Hi. Just a quick one. When you are quoting prices in articles, could you also include euros please? It tends to be just £ and $. Thanks and keep up the good work.
@McSavage thanks — I'll pass on the feedback; we do try to include it as often as we can. You can usually infer pricing for EU from the UK/US prices, which represent the majority of our audience.
I’ve noticed that some of the articles have transitioned from writing “we” as a PS collective to “I”, is that a thing or am I going a bit mad? Interesting change if so, no agenda at all - just curious to know the reasoning behind that if so.
Yes, we've been experimenting with it on the sly for a month and decided to make a full transition on Monday, 18th May.
Personally I've felt a bit restricted by the third-person perspective for a while, as I've always tried to inject as much of my own opinion in articles as I possibly can. I think some regular readers know/understand my personal tastes, but what I think doesn't necessarily reflect what Rob/Liam thinks, etc.
Switching to first-person allows us to be a bit more personal with our own perspectives, experiences, and thoughts.
Games media as a whole is much more personality/individual-led these days, so I think if we're able to forge relationships with our readers, where we can share more of our own perspectives, that's going to be a positive moving forwards.
Obviously we're also increasingly butting our heads against AI aggregators/summaries. And while AI is great at summarising information — a release date or a price — it can't necessarily have an opinion. It can tell you WHAT is happening, but not necessarily WHY it matters.
AI is not going to go away, so I think this is one area where we can add value in this new era.
I'm interested to hear everyone's thoughts, though. Obviously it's a big change for us so will take some time to settle into our own unique voices, as many of us have been writing third-person for years now.
@get2sammyb hey, thanks for the explanation. All of that makes complete sense to me! I’ve become used to the third person over the years but I admit that took some effort. It’s now a little jarring to read articles but I am confident this is an improvement - great stuff. I can see how it must be a bit weird adjustment for the writers too.
@kyleforrester87 Thanks for the positive words, it means a lot! It definitely will take us a bit of time to nail it, but if anyone has any other thoughts or suggestions please let us know!
I'm quite excited about the change, as I think it's going to allow us to more easily add more value to articles, beyond the facts.
