I finally got the Rivers of Blood as well and managed to get it straight to the top level. The special attack on it is pretty great but my bloody Godskin Peeler still seems like a better overall weapon though.
@Thrillho Well done mate! I actually really struggled with Fire Giant, took me a couple of days to best him...
RoB is astoundingly punishing, even after some of the patching/nerfs etc. The scale with Arcane is pretty deadly, alongside an amazing weapon art.
Are you working a bleed build? I had a fully spec'd RoB, but was leaning more towards Eleanora's Poleblade - do you have this?
EP is probably not as 'OP' as RoB... but EP weapon art can land many multiple hits in quick succession, allowing you to get a nice proc on bleed status!
The end is in sight for you now, are you gunning for the Plat?!
@CJD87 I managed second go. Not too tricky with me, Mimic Tear, and Iron Fist Alexander. My Godskin Peeler was more useful than RoB as the latter has fire damage which didn’t do much against him!
And yeah, I’m a bleed build with my +25 Godskin Peeler having Bloody Slash on it. It’s a pretty cool weapon, especially when two-handed but I do use my shield quite a lot. It’s a great one for the Mimic Tear though, even if he does overdo Bloody Slash and use up his health..
Because I’ve used that so much, I have quite low FP levels as I have barely raised that stat so the RoB special uses it up pretty quickly. I must have the Poleblade but not used it.
And I’ll probably go for the plat. My last couple of sessions have been going back to pick up legendary weapons, spells, talismans that I’d missed. I only have one weapon and talisman left to get and then need to remember to back up my save near the end of the game to get all the endings!
@Thrillho I ran a bleed build also, and found it to be a lot of fun - particularly once Arcane scaling got patched, and made RoB absolutely unstoppable ha!
The Platinum is entirely do-able, and like most people I'd highly recommend scumming the endings! (unless you yearn for additional playthroughs)
One of the endings involves some incredibly frustrating 'platforming' elements, so get ready to rage-proof your gaming room mate ha
Enjoy though, such an awesome game and I have certainly struggled to find something to fill the void afterwards (Returnal DLC trophies kept me cosy straight after, which was really great actually)
I beat the Godskin Duo last night and then went back to finish off Volcano Manor having done all the contracts. I went through the secret area but eventually just spoke to Tanith to get to Rykard. The unique weapon for that fight was pretty cool and I went and upgraded it to +9 and used Mimic Tear with it as well which made the fight pretty easy.
@Thrillho Yes mate I polished off ER probably a few weeks back, and honestly loved it.
I'm so excited for what comes next out of FromSoftware, as I feel the overwhelmingly positive reception to ER will give them the confidence to continue their 'zero-compromise' approach towards great output. I would love a Sekiro 2... but probably a pipe dream!
The contracts side-quest via Volcano Manor is so good isn't it, and Rykard is another great spectacle fight. I'm quite jealous you're still playing, as the feeling of discovering everything for the first time is pretty unrivalled.
Enjoy... and definitely go for the Platinum, not grindy at all if you're OK with scumming the endings
@CJD87 Ah, I somehow got you mixed up with @R1spam !
The invasion missions are cool from Volcano Manor. I’m not going to do the one Patches gives you though as a) it’s Patches and b) the target is someone who I’ve summoned to help with a few bosses
@Kairu I’ll probably still be trying to complete the game by the time DLC comes out at the speed I’m going..
@Jimmer-jammer I managed to spare him and found him in volcano manner later. The npc questlines in this game are nuts! I finally looked at a guide for the platinum and there are a couple of npcs I hadn't even met!!
@Thrillho haha I think @CJD87 smashed through the game a while ago, though I am bearing down on what surely must be the end of the game. I've finally made it to the consecrated snowfield and look like I'm on course for the platinum l, though I'll have to save scum for endings
I honestly can't wait to hear how everyone gets on with one of the particular endings which involves a ton of platforming/jumping action.... honestly makes Malenia looks like a cakewalk!!
Ha, I didn't realise so many of you were such cold blooded murderers when it came to Patches! That means plenty of you will have missed out on him pushing you off a cliff in Mt Gelmir too then..
And there really is a ridiculous number of NPCs and associated quests. I have absolutely no idea how people have managed to naturally complete some quest lines. As I said before, I had a window open on my laptop with tabs for all the different NPCs as I came across them and it got to an utterly ludicrous number. Iron Fist Alexander has been one of my favourites though!
Brother Corhyn and Goldmask's joint quest line has been pretty funny and I think I still have one part of that to go.
As for the game itself, I'm really into the home stretch at last now! Maliketh is down after a few goes and I've got all the legendary gear trophies so it's just the last couple of bosses and the different endings to go now!
Ordina liturgical Town is insane. I've lit 2 of the 4 flames (please for the love of all that's holy tell me they stay lit after you die) but I'm not in the mood for dealing with frustration of that level tonight!!! I'm putting on guardians of the galaxy and having a break.
@Thrillho sorry, I must have missed that one. I'm right there with you though, never played ds1 but the platforming plus archers combo does remind me of anor Londo in ds3. I'm going to take your advice and watch a guide!
Quite a mix of bosses at the end and the final one was one of the most infuriating as I spent more time sprinting around the arena than actually fighting.
The hidden dragon boss in the Crumbling Ruins was cool but how the hell anyone found it without a guide, I have no idea.
And that platforming section to get the final ending can properly gtf.
I also have absolutely no idea what was going on with the story and all three ending were rather dramatically anticlimactic.
@Thrillho Well done man! So satisfying when the Plat trophy pops... especially after that platforming section haha
I agree with your comments on the story beats... I certainly don't need to be 'spoon fed' a narrative, but it would be nice if FS make their next game with a more cohesive plot ala Sekiro
Elden Ring was a great ride for sure, and 140hrs is amazing value for money right? You hitting NG+ now or putting aside to tackle backlog? I warn you, it is very difficult finding something to fill the void and I bounced off a few things!
@Thrillho congrats!! Enjoy some Vaati vids. I feel like I've got a bit more of the story (I think, ill watch a youtube video at the end and probably have missed tons) as I've went through than ds3 but less than bloodborne. As the number of items, bosses and areas increases, I think this style of story telling gets harder.
