We’re getting hungry for new The Last of Us: Part II content again – especially now that we know the title has been delayed. Fortunately, an eagle-eyed ResetEra poster has dug up some new assets from the hotly anticipated sequel’s website. These are all taken from the title’s recent gameplay demo, so you may have seen them before – but they were new to us.
We particularly like the workbench shot, which shows Ellie tinkering with her rifle. The level of detail is looking unprecedented – it’s perhaps no wonder that developer Naughty Dog needs a little more time.

I guess I'd seen these on the trailer, though it's always pleasant to look at these beauties again.
I especially like the first one with the workshop table. Saw that short clip of Ellie upgrading the pistol... it's so amazing every damn time.
Oh my goodness my PS4 is going to take off playing this beast!
It looks so good, and I'm mainly a PC-player. - But then what?... They're going to "remaster" this for the PlayStation 5?... I mean, probably.
@Rudy_Manchego It wouldn't be more than any other game that creates the "jet engine effect". - Best you have the latest version of the PS4, which is significantly quieter.
But yea, I really hope they've designed better cooling and acoustics for the PS5 right off the bat.
@Rudy_Manchego @MicHaeL_MonStaR I hate that "jet engine effect".
Two days ago, my wife was watching something on Hulu via the Xbox One X and I was playing Days Gone via Remote Play on my PS4 Pro and she literally had to turn up the volume of the TV because the fan got so loud!
But it does bring up an interesting question regarding the inner workings of the game:
When getting on the bike, the fan begins to spin up even when not moving. Perhaps getting on the bike causes the system to process more stuff in, what I assume, is an effort to keep asset pop-in from cropping up too much when speeding around the map.
Getting off the bike slows the fan down and, I assume, only the immediate area is being processed due to slower traversal speeds.
The only thing that doesn't make sense is that checking the map, skills, quests, etc. also seems to cause the system to process more as the system fan starts to ramp up a little more.
@GamingFan4Lyf I really liked Days Gone, it's quite a fun game. But boy, what a badly optimized game...
@MicHaeL_MonStaR @Rudy_Manchego @GamingFan4Lyf Funnily enough during Death Stranding my pro was as quiet as a mouse - other than a few story clips in between gameplay.
God of War on the other hand. I thought Kratos was preparing a portal in my gaming setup ready to burst through the screen.
The fan issue is only ever a thing on really high end games. No issues at all with the likes of Yakuza, Burnout Paradise etc. I hope they optimise FF7, Cyberpunk and TLOU 2 as God of War was really bad.
@LaJettatura Nice, my Pro is the first hardware version. No sense in changing to a new model with the PS5 coming around the corner.
I am wondering if there is a little bit of dust build-up in the fan, though. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to check even though my whole house is dusted every other week.
Photo #1 - left handed.
Photo #2 - right handed.
I love how strong ellie looks, Shes ripped! I cant wait!
@Salmonella Not necessarily left-handed in photo #1 because Ellie is not aiming at something or attempting to shoot. Could be she just wants a better look at the right side of the rifle for upgrade purposes.
@MicHaeL_MonStaR I have a Pro and pretty good space for ventiliation but some games do seem to hammer it.
@GamingFan4Lyf @themcnoisy The worst game so far for my Pro seemed to be Devil May Cry 5 alongside God of war but I will say I tried DMC5 on the hottest day of the year and boy oh boy was that struggling.
Discs are also worse for noise than digital I find.
I dont want to ruin the party, but i wasn't too convinced by what i've seen so far. The gameplay footage looks good, but aint something really special if you ask me.
