Gran Turismo PSP May Have Been Received Tepidly, But That's Not Particularly Slowed Its Sales.

Who said the Gran Turismo franchise carries no weight these days? Fuck me. Sony and Polyphony have just announced that Gran Turismo PSP, launched last Winter, has shifted over 1.8million copies. That’s a startling number for a PSP game without “Monster Hunter” in the title.

Polyphony’s also released the worldwide sales for each Gran Turismo game below. Prepare to have your mind blown:

  • Gran Turismo – 10,850,000
  • Gran Turismo 2 – 9,370,000
  • Gran Turismo 3 A-spec – 14,890,000
  • Gran Turismo Concept Series – 1,560,000
  • Gran Turismo 4 “Prologue” – 1,350,000
  • Gran Turismo 4 – 10,980,000
  • Gran Turismo 5 “Prologue” – 4,650,000
  • Gran Turismo PSP – 1,800,000
  • Total – 55,450,000

We’re taking bets on what Gran Turismo 5 will do when it’s finally released. We reckon its lifetime sales will top 10million, in the Gran Turismo 4 region. Thoughts?

Modern Warfare 2 Was The Playstation 3's Biggest Selling Game In '09. Surprise.

ELSPA’s confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 was the biggest selling game for the Playstation 3 in 2009. The news comes shortly after Modern Warfare 2 was announced as the biggest game of the year by ELSPA, raking in sales of £67million in just one week. The game’s now pulled in over $1billion.

Sitting next to Modern Warfare 2 in the Playstation 3’s overall 2009 sales charts was Fifa 10, Assassin’s Creed II, Killzone 2, and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Fifa 10 was a big winner on the PSP too, taking top spot ahead of its predecessor Fifa 09. Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters and LittleBigPlanet closed out the chart.

PushSquare’s Top 50 Playstation Games ‘09: #50-#46

#46: Gran Turismo PSP on Playstation Portable.

#46: Gran Turismo PSP on Playstation Portable.

We said: “It’s impossible to describe Gran Turismo PSP as a bad game. There’s the over-riding impression that in bringing Gran Turismo to the PSP, Polyphony Digital forgot to make an actual game around it. Ironically though, flawed as it is, Gran Turismo PSP still stands heads and shoulders above most other PSP titles. It’s disappointing to the degree of what might have been, but still stellar in many regards.”

#47 Gravity Crash on Playstation 3.

#47: Gravity Crash on Playstation 3.

We said: “Gravity Crash is a decent dual-stick shooter with an excellent level editor. It’s just a shame the notion of “Play Create Share” is unhinged by the limited community options available.”

#48: Mushroom Wars on Playstation 3.

#48: Mushroom Wars on Playstation 3.

We said: “Minimalistic in style and substance, Mushroom Wars will probably prove too watered down for hardcore RTS fans. However, if you’re just looking to chill on the couch with a great looking, simplistic strategy game, Mushroom Wars delivers.”

#49: WET on Playstation 3.

#49: WET on Playstation 3.

We said: “WET is mindless and dumb. Its saving grace is its self-awareness. With its bonkers plot, intriguing presentation and Tony Hawk-esque shooting mechanics, WET is actually much more than it alludes. See, WET may be mindless and dumb, but most of all – it’s fun.”

#50: Virtua Tennis 2009 on Playstation 3.

#50: Virtua Tennis 2009 on Playstation 3.

We said: “Virtua Tennis 2009 may not move the series forward very far, but it’s immediately apparent that the formula works just as well now as it ever did. With Wimbledon around the corner, this is the perfect summer smash.”

This is an advert for Gran Turismo PSP in Japan. It features rather nice looking – presumably expensive – cars scratching each other. If you’re into cars, this probably makes you feel sick or something.

Fifa 10 Holds Top Spot As Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Debuts At Number Two In The UK Sales Charts

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Has Debuted At Number Two On The British Sales Charts.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Has Debuted At Number Two On The British Sales Charts.

Before the babies come and bombard the site with tales of how Playstation 3 software doesn’t sell and the exclusives suck, let’s have a moment of clarification: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, one of the best games of the year, has debuted at number two in the British sales charts — one spot behind Fifa 10, a game that was able to chart all week and was released on seven chartable platforms.

So alas, we think that’s a big well done to the strength of EA’s game (we really liked it) and Naughty Dog’s still relatively new exclusive franchise.

With that moment of clarification out of the way it wasn’t such good news for Tim Schafer’s Brutal Legend, which debuted seventh. Although, given the niche target audience of that particular title, we’re sure EA will be pleased with its performance.

Fallout 3: Game Of The Year Edition entered at ten, with Sony’s PSP racer Gran Turismo PSP holding out in the top 20.

FIFA 10 Stayed At The Top Of The UK Sales Charts This Weeks. Expect To See It In A Similar Place Right Up To Christmas.

Following the success of DiRT2, Codemasters have flown out of the gates with another successful debut on the UK sales charts. Their super hardcore first person shooter Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising debuted at number two on the charts, right behind EA’s FIFA 10, which enjoyed a second week on the top spot. Need For Speed Shift came in at number three, with Sony’s Gran Turismo PSP finishing at number seven; proof indeed that there is still draw for Sony’s premier racing franchise.
