It's called Geo if I'm remembering correctly @Thrillho

Luckily you have to challenge them every try so you don't get forced into fighting them should you fail. Still a pain to get back to them though!

And City of Tears is so good! That's around the point where it started really getting it's hooks into me

The soundtrack is pretty top notch too!

Team cherry really are pretty sweet guys. All the DLC was free because it was part of the Kickstarter tiers and they just gave it to everyone

They're even giving the sequel "Hollow Knight: Silksong" away to people who backed them on Kickstarter despite it originally only going to be alternate character DLC!

Plus apparently they said they only priced the game at £12/$15 because they know that to some people that's a decent chunk of change... Kinda feel bad I bought it on sale now 😅

I beat the Mantis Lords yesterday and found them quite straightforward. It helped that the second phase attacks were identical to the first phase.

I am just at a point now where I had no idea where to go next and have now opened up so many routes I still don't know which one to tackle next. I did stumble on the dream nail which has opened up even more possibilities!

Blimey, this game has so much depth and some of the bosses are pretty damn tricky.

I unlocked the Grimm Troupe and finally beat Grimm... only to then come across the Nightmare King version. The Trial of the Fool has also proved something of a challenge!

Thrillho

HallowMoonshadow

... I haven't beat Grimm yet 😅

How far are you in now @Thrillho for the "storyline" as it is?

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy I still have the third Dreamer to take on but have now explored every area. I'm not sure what else is in the "main" storyline or what is needed for the "good" ending either.

There's also the Godmaker(?) content to do at some point.

Thrillho

HallowMoonshadow

Oh wow! Not long left at all @Thrillho for the "main" storyline!

... If I can't beat Grimm I have no hope in hell for the Godmaster content...

Probably my only criticism of Hollow Knight is that while the main game is tough but not too tough for me. The dlc's really are more for the pro's... I'm not good at pixel perfect jumps and timing and all that 😅

I take it you've thoroughly enjoyed the game?

Thrillho

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Oh definitely. I haven’t had as much chance to play it this week though. Most of my enjoyment has come from discovering all the new areas and slowly upgrading the character which has plateaued now but there’s still so much to do.

I quite like the vague story as well but do wish there wasn’t quite so much backtracking required.

Christ alive, the Path of Pain really is deserving of it's name. I was a bit peeved to get killed by the enemies at the end and put all the way back to the beginning :/

Amazing at how "quickly" you can get through it the second time around though.

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy @Thrillho I just started playing this game and am loving it so far, still early on but based on first impressions it's a deep game with RPG and Souls elements, just my cup of tea. Now, if only you could do a 'Guts' build in it....

@Draco_V_Ecliptic It certainly has some Souls elements but is very much a Metroidvania. I loved it for the artwork, quite in depth combat, but also the platforming section. A perfect combo for me! I hope you like it as much (and don't have PS+ seeing as it's free next month).

How did you get on in the end @Trisque and @R1spam ?

Thrillho

Black_Swordsman

@Thrillho Would you say it's easier than a Dark Souls game? I've only just started it - and why?

@Thrillho I'm still playing it, there is so much content in this game! Currently suffering in the White Palace, easily the most difficult part of the game so far. I feel that buzzsaws are a symbol of gaming nowadays, it's not like you see them elsewhere lol. It deserves to be priced much higher, but isn't because of Team Cherry's consideration for people with little money. That fact alone makes me happy to support them.

@Draco_V_Ecliptic it's easier than a Dark Souls game, the combat is easier to grasp and the enemies have more telegraphed attacks. Despite that, it is still quite difficult and I feel that a Souls lover such as yourself will enjoy it.

@Thrillho like @Trisque I'm still playing! The depth of this game is amazing. I'm 38 hrs in and have just finished up in the Abyss. I've just been limited in gaming time as work is busy otherwise I would have played more. I'm still so impressed with the world design, enemy variety and art style.
@Draco_V_Ecliptic I would say overall its easier than a souls game but there have been a couple of bosses and platforming sections that have kicked my ass! Ive played handheld on switch and wonder if using the d-pad on the ps4 will make things easier. Its a great game, I hope you enjoy!

@Trisque @R1spam Nice! So you're both pretty far into the game then. Either of you had much success in the Colosseum yet?

And @Trisque if you're having fun with the White Palace, have you had a go at the Path of Pain there yet? That's probably the hardest bit of platforming I've ever done!

@Draco_V_Ecliptic It's really hard to compare it to Dark Souls as it's a completely different game. There are overlaps and some of the big boss fights (especially the DLC ones) are as tough and rewarding as any of the DS games and you can't even rely on summoning help either The scope to customise your character with abilities also means there are loads of ways to play the game too.

I didn’t even try the Path of Pain. No chance. I also gave up on the last colosseum after dying to the boss twice. I’ll maybe go back to it later on.

@Thrillho only finished the first challenge so far, got quite a few waves into 2 but just wanted to get back to exploring. The level design is amazing, it definitely has that fromsoft, interconnected feel. I don't normally buy any gaming tat but have been very tempted by the wanderers journal art book.

@Thrillho well I did beat the White Palace. However, I also watched someone do the Path of Pain and I hoped out of there quickly. Intense platforming really isn't my favorite form of gameplay, and I mainly did the White Palace because I wanted to reach the end.
Have only done the first trial in the Colosseum, may return to do more. There is just so much content in this game, I'm at 40-ish hours and still haven't beaten it!

Trisque

Thrillho

@nessisonett @Trisque The Path of Pain is one of those things that I was determined to finish once I'd started it. The numerous checkpoints are definitely needed and there is a shortcut half way round so you don't have to do the whole thing again if you quit. It is extremely harsh that the very last bit involves a slightly tricky fight and death takes you back to a bench (not on the Path!) rather than the last checkpoint. And all you get is a few second cut scene!

The third round in the Colosseum also took me plenty of goes but at least I got a trophy for that one

@R1spam I thought about the art book too as I loved the style of the game.

Thrillho

@Trisque thought I'd reply here, will definitely try pogo trick on the watcher knights but having a couple of days break. Will get them in the end

@R1spam that's the spirit! If you do feel under leveled feel free to explore before continuing to fight them (personally I found the upgrade to Vengeful Spirit was useful against them). Have you done the Soul Sanctum yet? I really enjoyed the whole atmosphere of that area.
