons that might need a minor balance). Is it anything like ds3 or bloodborne performance? No its performance is significantly better. Does the performance get in the way of it being one of the best games ever made, not really. If you liked the demon souls remake, the combat, boss and world design has evolved so much it would be a shame to miss ER for some texture pop in and the odd frame dip (and weird frame pacing if you don't have vrr that is a feature of every from game). If your really sensitive to that, I understand the ps4 version played backwards compatable on ps5 has the least issues there but I haven't tried and can't vouch for it.

I finally admitted defeat and summoned to beat malenia! I got her down to final third of her health bar in second phase a few times with my mimic tear, particularly if you stun lock her but I just couldn't get over the line without help! Even then it took a few goes with some of the folk I summoned getting wiped out first phase. I still think nameless King might be tougher but toughest boss in elden ring so far by a long way.

@Th3solution Personally in the grand scheme of things, the issues are relatively minor. I think they are still there, but I hardly notice it anymore. If you managed to play Bloodborne to completion, I think you will be fine with Elden Ring.

@R1spam @JohnnyShoulder Ok, thanks guys. Unfortunately my TV is not VRR compatible.

I’m usually not one to allow technical performance to hinder my enjoyment of a game. However the further into the PS5 generation we get the more cracks in the foundation I notice with older games. Having enjoyed Bloodborne a ton (and DeS Remake, but it’s technical performance was fantastic anyways) I’m sure it’s not a deal breaker for this game to have a few odd hiccups. So long as there’s not game crashes or messes with saves.

I’m still quite immersed with a backlog so it’s not imminent that I’ll pull the trigger unless I see the game for a nice sale price. Otherwise I’m content to continue with the games I have lined up. The HFW patch was just what prompted my inquiry, since the two games will probably forever be linked in my mind.

@Th3solution Pop in can be bad but it was never game breaking for me. I had a couple of moments of the game freezing and then catching up again but it was also pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

@R1spam Nice one! It wouldn’t be so bad without the fact she can absorb health even when blocking but it’s not a fun fight.

And some people you summon are just ridiculous. I like to contribute something to the fight!

@Thrillho yeah, me too! I saw a summon sign for "let me solo her" and ignored it as I don't need to stand back and let someone do it for me!! Someone with a bleed build with my magic build with bleed did the trick!

@Th3solution ooft if you've played bloodborne the performance is sooo much better than that!!! I'm looking forward to hfw, really enjoyed the first game and got it for my bday earlier in the year but its going to have to wait a few months as I don't have another huge rpg in me for a while! Elden ring is epic though, if you enjoyed bloodborne and demon souls remake, decent chance this will really hit for you.

@R1spam I’m pretty excited to try ER. I do have Dark Souls 3 sitting on the shelf in the backlog. Picked up the Fire Fades edition a while ago on the cheap, so I might have to play it first simply because I have it. But I’ve been known to impulse buy from time to time and ignore games I already own 😅. As character flaws go, I guess I could have it worse.

@Th3solution DS3 is a really good game, there are some levels that are really solid (cathedral of the deep and irithyl valley really stands out) and there are some great bosses (dancer of the boreal Valley, pontiff sulyvhan and nameless King are s tier for me). However, playing lots of souls games feels like reading lots of books by the same author. You start to see where background research, style and structure are reused and repurposed. As good as ds3 is, I'd almost be tempted to say just skip it and play elden ring. I definitely don't think I could go back to the more traditional linear style having played the open world version. Interested to hear others thoughts on that though and never played the dlc for ds3, which is meant to be great and on the version you have 👍

@R1spam Yeah, that’s a pervasive dilemma with some series — whether to jump ahead to the more modernized and improved game, knowing going back will be hard, or play in a relative release order so as to be able to enjoy each entry better.

Of course each game has its fans, and I’ve seen a few (not many though) people say that they prefer the older style Dark Souls layout better than the ER open world.

Given my limited gaming time, I could see myself jumping straight to the more highly praised and popular ER if I wait too long. We’ll see.

Th3solution

@Thrillho Lol, careful now. The ire of the FromSoft fans might rain down upon you. 😂

Having only played the two From games (BB and DeS), I didn’t feel like they were too samey. But the 3 DS games definitely seem pretty closely iterated from one another. 😬

@Th3solution @Thrillho it's pretty much heresy but I gave up playing the dark souls remaster having played ds3 first because of how similar I felt they were 😬

@Thrillho It’s true but it’s not always a bad thing! Elden Ring did feel so, so fresh with the open world being as interesting as it was though.

Thrillho

@Th3solution @R1spam @nessisonett @Mega-Gazz I post it slightly tongue in cheek but it did make me laugh.

There’s no problem with them using a similar formula for different games. Obviously DeS to DS3 are quite similar but Bloodborne and Elden Ring use the mechanics in new and interesting ways (I never played Sekiro).

I thought ER was amazing for the world it created but I did feel some relief when the game went a bit more linear in places. The story is still nonsense though really

Uh oh. Now the FromSoft fans are really going to storm your door. 😅
