Now that we've got the confusion over what Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales exactly is out of the way, it's time to fully look forward to the standalone superhero adventure coming to PlayStation 5 this year. After the announcement last week, developer Insomniac Games has taken the chance to reflect on the reaction with a new video which brings some new details to the table.
As described over on the PlayStation Blog, this is a "full story arc" centred around Miles that takes place one year after Marvel's Spider-Man. "Marvel’s New York is covered in snow, and just before Christmas break, a war between an energy corporation and a high-tech criminal army has broken out. Miles’s new home in Harlem is at the heart of the battle." This new instalment will feature a fresh story, more set-pieces, new villains, and unique quests. Brian Horton, creative director at Insomniac Games, even makes the comparison to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. This means that the PS5 game will be a fairly meaty experience.
It'll also take full advantage of the new features Sony has begun touting. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will include near-instant loading, ray-tracing, 3D audio, and improved 4D scans of its characters. A lot of the city's assets have also been updated to utilise the power of the PS5.

Looks good, I'm up for a bit more Spider-Man
Definitely a candidate for Christmas morning.
@Xedros But Miles Morales is Spider-Man?
I hope they scrap the radio towers and repetitive open-world busywork in favor of more organic city exploration.
@Xedros We all know you're going to play it. Dont lie on the internet. It's bad form.
@Xedros you in luck then because Miles IS Spider-Man!
So, it sucks that it’s basically DLC with no improvements on the gameplay formula?
Granted, I haven’t seen it but that’s what it sounds like from what I’ve read.
Sounds good. I reckon some people will still pretend upgraded characters and assets mean it s a remaster, right?
🤓
@LiamCroft Really? Technically your right, but it's kinda a spin-off, don't you think? I mean it's not in the mainstream Marvel Universe. It's pretty new, and after Peter dies. I'm not ready to move one so quick, after a game. A little coherence will be nice.
There's got to be a strong market for standalone shorter, cheaper games, that still retain triple AAA quality.
I mean look at the completion % of RDR2, only 32% of people complete the story. Not everyone has the time to play 100 hour epics.
@Xedros no no no, miles is another Spider-Man. He is a person similar to Peter that has superpowers and he's in plenty of the comics. Did you not see into the spider-verse? Wait did you not play the game? Because he's a main character in that and it's an organic continuation of the story, Peter training miles to be a Spiderman.
@LiamCroft who is Peter Parker then? Are there 2 Spider-man? Or is this a generic term? Like human.
@Jarobusa Yes, there are two of them.
@Jarobusa Spider-Man is more like a mantle, as is pretty much any superhero identity in the comics
Many characters have taken up the Spider-Man identity in the comics continuity. Miles was actually meant to succeed the Ultimate Universe's Peter Parker after he got killed off and temporarily sidelined, but after the Incursions event he actually got integrated into the mainstream continuity with that version's Peter Parker.
There's also Spider-Man Noir, 2099, Ben Reilly, and obviously the best one, Takuya Yamashiro
Theres only 1 spiderman and that will always be Pete. As long as this isnt full price I'm in
@TheFrenchiestFry thanks for the info. I use to read the comics but it’s been years.
@Xedros actually in the comics, miles is Spiderman alongside Peter, his moved away from ultimate and generally has his own storyline in Peters world.
@EquiinoxGII I think the film Into the Spider-Verse definitely helps to better explain and condense that idea properly to make it more understandable, so that's something I highly recommend, or even the comic event Spider-Verse/Spider-Geddon if you've been out of the loop on that sort of stuff
Spider-man is just a mantle like Batman, it's a more of a Symbol rather than someone in the suit. I'm glad we'll get a game about Miles for once, fresh new perspective
Really excited for this, and tempting me to get in on that launch!
Nice, I hope it's at least 12-20 hours game, perfect for launch titles since I want to play more ps5 games after spidey morales
@Jarobusa there are two spider-mans, yes. But not only that, Stan Lee famously said plenty of times that having Spider-Man wear a full face covering mask, not a very common thing at the rime, was precisely so that anyone could potentially be spider man.
@Deljo Stan Lee disagreed with you.
@Tharsman I'm am agreeing with the gentleman above. For me there is only one spider-man. If there are two or more it diminish the value of the character. I believe in the principle of scarcity, less is more. Of course you can invent anything to milk the cow dry (ex. X-men movies) but that doesn't give it value.
Arguing that "There can only be 1 Spider-Man" after everybody in Hollywood's played Peter Parker seems kinda silly. Spidey isn't the only hero who has multiple iterations. In fact, I think I can more easily think of heroes who have clones and alternates that I can think of those who don't.
@Tharsman Stan Lee's wrong. Dont even get me started on Thor being a woman..😉
@AhmadSumadi that literally makes zero sense, it doesnt matter who the actor was they were all playing Peter Parker...
@Deljo So Peter Parker can be 1000 different people so long as those 1000 are all playing Peter Parker? To me, that makes no sense. And comics follow different storylines and universes all the time so that explains why there are multiple iterations of 1 hero.
@AhmadSumadi Silly? Not at all. Yes, your right, many heroes have multiple iterations. But that's not the idea. They have because the writer pulled the trigger to early, or lack of new ideas etc. Ideally every character/hero should have a beginning, a context and an end. That's it, no resurrection, no other version, no parallel dimensions or any other gimmick to continue after you realized you could have made more money. Ok, I'll stop here. Who wants to play it, I'm happy for you, have fun! I bet it will be interesting.
@AhmadSumadi the actors are irrelevant as they're all playing the same character same as theres only one Bruce Wayne or James Bond. Tom Holland isnt really spiderman bud ( although his are the best spiderman movies imo) Peter Parker is
I'm so happy, this is my most anticipated PS5 game that has been revealed!
