I cleared out some more of the Hero Grave locations this morning and god, I really hate those chariots!
After that, I pushed on East from Leyndell, having beaten Morgott, and made it to the end of the Forbidden Lands which was a cool location after the city.
I took a detour to beat the Fell Twins as well. A cool aesthetic to that fight but I’m not sure it was meant to be so easy with me and Mimic Tear bro using Bloody Slash to max effect
The talisman you get from the boss in the Leyndell catacombs is great for a blood build too.
@Jimmer-jammer I’ve had to look at a guide for a couple as they’re so obtuse.
The one outside Leyndell has a bit where you have to raise a platform which causes an extra chariot to appear so three all crash together and the path to the boss is cleared
@Jimmer-jammer Yeah, I think I picked that weapon up already.
I think it’s possible to drop weapons and items in co-op for someone to pick up though which can trigger the trophy so I don’t know if that would be an option if you don’t end up doing a full NG+ run.
Well, I've made it to the mountain top of the gods after literally melting the black blade kindred with the comet azur spell! Between that, my level 10 mimic tear and my +8 moonveil blade, I feel like I've been making some real progress last few sessions.
This may be the wrong place to post this considering the title, but I previously posted it on reddit and got torn to shreds, and was wondering what people here thought about it.
Elden Ring just hasn't clicked for me at all.
I don't have a ton of time for games, but after buying it around launch and having put 60 hours into the game, I'm near the end of elden ring. I just have the secret "hardest boss" (no spoilers for anyone) and the final boss left. And overall my thoughts are...it's alright?
Maybe it's just my expectations, my lack of time to explore the overworld, or a mixture of other things, but the game has just never fully gelled with me. I didn't play from software games until about two years ago, and since then have played dark souls, sekiro, and Bloodborne, with Bloodborne being the most recent and one of my favourite games of all time.
Elden Ring just hasn't connected with me in the same way. It doesn't have the amazing interconnected world of dark souls (I love metroidvanias so that helped!), the tight combat of sekiro, or the...everything of Bloodborne (that game felt like it was made for me).
I keep waiting for elden ring to click but it hasn't, and I think I finally need to accept it probably won't? I appreciate the build variety, but the large amount of options isn't something I really care too much about in these games. The world is beautiful, but too often I find a mini dungeon that's copy and paste with a miniboss, and the reward after all that work is a spell or weapon I don't need, can't use, or will never use. It completely disincentives me from exploring. The legacy dungeons, except for maybe stormveil, also fail to live up to the intricate level design I love so much in these games. The main story bosses have all been very good (except for a couple near the end) but the minibosses around the world do very little for me.
I will stress that I've still enjoyed the game. It's still got the combat system I love with awesome bosses, great music, and a wonderful world. But after all the hype, I just haven't been able to get into this game, especially after I've loved all the other from software games, and that's just made me a bit sad really. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced something like this, or what people who really love this game think about this? It's likely just a lack of time on my behalf, but I thought it was interesting that the from software game that's by far the most popular and clicking with the most people has done by far the least for me out of their titles that I've played
@BranJ0 Don’t worry, I’m over 120 hours in and have the same feelings as other From games; there’s a lot I like about the game but it’s not one I’d say I’ve “enjoyed” playing as such.
I would have been done with the game a long time ago if it wasn’t for my completionist tendencies and the fact I feel I deserve the platinum after spending this long on one game now!
@LN78 Yeah this is true, I think it's also just a feeling of frustration! I've been hyped for the past year for Elden Ring, and it's one thing if the game was a disappointment for everyone, but it's doubly frustrating that everyone in the world seems to adore it except for me! Ah well, fingers crossed this is a one-off as far as From's games go
@Thrillho I don't blame you after 120 hours, I'd say you've more than earned that platinum! It's a strange one overall: I've had play sessions where I've just been like "this is one of the best games I've ever played" and other sessions where I've considered just taking a break from it because I haven't been enjoying it at all. Maybe I'll figure out my feelings after I finish it and take some time!
@BranJ0
Hi. It’s absolutely fine. I don’t know why some people keep trying to present their tastes as fact. Everyone is different. That’s why I think all these scores and GOTY awards are meaningless.(to gamers)
There are many games I felt about differently from the internet noise. 🤷🏼♂️
I personally loved the game. Awesome. Got to admit it hits different that typical FromSoft games and I understand people can feel the formula less interesting. The open world exploration felt like an adventure to me whereas it may feel like a chore to others. It’s normal.
Anyway it’s all good.
The crowd, accepting this immediately, assumed the anti-Eurasian posters and banners everywhere were the result of acts of sabotage by agents of Goldstein and ripped them from the walls.
I'm still plodding along and have spent the last couple of sessions exploring the Consecrated Snowfield and have just found a portal to Mohgwyn Palace...
But good lord, can people definitely tell me that this game comes to an end??
I cleared Mohgwyn Palace (Mohg himself was surprisingly easy with Tear Mimic and had such a long death sequence I actually remembered to use a golden foot thing to get 500k runes!) and went back to the Consecrated Snowfield.
Ordina is genuinely one of the worst things in a From game and I had to use a guide and a video to get through that. I've just made it through Miquella's Haligtree and defeated the boss. And there's another area here too? And this whole area is apparently optional???
@Jimmer-jammer Oh, damn. I didn’t read your post properly about it being the last trophy boss! Looking at my list, I can’t believe how many I still have to do
And Odina was very DS1 like with those bloody archers reminding me of the infamous Anor Londo ones. I read a tip saying to fire an arrow to distract one of them and then sprint past which did the trick!
I'm 80 hrs in and just beat the fire giant! I'm going to try out the medallion I got the second half for in Castle Sol before pressing on. I'm not normally a trophy hunter and have been trying to play without a guide but I'm quite tempted to look at a trophy guide and see whether the platinum would be achievable.
@R1spam@Jimmer-jammer I was looking through the Legendary gear and one of the spells is from an Evergaol which isn’t open to me for some reason so I don’t think there’s any way I can get it 😕
As for my run, I completed the Haligtree area and defeated Malenia. I got her to the second phase a few times but eventually did it with some summons. Summoning people just makes me realise how boring/rubbish my build is!
@Jimmer-jammer The Evergaol I need is locked but isn’t one you need to use a key to unlock. I’ve checked my inventory and definitely don’t have the spell from beating the enemy inside, although I hadn’t left a marker next to it to say I needed to beat it still. It seems to be a problem for a few people on Reddit too.
And yeah, all these people dual wielding awesome weapons with unique abilities and I’m there with my weapon and shield..
@Jimmer-jammer@Thrillho yeah I was surprised when I looked at the list, I have things for all of the endings already and a fair chunk of the weapons/spells already. Missed a few summons though, just did the Alecto fight in the evergaol. I'm level 124 and that fight was pretty solid!!
@R1spam I didn't realise I already had access to Alecto and beat her myself this evening. I'm level 146 and that fight was not fun! That jumping move that does mega damage and continues to drain health was brutal
@Jimmer-jammer Crisis averted; I picked up a final spell up on the same region as the Alecto fight and the trophy popped for having all legendary spells.
No just to figure out where the main storyline is again after that 15-20hr detour
