Got Immortals Fenyx Rising. First Ubisoft game I have brought in a few years but I have been cautiously interested for a while. Already I am annoyed to heck.
What is with this forced login crap? Ubisoft come off as desperate. Trying to force me just means I won't do it out of spite. Just disconnected PS4 from the web. Also the menu is wierd, especially with the cursor. I went to controls to alter this with sensitivity and the game says that it only affects in-game camera and not the menu, so clearly Ubisoft know the menu is stupid!
Heck, I haven't even started the game yet, and they still managed to annoy me. Might update later when I have actually played some of the game.
@RogerRoger Played for a few hours so far. Just about got to the next area following the starting area. Comparisons with Breath of the Wild seem quite accurate in terms of gameplay, with the Ubisoft quirks. There is quite a bit of background narration from Zeus and Prometheus whenever anything story related happens in the middle of gameplay. Kind of annoying, but far from unbearable. Think I might need to play further to make up my mind, but have mixed feelings at present.
@MS7000@RogerRoger The menu cursor things is indeed a poor choice for consoles. They did the same for the last couple Assassin's Creed games. My guess is that it's mostly to save themselves for designing a separate UX for consoles and PC (where this kinda menu obviously works well with mouse input).
I actually liked this game a lot and ended up doing 100% of both the main game and all DLC. I have never played BotW though so I don't know how it compares. My favorite part was the puzzles.
The dialogue and narration can be borderline cringe at times but I actually grew to like it with time
@MS7000@Voltan Is Immortals the kind of game where you can complete it in 2 hours or in 100 hours, like (supposedly) BOTW is? Is that how they are similar?
I heard that part of the divisiveness of BOTW is the true open nature of the game, the flexible nature in which it can be approached, and the weapon degradation. So just wondering in what ways Immortals is different and the same.
I’ve not played BOTW yet, and hope to some day, if nothing else for just perspective since it’s considered an all-time great, but was wondering if playing one first will skew the enjoyment of the other.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Th3solution That’s not it. It’s mostly an Ubisoft open world game but it’s reminiscent of BOTW in both the visual style and some mechanics, such as climbing any surface with a stamina bar. I think the puzzle element might be another thing but I never played BOTW myself so I’m not sure if they’re that similar.
But no, you have to make your way through the main quest to beat Fenyx, can’t go straight to the final battle or anything like that. There’s a lot of optional stuff that lets you unlock upgrades and cosmetics and such. It’s kinda like Assassins Creed but with way more puzzles and a much lighter tone.
That January sale be dangerous! I picked up My Friend Pedro, Strider, Carrion, The Messenger, Narita Boy, Empire of Sin, Ender Lilies: Quitus of the Knights & F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch… and weighing up whether I take a punt on the 20% off GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition.
Could’ve picked a load more up from the Wishlist too but I would’ve been looking at about £600.00 if I had 😅.
Just bought Pyre in the January sale. I've been eyeing this game for quite some time now and I figured I might as well get it now since there wasn't much else in the sale that interested me. I still haven't played any of Supergiant's games, but I do also have Bastion and Transistor on Switch so I'll have to give those a try one of these days!
I've only played KH 1 & KH 2 so having everything KH aside from 3 and the rhythm game in one box and two discs is pretty nice
Dunno if you saw my second reply to you in the switch thread the other day @Ralizah but looks like I was right and got Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster for Christmas.
Now I'm unsure whether to read your review of it now so I go in with your critiques in mind or after I've played this specific version to see if I concur with your thoughts... 😄

That's awesome. Your family clearly knows you well.
Read it after, IMO. Play the game blind-ish (it's been a minute, yeah?), and then we can swap viewpoints on it. While improvements are minimal, I think you'll appreciate how much easier fusions are now.
It helps when your daughter has similar gaming tastes @Ralizah and probably steered my partner into getting it me so she could play it too
Nocturne was my first review I wrote on here back when I first joined up well over two years ago... So it's not been as long as the other SMT titles that I've not yet gone back to
Either that, or it'd make for one heck of an obtrusive Cluedo piece. "I think it was Colonel Mustard, with the N64 cartridge, in the... wait, where'd the Library go?" "It's under the murder weapon." "Oh."
... I'd certainly play that version of cluedo Rog 😄
Nice bit of Star Wars swag/gaming tat you got there too... The Republic Commando artbook look especially nice.
Though the wait is a bit much!

@Keith_Zissou I was just gushing about Edith Finch on another thread. It’s great. If you like variety and trying new things, then you’ll like it. It’s quite unique.
And yeah, easily done in one weekend, and maybe even one sitting. (I’m thinking it was about 3 hours if memory serves but it’s been a while. I think it took me two sittings)
In physical, Shadow of the Colossus, haven't started it yet. More recently though I downloaded Star Ocean First Departure R and I've been playing the hell out of that. Almost at the end then I'm gonna play something else then go back and beat it again with different characters and get more trophies. A game I want to 100% is rare but this one I want to 100%.
Just checked a couple off the wishlist with the new sale. Picked up Children of Morta and Deaths Gambit: Afterlife. There were a few more of my wishlist reduced… but as I’m in no rush to play them I’m gonna hold out for a bigger price reduction.
