Hadouken: Japan Still Loves The PSP.
We’re quickly running out of things to say about the PSP’s performance in Japan. It’s consistently shifting lots of units and, erm, yeah – surprise it’s top again! Betcha didn’t expect that did you? Mwahaha.
Sigh. The figures are after the jump.

Keep On Trucking: The PSP Is Still Japan's Favourite Piece Of Hardware.
It’s another week on top of the Japanese hardware charts for the Playstation Portable this week, despite stiff competition from the various Nintendo DS SKUs (there are about a billion of them). The Playstation 3 sits just below the Wii in third-place, shifting 27,763 units, with the PSPgo and PS2 at the bottom.

It's Your Birthday... Doo-Bee-Do-Do.
Who’d have thunk it: the Playstation 2 is officially ten years old today! Indeed, ten years ago to the day, the Playstation 2 launched in Japan alongside Ridge Racer 5 and Street Fighter Ex 3. The system launched later that same year in Europe and America.
In its ten years, the PS2 has sold over 140 million units, becoming the best selling home-console device of all time. Yup. It’s biggest selling games were GTA: San Andreas, and Gran Turismo 3 and 4.
Now that the PS2’s ten years are up, what’s the betting on Sony announcing some kind of PSN based “PS2 Classics” service? Hmm.

Arc - Augmented Reality Controller?
Perhaps fuelling the fires that Sony’s Playstation Motion Controller will eventually be called the Playstation Arc, Siliconera’s found a Japanese trademark filing for the name. Couple that with a website registration a few weeks ago and you have your name.
It doesn’t really take a genius, eh?

Hello Japan!
Hey folks, how are you finding the wait for Yakuza 3? Yeah, it’s been a long year hasn’t it? Still, at least we have a firm March release date to look forward to an announcement of a demo for, erm, Yakuza 4! Yep, Yakuza 4 is on the horizon for Japan, so if you have a Playstation Store account for the region you’ll be able to check out the next installment in the franchise on March 4th thanks to a nice demo SEGA’s announced. Lovely.
Let’s hope the wait for Yakuza 4 ain’t quite so long, eh?

Japan Still Totally Loves Resident Evil, Likes Some Heavy Rain Too.
The Japanese software chart is surprising on two counts this week. Firstly, apparently people are still way into Resident Evil. Despite essentially being a re-release of a year old game, Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition (Alternative Edition in Japan) has debuted top of the Japanese software charts selling a whopping 143,339 copies. The PSP’s God Eater occupied the second spot.
But most interestingly, is the appearance of Heavy Rain at number six. It managed 26,775 copies in its first week on retail, which is impressive for a game we’d consider to have largely Western appeal. Maybe Japan are ready for a change.
We’ve stuck the full listing after the jump.

The Playstation Portable Is Still On Top In Japan. Surprise!
This week’s Japanese hardware chart looks vaguely similar to the week before it. The Playstation Portable still tops the charts, with the PSPgo in dead last at the other end of the spectrum. Somewhere in the middle is the Playstation 3, with some Nintendo platforms above it and the XBOX 360 far below it.
Check the numbers after the jump.
