Soul Hackers 2 is a Shin Megami Tensei spinoff that takes obvious cues from the Persona series, promoting social links with a ragtag cast of weird characters. Primarily, though, this is a turn-based dungeon crawler with some cool ideas. And even though some of these ideas don't quite come together at times, it's easy to appreciate the style and swagger of this often odd RPG.

Superhot: Mind Control Delete (PS4)

Superhot: Mind Control Delete treads very familiar ground to the original. Time slows to a crawl when you don't move, and you use this quirk to outmanoeuvre and kill countless crimson crystalline men. In terms of gameplay, this follow-up isn't a huge leap forward, but there's plenty of twists to the formula that make this a must-play for fans.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn (PS5)

Tactics Ogre: Reborn revives a stone cold strategy RPG classic, and even packs some welcome quality of life improvements into the deal. This fantasy-driven adventure's methodical pacing won't be for everyone, but once you're in, you can absolutely lose yourself to the game's party-building mechanics, intricate storytelling, and engrossing tactical combat.

The Last Clockwinder (PS5)

The Last Clockwinder is a great PSVR2 puzzler with a relaxed atmosphere and clever conundrums. In a nutshell, you record yourself performing specific actions, then clone that action so it becomes automated. By repeating this process, you can create infinitely looping assembly lines, and doing so efficiently is fun and satisfying. With open-ended puzzle solutions, this is a lovely, chill game that makes good use of virtual reality.

The Last Guardian (PS4)

From the team behind ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, you shouldn't overlook The Last Guardian. This third game in the loosely connected trilogy has just as much heart and impact as the others — not to mention one of the most technically impressive AI companions yet seen. Playing as a small boy, you and a large, mysterious creature called Trico must escape from a crumbling, enigmatic place full of dangers. The bond you'll form with Trico — who gradually learns to trust and listen to you more as the game goes on — is unlike any other in video games, leading to an incredibly emotional and touching adventure.

The Last of Us Remastered (PS4)

Some of the finest of feathers in Naughty Dog's well-groomed plume, The Last of Us Remastered is not just an improved version of one of PlayStation's greatest ever games – it's arguably one of the most impressive releases of all time. An all-rounder that marries tense gameplay with compelling characterisation and sublime presentation, Joel and Ellie's cross-country escapade is as sombre as it is heart-warming.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 (PS5)

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 is another fantastic skateboarding title that revives some all-time classics, albeit with some caveats. It's a shame that 4 couldn't be more faithfully restored, but what is included still makes for a fun arcade skating experience that fans of the series shouldn't skip — especially considering the brand new levels and other neat secrets. It may not be the greatest remake, but it's further proof that there's life yet in this timeless series.

Two Point Museum (PS5)

Two Point Museum takes the series to an original setting that allows for a much more varied and fun management sim. On top of usual duties like hiring staff, setting prices, and meeting objectives, you'll send out expeditions to secure new artefacts for your museum. This curation aspect adds an extra layer of customisation and interest, making for what is probably the most appealing game in the series so far.

Unicorn Overlord (PS5)

"Vanillaware doesn't miss" — a statement that grows more and more meaningful with every game that the talented Japanese studio releases. Unicorn Overlord takes the developer in yet another new direction, channelling the spirit of strategy RPGs like Fire Emblem to create one of the finest examples of the genre that you'll find in modern gaming. Growing a huge army of characters and finding unique ways to squad them up is the crux of the experience, and it only gets increasingly addictive as the adventure continues. Couple that with Vanillaware's amazing, trademark art direction, and you've got a surefire recipe for role-playing success.

Until Then (PS5)

Until Then is a heartfelt, narrative-focused adventure that shines in its relatable portrayal of teenage relationships. There's a grander story to discover about a catastrophe that verges on world-ending, but the more intimate storytelling about being a young person going through that awkward adolescent phase. While the game has some rough edges, it spins a great yarn, and there's enough room for some fun minigames too.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 (PS4)

When it comes to gameplay, Valkyria Chronicles 4 is the most fleshed-out title in SEGA's strategy series. It builds on the property's trademark mix of real-time movement and command-based action really well, adding new unit types, character integrations, and battlefield hazards. The story's still pretty good, too, following yet another ragtag band of soldiers as they fight for their homeland. A little slow to get properly started, perhaps, but a tactical treat once you're in the trenches.

VR Skater (PS5)

Though it has a steep learning curve, stick with VR Skater and you'll discover a clever adaptation of the sport to virtual reality. It takes some getting used to, but once the controls bed in, this is a small but satisfying game with plenty of challenges to tackle and fun customisation options to unlock.

WipEout Omega Collection (PS4)

$9.99/£11.99 (-50%/-60%)

The granddaddy of anti-gravity racing makes a triumphant return to PlayStation with a gorgeous remaster that brings together content from WipEout HD, Fury, and 2048. The fast and fluid racer plays beautifully, looks gorgeous, and runs like a shiny, metal dream. The recently added VR support is incredibly well implemented too, making this an even better package for PSVR owners. While we’d have preferred an all new entry in the franchise, this serves as a great reminder of why WipEout is so beloved by fans.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (PS4)

As is the case with DOOM, Bethesda’s staked its claim as the masters of reviving old-school first-person franchises. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus has all of the camp European eccentricities of its predecessor, but it presents them all in the context of a Nazi occupied United States. With bone-rattling gunplay and an engaging storyline, B.J. Blazkowicz is not past it yet.
