MAG Wasn’t On The NPD Top Ten, Does That Mean It Tanked?

MAG Fared Well In America Over Its First Five Days On Sale.

MAG Fared Well In America Over Its First Five Days On Sale.

Not at all, valued reader. The NPD has detailed the top-twenty games in January, continuing our coverage from last week. With five days on sales MAG managed to outsell the XBOX 360 version of Bayonetta which pulled in somewhere above 100,000 sales. It’s safe to assume then that MAG easily beat out 100,000 unit-sales, but the official numbers are yet to be released.

Sadly, the PS3 version of Bayonetta didn’t debut, due to a host of performance issues that have since been patched.

Bioshock 2 Takes The UK Charts’ Top Spot, Bayonetta Re-Enters

Bioshock 2: "Unneccessary" But Apparently Still A Big Deal.

Bioshock 2: "Unnecessary" But Apparently Still A Big Deal.

Apparently Bioshock is still a big deal, as Bioshock 2 has shot straight to the top of the UK charts, removing previous leader Mass Effect 2. Interestingly, after a slew of price-cuts (and perhaps that Playstation 3 patch), Bayonetta has re-entered the charts in number 10 (up from 36). Elsewhere, Fifa 10 and Modern Warfare 2 are still strong propositions.

Bayonetta Shifts 1.1million Copies

Bayonetta's Shifted Over A Million Copies. Success!

Bayonetta's Shifted Over A Million Copies. Success!

SEGA’s announced that Bayonetta has passed 1.1million sales. Despite announcing it as the company’s second best selling game in the nine months ending December 31st (a period when Bayonetta was not released in the West), SEGA are claiming Bayonetta’s worldwide sales as 1.1million. Shrugs – your guess is as good as mine.

Still, we reckon a sequel is almost guaranteed now. Don’t you? Let’s hope the PS3 version of the game is solid out of the door this time!

Sony To The Rescue: Bayonetta Patch Was Not Handled By SEGA Nor Platinum Games

Bayonetta: Now Officially 25% More Awesome On PS3.

Bayonetta: Now Officially 22.7% More Awesome On PS3.

It would appear that rumours of Sony stepping in to fix Bayonetta’s horrific performance issues were true; today’s “Installation” patch (which significantly improves load times) is rumoured to have been developed by Sony. That comes according to a quote on Dutch site Tweakers, who claim that a SEGA rep informed them the upgrade had nothing to do with his employer, nor Platinum Games.

We’ve been playing Bayonetta on PS3 this morning by the way, and it’s an enormous step-forward. In fact, you might want to consider adding a Square to our review. Yes, it’s that much better.

Bayonetta Install Patch Is Live Now In Europe

Hey Europeans. If you’ve been waiting on your fix of Bayonettawithout the horrendous load times, then insert you game right now – you should be told to download a patch which will allow you to install game data and (hopefully) stop the “loading” message from popping up when you hit the, erm, pause button.

It’s 136mb patch with a 4.5gb install. Excessive yes, but not as excessive as Bayonetta’s load times.

Bayonetta PS3 To Get Installation Patch

Bayonetta Might Finally Stop Loading The Pause Screen Post-Patch.

Bayonetta Might Finally Stop Loading The Pause Screen Post-Patch.

Finally. We mentioned how gutting it was to see Bayonetta chug its way through levels in our review, and even suggested that a simple installation patch might half those load issues. Well, it’s been an announced that online patch for the game will allow installation of some of the game’s data, hopefully aiding those issues.

It’s unknown whether the patch will aid the framerate issues but, hey, fixing the load issues is better than nothing!

Bayonetta on Playstation 3 Review.

Bayonetta’s ostentatious sense of style just about manages to off-set a string of performance issues apparent in the Playstation 3 iteration of the game. The game’s intent on filling the screen with the most down-right bonkers set pieces is uncompromising, and at times cover for its formulaic under structure. Still, we challenge anyone not to smile at Bayonetta’s relentless pacing.
