I've had this headset since it launched in the UK so it is getting on a bit; maybe that's the issue, that it's just old and had its day, but anyway...

Over the past few weeks, every now and then the headset will give out a severe distortion which I can only describe as metallic. The only way I can describe it is it sounds like an old dot-matrix printer inside an empty oil drum. Sometimes I can be gaming for hours and it's its good old self; working perfectly. Other days it happens every 15 minutes or so. I've found that unplugging the optical cable from the transmitter and plugging it straight back in fixes it until it decides to go haywire again.

Nothing has changed in my set-up. Everything is where it's always been, so I don't think anything is interfering with the signal from transmitter to headset.

I've had it plugged in to my laptop and it's all up-to-date. I've even restored it and tried a few different pre-sets.

I'm thinking it's nearing the end of its life
