Detroit: Become Human - How to Keep Kara Alive Survivors Guide

How to Keep Kara Alive in Detroit: Become Human

Kara, the housemaid character in Detroit: Become Human, explores the idea of parenthood – and what it means to androids. As such, you can help her to form a family with fellow android Luther and adopted child Alice. If you’d like to know how to keep Kara, Luther, and Alice together in Detroit: Become Human, then click through the link for our guide. Alternatively, you can learn how to get Kara and Alice to pass the border in Detroit: Become Human.

Stormy Night

It's possible for Kara to die right at the very start of the game, in the scene where Todd beats Alice. If you follow Todd's instructions and remain still, then he will end up killing you and Kara's story will end. You need to ensure that you break free from your programming, protect Alice, and escape from the house with the little girl. This will start you on your journey.

On the Run

If you trigger the chase scene with Connor and you're spotted in On the Run, it's possible for Kara to get hit by a car if you fail to get the QTEs correct. Just make sure you're on your toes and hitting the right button prompts – or better yet, don't get caught.

Zlatko

Kara can die in Zlatko's torture den, so if you want to make it to the end of the game alive, you're going to need to make sure you escape from this creepy mansion. Be sure to unlock the doors in the basement, freeing the androids who've been experimented on. Once you've rendezvoused with Alice, make sure you complete all of the QTE sequences in the subsequent combat encounter – or remain in stealth. Whichever approach you take, make a beeline for the backdoor, where Luther will aid you in your escape. The freed androids will help with your getaway, and Kara will live to see another day. Refer to our guide on how to keep Kara, Luther, and Alice together in Detroit: Become Human if you want to maintain the family unit.

Crossroads

Kara will need to save Luther when he gets injured if you want to keep the family together. Towards the very end of the scene, when Kara and Alice get outside, you'll need to play dead. Stay perfectly still while the soldiers inspect the bodies, and then make your exit. If you surrender in this scenario, then you can find out how to get Kara and Alice to escape the recycling center in Detroit: Become Human through the link.

Battle for Detroit

Stealth your way past the military and save Luther if you want to. Make your way to the checkpoint and take the longer detour to the bus terminal if you have the time to spare. If you don't then you'll need to go through the checkpoint; the key is to keep your cool and don't make any rash decisions while the soldier questions you. Do not shoot when you're prompted, too – you're going to get through.

You're going to need to play the thief once you get to the bus terminal, as you don't have any tickets that will get Kara across the Canadian border. Steal the tickets from the family, and no matter how bad you feel about it, hold onto them. Once you get to border control, you can choose to sacrifice some of your allies to get through, but if Markus leads a peaceful protest, then the security officer at the kiosk will turn a blind eye. This will get you across the Canadian border, and will complete Kara's story safely.

All the Ways Kara Can Die in Detroit: Become Human

These are all the possible ways Kara can die in Detroit: Become Human. Keep this in mind while you play in order to keep the character alive:

  • Stormy Night: If you don't save Alice from Todd's rampage, he'll kill both of you in cold blood. Protect the girl at all costs and you'll make it out alive.
  • On the Run: If you're detected by police and forced into the chase sequence with Connor, make sure you're precise with the QTEs, otherwise Kara and Alice will get hit by a car.
  • Zlatko: If you're sloppy with your stealth and QTEs, then Zlatko will kill you. Unlock the gate in the basement to recruit help from other androids, and rely on Luther to buy you time.
  • Battle for Detroit: If you don't sacrifice anyone to create a diversion at the border control, and Markus doesn't lead a peaceful protest, then you'll be reported to the authorities and shot on sight.

How to Keep Alice Alive in Detroit: Become Human

Alice is Kara's adopted child in Detroit: Become Human. You'll need to look after her, and your primary objective is to help her to cross the Canadian border, where if you keep Kara, Alice, and Luther together, you'll start a new family. Generally if you follow the above guide for Kara, then Alice will make it through the game safely. However, be careful at the start of the game in the Stormy Night chapter, as the youngster can become the victim of Todd's rage.

All the Ways Alice Can Die in Detroit: Become Human

Generally if you manage to save Kara, then Alice will live through Detroit: Become Human, too. But keep the following in mind if you want to keep the character alive:

  • Stormy Night: If you don't interrupt Todd's rampage, then he'll beat Alice and kill her. As Kara, you need to turn deviant and make sure you protect the little'un.
  • On the Run: If you trigger the chase sequence with Connor by being spotted, make sure you get the QTEs right, otherwise both Kara and Alice can be killed by a car.

How to Keep Luther Alive in Detroit: Become Human

Luther will join Kara in the Zlatko chapter if you want him to. It's best to keep him by your side, though, and you can find out how to keep Kara, Alice, and Luther together at the end of Detroit: Become Human in our guide. Once he's joined you, it's the Crossroads chapter where you need to take most care. When he gets injured, make sure you go back and help him. You'll get split up, but in the Battle for Detroit chapter you'll have an opportunity to save him from the military. Take it, and then don't sacrifice him at the Canadian border. Instead rely on Markus leading a peaceful protest.

