If The Rumours Are Correct, Killzone 3 Might Be Knocking On Virtual Reality's Door.
News coming out of CVG this afternoon suggests that Killzone 3 will support Playstation Motion Controller and stereoscopic 3D as Sony embark on showcasing their new tech with a serious killer-app. Whether or not this Killzone 3 rumour ties into tonight’s big “secret sequel” announcement is unknown, but it certainly sounds possible.
When it comes to pushing new tech, Sony couldn’t really have gone much bigger than Killzone 3 – the prequel of which is already one of Playstation’s (and the industry as a wholes) best looking game.
The potential here is for the first steps into virtual reality with the combination of 1:1 motion control and stereoscopic 3D graphics.
Huge rumour right here folks. Huge.

We Absolutely Would Not Say No To More Killzone This Year.
The Killzone 3 rumours apparently will just not die. According to Play.TM, Killzone 3 is due this Christmas and will support both 3D and Playstation Motion Controller support. To be honest, there probably couldn’t be a better franchise for Sony to push their latest technology (particularly 3D), but is a Christmas slot to soon for Killzone 3?
Well the strongest argument for a Killzone 3 release this Christmas points at the delay of Killzone 2. Sources at the time suggested the game was done and dusted by Christmas 2008, but Sony decided to hold the title back in order to give Resistance 2 space to breathe. That would mean Guerrilla would have roughly 22 months or so from Christmas ‘08, to get Killzone 3 out of the door for Christmas ‘10. Which considering the engine is built, is possible.
With Resistance 2 scheduled for a 2011 launch, it may be that Sony has decided to juggle their key shooter franchises the other way around.
As for Playstation Motion Controller, we’re not so sure. All we’re certain is that Killzone 3 will be at E3.

Are We To Get Another Glimpse Of The Helghast Over The Coming Months.
Various uncited sources around the ‘net have been commenting on Killzone 3 lately, but this is the first time we’ve heard rumours from a more respectable source. It’s PSM3 magazine (via CVG) that are saying the words “Killzone” and “Three” in the same sentence right now, as they rumour details are due over the next few months.
They really don’t have anything to back up their statement, but their seems to be a lot of smoke at the moment. And you know what they say about smoke and fire.

No Motion Controller Support For This, Homies.
Well that rumour popped up and was quashed in minutes wasn’t it? We like it that way. TheSixthAxis reported this morning that Guerrilla Games’ Killzone 2 is due a Playstation Motion Controller patch. But SCEE says, “Uhhh. No it’s not.”
And that’s the end of that, valued reader.

Killzone 2's Music Is So Intense It Causes Your Ears To Explode (Probably).
Finally we can live out our fantasy in which we pretend to have orange eyes and march around a dark, stormy environment listening to the sounds of Killzone 2. How? By downloading the soundtrack from iTunes.
The soundtrack was performed in the Abbey Road Studios, London (so you know it’s good) and features 74 minutes of epic, jaw-grindingly intense orchestral music.
We might pick this up actually. It’ll never better the unbelievable Linger In Shadows soundtrack, mind.

We'd Maybe Bet £5 That Killzone 3 Is In Development Right Now.
According to Eurogamer.de, Guerrilla Games’ epic shooting franchise is all but confirmed to return in 2011. According to them, animation director Jan-Bart Van Beek was on a Dutch TV show in which he confirmed the existence of Killzone 3 and a targeted release date of 2011. He was probably all like, “Yo, I work for Guerrilla Games and I’m making Killzone 3 due for release in 2011.” Except obviously he wouldn’t be speaking English. You get the drift.
Which is why we’re penning this as rumour for now. It’s pretty obvious something is going down at Guerrilla Games though. We’re sure Sony will announce exactly what when they’re ready.

According to a report by GI.biz, Killzone 2’s stunning CG introduction has been recognised with a reward from the Roses Design Awards. It’s the first time games have ever competed alongside graphical, visual design and architecture categories, so massive kudos to the people at Guerrilla Games and Axis Animation for pulling this off.
The intro is so impressive, you owe it to yourselves to watch it again. We’ve embedded it above.
