History
Push Square was established by Sammy Barker in 2009, just as the Sony PlayStation 3 was hitting its stride and the PlayStation Portable was challenging Nintendo's DS for handheld dominance.
The goal, even in those early days, was to engage and entertain readers, blending facts, context, and engaging opinion to the many topics on the lips of the PlayStation fandom at large. Those objectives remain consistent today.
In 2011, Push Square became part of the Hookshot Media network and was eventually combined with the PS Move site, Movemodo. This collaboration with the founders of Nintendo Life – including directors Anthony Dickens, Damien McFerran, and Darren Calvert – expanded the capabilities of Push Square’s operations, and took the site to new highs.
In the years that have followed, Push Square has risen to become the world's most visited PlayStation website and continues to enjoy a close working relationship with Sony Interactive Entertainment, providing crucial insider access to the latest games and hardware.
Shortly after Push Square’s integration into the network, Hookshot Media established a commercial relationship with Gamer Network, the business behind sites such as Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247, and Digital Foundry.
In 2024, Push Square became a partner of IGN Entertainment after Gamer Network was acquired by Ziff Davis.
