We’re shaking our heads here. Bemused. Look, we know Modern Warfare 2’s a good game. We said as much in our review. But really, it’s not that good. It’s a shooter, you have guns, they fire.
Man, the UK’s video games sales data people GfK Chart-Track have just announced that Modern Warfare 2 has become the second best selling game of all time. It’s leap-frogged Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. That’s bonkers.
It still has some way to go to catch-up to the best-selling UK game ever – that’s Nintendo’s Brain Training lark – but, we’re sure it’ll probably get there. Sigh.
Bored of the Bayformers and Megan Fox pouting? Us too. We want a real Transformers experience, and thankfully Activision’s latest title, War For Cybertron, looks set to capitalise on that.
Aside from being a new Transformers game that actually might be good, the game’s going to have three-player online co-0p, multiplayer, and epic God Of War-esque set-pieces. Obviously, playing as Transformers you’ll also be able to morph into various different vehicles. We’re hoping Soundwave’s “cassette player” form is included as we intend to Transform and simply blast some Billy Ocean rather than Autobots.
Sounds To Us Like The Call Of Duty Franchise Is Over.
Remember Call Of Duty? Yeah it was a big deal for a little while. It’ll continue to be a big deal for a while longer. But it kinda sounds like the franchise is done.
In a whole pile of drama starting yesterday, Activision has fired the Infinity Ward bosses Vince Zampella and Jason West. Activision’s also filed a document citing a human resources investigation “into breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward”. Gamasutra argue that the “insubordination” clause might be Activision’s way of getting out of a contract with Infinity Ward that states only they can make games in the Modern Warfare franchise. Big stuff right there. But we haven’t finished yet.
Indeed Activision announced last night that new upstarts Sledgehammer games (formerly of EA’s Visceral team) will work on an “action-adventure” Call Of Duty game in 2011, alongside another Call Of Duty game by an unknown developer.
Basically, Activision are milking Call Of Duty for everything it’s worth and the two guys that were responsible for kick-starting the franchise, well, they’re no longer at Infinity Ward.
Blur's Bringing Its Brand Of Combat Racing To The PS3 In May.
Bizarre Creations’ announced that its power-up focused racing title Blur will hit the UK on May 28th. The game was due in November but has since been pushed back for an extra lick of polish or two. Interestingly, that’s in a similar window to Disney’s destructive racer Split/Second.
Decisions, decisions. Although arcade racing games are one of our favourite genres, so we’ll probably be playing both games to death.
It’s a funny one Blur. It’s coming from a team with a fantastic heritage — the Metropolis Street Racer and Project Gotham Racing franchises were both absolutely fantastic. But Blur’s never looked quite so exciting; particularly not for a Bizarre Creations game.
This latest trailer makes more sense however. It’s clear Bizarre are aiming for a super social game, and in many ways that has its own niche now. It’s rare people group around one console anymore, and while this game will obviously have online multiplayer, it’s exciting to see that Mario Kart legacy return to Playstation 3.
It’s been a long time since that semi-decent Transformers game on the PS2. What with the recent Bayformers movies, we’d given up hope of a more traditional Transformers experience. Thank goodness for High Moon Studios, who appear to be keeping our dream alive with Transformers: War For Cybertron.
The big shoot-out with Omega Supreme at the end looks really fantastic.
It never seems to be longer than a few days before we’re posting about yet another Modern Warfare 2 patch. We know the popularity of the game has lead to plenty of exploits but, this is kind of ridiculous. The latest patch should fix the predator missile on care package exploit, plus more rebalancing for the shotguns. Oh and earning negative XP no longer happens.
Anyone still play this game? Dumb question we ’spose.
