SCEE Put The Brakes On Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City

Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes From Liberty City Is Coming... Just Later Than Planned.

Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes From Liberty City Is Coming... Just Later Than Planned.

Well, we’ve waited months and months for Grand Theft Auto IV’s XBOX 360 “exclusive” content Episodes From Liberty City, right? What harm’s a couple more weeks going to cause, right?

Rockstar’s announced this morning that they’ve delayed the PS3 version of GTAIV: Episodes From Liberty City by two weeks due to some minor changes demanded by SCEE. The game was originally scheduled to release on March 30th but will now hit on April 16th here in Europe (April 13th in the US).

“Due to a last minute game submission request from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe to edit some of the in-game Liberty City radio station, television, and internet content – we are forced to delay the worldwide release of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City for both PlayStation 3 and PC for an extra two weeks,” Rockstar posted on their blog.

“The new release date for Episodes from Liberty City – and the two downloadable episodes The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony – on those platforms is now April 13th in North America and April 16th in Europe.

“This new date will enable us to rectify these changes for Sony Europe, and still allow for a level playing field for all of the Grand Theft Auto fans that have been waiting patiently for this release. In the meantime, we’re moving full speed ahead towards the new game release date. On that note – please be aware that the Grand Theft Auto IV PlayStation 3 leaderboards at Rockstar Games Social Club will be down for maintenance for one week starting March 22nd as we work on their re-launch in support of Episodes from Liberty City.

“Unfortunately, with each round of changes comes fully re-testing the game and a full re-submission to PlayStation. This is the nature of the game submission process. Believe us, if we could expedite the turnaround any sooner – we would. We are dying to get this game in the hands of fans who’ve waited for it for so long in the first place.

“This was a tough decision but with a simultaneous release, everyone can experience multiplayer simultaneously, take part in online events together, be on level ground on leaderboards, etc.”

It’s pretty bumming news to be honest, that must frustrate the publisher no end. But these things happen and the delay is not particularly huge. Two extra weeks is all guys. Hold out.

SCEE: MotorStorm Website Registation Is Not A Confirmation [Wink, Wink]

MotorStorm's Bound To Get A Third Installment. BOUND!

MotorStorm's Bound To Get A Third Installment. BOUND!

Sony’s told VG247 that the registration of a MotorStorm 3 website “should not be interpreted as an announcement”. Whoopsies, and there was us going all wild with our jet-ski fantasies.

“It’s not uncommon for us to secure the URLs containing the names of our successful IP, and those actions should not be interpreted as an announcement of a new title in a franchise,” a rep from Sony told VG247.

It’s not a confirmation but we bet the game’s still in development. And if it’s not: PLEASE PUT JET-SKIS IN THE INEVITABLE MOTORSTORM 3, EVOLUTION. PLEASE!

Bioshock 2 Takes The UK Charts’ Top Spot, Bayonetta Re-Enters

Bioshock 2: "Unneccessary" But Apparently Still A Big Deal.

Bioshock 2: "Unnecessary" But Apparently Still A Big Deal.

Apparently Bioshock is still a big deal, as Bioshock 2 has shot straight to the top of the UK charts, removing previous leader Mass Effect 2. Interestingly, after a slew of price-cuts (and perhaps that Playstation 3 patch), Bayonetta has re-entered the charts in number 10 (up from 36). Elsewhere, Fifa 10 and Modern Warfare 2 are still strong propositions.

No Motion Controller Support For This, Homies.

No Motion Controller Support For This, Homies.

Well that rumour popped up and was quashed in minutes wasn’t it? We like it that way. TheSixthAxis reported this morning that Guerrilla Games’ Killzone 2 is due a Playstation Motion Controller patch. But SCEE says, “Uhhh. No it’s not.”

And that’s the end of that, valued reader.

Sony Has Pulled Within Touching Distance Of The XBOX 360, Despite A Year's Head Start.

Sony’s reported that they are just 5.5 million systems behind the XBOX 360 now, with a strong showing for the Playstation 3 this Christmas driving the system up to 33.5 million global sales.

Sony also reiterated that they will hit their 13 million systems sold target during the fiscal year, with 10.8 million systems sold for the nine months ending December 31st.

With the figures already reported, Sony will once again post year on year growth, with 3.5 million PS3s in FY06, rising to 9.1 in FY07 and then to 10.1 in FY08.

We’re sure there’s some back-patting going on in SCE’s various worldwide offices.