@GamingFan4Lyf Same happened to me, but mine got worse on the map menu. I got so tired of it I looked into ways to cool the PS4 and replaced the thermal paste with Liquid metal. Whisper quiet...I was convinced the fan was broke or didn’t connect a cable back correctly because it just didn’t seem to be on...but 6 months on even paying red dead 2 the fan still does not kick in to cool the PS4 down, whisper quiet constantly and I’m super happy with it. Just use a coat of clear nail polish over the diodes surrounding the cpu for peace of mind and don’t tilt the PS4 vertical or upside down and your good to go...6 months tried and tested, dead quiet on the most demanding game’s take care
@Deanoeljenkio Interesting. I have recently gone back and the fan speed never quite hit the peaks it did the day my wife had to turn up the volume on the TV. There is still a slight uptick in fan volume on my Pro playing Days Gone, but I will chalk up the super speed fan as an anomaly.
It's too late in the PS4's lifetime for me to consider changing the thermal compound to liquid metal. I am quite familiar with thermal paste as I used to build gaming PC's, but I really don't want to risk taking my system apart and ruining the console so close to Christmas and amazing Q1 games coming to the system.
@GamingFan4Lyf totally understandable, whilst the liquid metal has worked very well for me and may even extend the life of the ps pro, it’s not for everyone and I can see why someone wouldn’t want to take a risk, mistakes do happen. Everyone’s different, with me I try to keep some electrics cool as possible to keep them longer. Absolutely, it is too late, the ps5 should have backwards compatibility anyway so perhaps no need to keep the 4. With Days Gone it may have been all those patches?? Might have better optimisations as time went on and fixed the crazy fan speeds.
@Deanoeljenkio Yes, I plan to use my Pro as a trade-in towards a PS5. I am not getting a PS5 on launch day, though (nor am I getting a Scarlett on launch day - which I intend to use my Xbox One X as a trade-in).
I am going to give it a few months to make sure there are no glaring hardware issues with the launch model systems.
@GamingFan4Lyf awsome, might do the same as you, I think they iron out any kinks with the slim model anyway. Apart from playing my big 4 (uncharted 4, Days Gone, red dead 2 and TLOU2) there’s not much reason to get a ps5 for a while. Did you hear that bend are working on a new game??? I think the lighting artist or something hinted at Days Gone 2!!
@Rudy_Manchego Yea, I guess the more is going on on-screen, the worse it will have it in terms of processing. I mean, yea, the same happens on PC if you have fans that vary in speed.
But I already found the disc-noise too much with the PS3, so good thing I decided to go all-digital with the PS4 now. Just... too bad I got the disc-versions of 'Uncharted 4' and 'The Last of Us II' because of the special editions. -_-
Man, do I wish they'd just give you a code or access to "digitize" your physical copy of a game. Just... no more discs, please. Tear the ODD out of the PS5. I know it's a big debate including the ability to possess and sell a game and so on, but it just doesn't make sense anymore. - But again, at least give the option to like "activate it online" or something. I think you can even do that with PC-games that are on a disc but then you get it on Steam anyway.
Oh well...
@themcnoisy I don't know Death Stranding too well, but it seems there's just a lot of open area in that game. I mean, it's not surprising it can keep calm in terms of processing and then with more crowded real-time scenes it need to put in a lot more work.
I'm kind of in the middle about "TLoU2". I mean, I don't know what effect the first one remastered has on the PS4 (Pro), but the sequel might be a little more demanding.
As for "CyberPunk"... I think the PS4 is going to be kinda screwed unless they significantly tone down the demand from its engine. I mean, even "Witcher 3" doesn't run that smoothly on PCs and "CyberPunk" is a good step up in terms of technology. I worry that not even a solid current PC can handle it (at least maxed out), but it's more designed for PS5 and PC-equivalents of that.
Sorry to say, but I think the latter is really much more suitable to get on PC. I might be completely wrong, also considering CDPR wants to be fair and all-inclusive for their customers. But... technology has its limitations. It might run, but with the noise.
@GamingFan4Lyf My guess is that when you add another task in the game, such as riding (activating) the bike or checking the map and so on, it will use more threads or cores or something and start to heat up immediately.
It seems silly for things as "simple" as those, but it also makes sense if you're activating more tasks within the game's engine. - Again, just my poor guess if I have think about it technically.
