Also, I'm really looking forward to this, but I'm really disappointed in humans' racial bonus. It's nothing compared to what other races get and more carrying weight almost looks like an intentional insult.
@Jaz007 humans did take a bit of a dip for race choice, however they still would make a strong case as the best choice for a "Jack of all trades" achievement run.
After watching many videos, I have finally decided the class and group I'm going to use for my first playthrough. I'm going Good, Lore bard (race choice will be my daughter's to try and get her to join me for a coop run). I'll take a respec Shadowheart Life Cleric, Gale, and Karlach. Can't wait. Hard to keep myself from watching more videos.
As interested as I’ve become in Baldurs Gate 3 from all the glowing praise… my backlog together with my brief dalliance with Divinity Original Sin 2 means I’ll probably end up giving it a miss (until my diary opens up a bit at least). Glad everyone is enjoying it though.
@kyleforrester87 Within the first couple hours you get a character who goes to your camp and allows full respec. Except for race and possibly background. All stats, classes and subclasses can be respec. You can also respect the companions fully, although it may break their storyline a bit. It cost 100 gold every respec. So basically nothing.
@Elodin So, aside from race (which tends to be Human for me, as dull as that is) I don't need to sweat the character creation screen too much then? As much as I would like to spend hours developing one, I tend to be anxious to get into the game as quickly as possible as well.
@kyleforrester87 correct. Without deep diving into all the classes and choices and you find that your current character isnt too your liking later it will be easy to respec. Larian Studios did a great job allowing for respecs, with so many choices, analysis paralysis could easily set in. I know some who respec just for a certain fight then respec back. I don't think ill be doing any respec except for Shadowheart. I feel it breaks the roleplaying aspect even if it is only me playing. I often have backstories in my head of why my player chooses certain things.
@Elodin Yes, I don't really like the idea of respeccing - it's more fun to own your choices, and I generally tend to enjoy going from a basic sword and board dude and filling it out from there, even if it's not the most efficient path. I don't really like it when you feel almost obligated to follow a build guide. I'd respec if I somehow worked myself into a corner, but that doesn't seem too likely given what you say and my past experience with DOS!
Kind of bummed about the lack of cross-play with this game. A friend has it on PC and wants to do co-op, but apparently PS5 and PC won’t be able to play together. I wonder if that’s in the cards for a future update.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Bentleyma yep. The early part of the game when even a wolf could kick your ass was the best, though. Generally, that’s how these games go and I expect the same with BG3 really.
I imagine while a lot will still kick your butt, I think it’ll be a bit less brutal than early BG1, if for nothing other than the fact that BG3 is proper DnD combat, not a horrific bastardization of it that makes everything harder than it needs to be and forced the rules completely out of their proper design.
I do think a proper sense of danger will be important and present though.
Today is the day everyone! Can't wait to hear all the stories of your characters. Hopefully my lore bard will vicious mockery his way to saving himself and those around him. Enjoy and good luck all!