All the Ways Luther Can Die in Detroit: Become Human

Again, Kara plays a key role in the fate of Luther in Detroit: Become Human, much in the same way as Alice does. These are the two scenes when you need to be particularly careful if you hope to help Luther survive:

  • Midnight Train: If you don't send Luther upstairs with Alice in the Midnight Train chapter, then he may get shot when discovered by the cop. To find out how Kara can succeed in making the cop go away in Detroit: Become Human, click through the link.
  • Crossroads: When the military attack Jericho, Luther will get injured. If you leave him then he'll get shot, so help him up. Kara and Alice will separate from him at this stage, but don't worry, he'll make it out of the freighter.
  • Battle for Detroit: As you sneak your way to the bus terminal, you'll happen upon Luther and Jerry. Save them both and don't sacrifice them at the Canadian border.

How to Keep Jerry Alive in Detroit: Become Human

Jerry is a bit of a throwaway character that Kara encounters in the pirate theme park portion of Detroit: Become Human. In the Battle for Detroit chapter, he'll be held hostage with Luther. Free them both, and then choose not to sacrifice him at the Canadian border.

All the Ways Jerry Can Die in Detroit: Become Human

Things only really get desperate for Jerry at the very end of Detroit: Become Human. Here's what you need to be aware of if you want to keep him breathing.

  • Battle for Detroit: Free Jerry when he's being held hostage with Luther, and then don't sacrifice him at the Canadian border.
Detroit: Become Human - How to Keep Markus Alive Survivors Guide

How to Keep Markus Alive in Detroit: Become Human

Markus is one of the nicer characters in Detroit: Become Human's admittedly hostile world, so you're going to want to keep the character alive if you possibly can. Unfortunately, becoming leader of the android revolution puts a perpetual target on his head, so you're going to need to be very careful if you don't want to pop your tin-can clogs before the end of the story. It's also worth mentioning that behaving hostile can get your friends like North, Josh, and Simon killed, and you're going to need them alive if you want the 'Survivors' Trophy. Here's how to keep Markus alive in Detroit: Become Human.

Freedom March

At the end of the protest scene, you'll encounter a group of police who will be hostile to the androids. You'll have three options: fight, flee, or stand your ground. If you fight then you're going to need to ensure you're precise with all the QTEs, otherwise you could take a bullet. Also keep in mind that acting in a hostile way doesn't exactly help Kara's cause because it lowers public opinion, although you can still keep Kara alive even if you choose to fight in this scene. The best option is to flee, even though Jericho will look upon you as a coward. If you stand your ground against the military, they will eventually shoot you, and while you'll ultimately become a martyr for the cause, it's not going to earn you that spangly 'Survivors' Trophy.

Battle for Detroit

If you want to help Kara cross the Canadian border, then you're going to want to lead a peaceful protest. Doing so will allow you to set up camp, while the military engages you in a stand-off. Eventually, FBI bigwig Perkins will cut you a deal: sell out your people and disband the rebellion or continue fighting for your rights. If you accept his deal, he'll promise to spare your life but kill you anyway. Instead, you want to decline his offer and rely on Connor, who as a deviant is able to infiltrate CyberLife and convert their stock of androids.

All the Ways Markus Can Die in Detroit: Become Human

These are all the possible ways Markus can die in Detroit: Become Human. You'll want to keep this in mind while you play in order to keep the character alive:

  • Freedom March: Do not stand your ground for too long, otherwise the soldiers will kill you. Instead, either fight or flee – but if you fight, remember that it will lower public opinion and you'll need to nail the QTEs otherwise you'll take a bullet to the back of your brilliantly beautiful head.
  • Battle for Detroit: Don't sell your soul to Perkins. Instead refuse his offer of a truce, and wait for Connor to bring the androids from CyberLife to support your cause. Make sure Connor escapes Amanda's counter-hacking attempt to keep Markus safe during his final speech.

How to Keep North Alive in Detroit: Become Human

North becomes one of the key figures of Markus' rebellion quite early in Detroit: Become Human. She's also a love interest – or at least, the story alludes to a relationship of that kind. She can die in Battle for Detroit if Markus accepts Perkins' deal. She can also get trapped in Crossroads, so you need to help her.

All the Ways North Can Die in Detroit: Become Human

North's pretty easy to keep alive in Detroit: Become Human, but there are a couple of ways she can die. Here's how to help North survive:

  • Crossroads: If Markus goes to plant the bomb on Jericho, then North will get trapped in a corridor. Help her otherwise you'll lose her forever.
  • Battle for Detroit: Don't accept Perkins' offer of a deal. If you do, then he'll betray you, and kill both Markus and North.

How to Keep Josh Alive in Detroit: Become Human

Josh is one of the three main resistance members that Markus will encounter on Jericho. Keeping him alive is fairly straightforward, you just need to ensure that you save him in the Crossroads chapter when the figurative excrement hits the fan.

All the Ways Josh Can Die in Detroit: Become Human

Josh is very easy to keep alive in Detroit: Become Human. All you need to do is make sure you save him when the opportunity arises.

  • Crossroads: When the military invades Jericho and Markus is running through the ship, make sure you save Josh to keep him alive.

How to Keep Simon Alive in Detroit: Become Human

Simon is one of the androids that Markus encounters on Jericho. He's the same model as Daniel from the start of the game, so you'll know which character he is. The Stratford Tower is a particularly dangerous scene for Simon, as he can die if you engage the soldiers at the security checkpoint right at the top of the building. Instead of assaulting them, knock them out. If he gets injured when you're on the roof, do not shoot him. As long as he's armed, he'll make it back to Jericho in a later scene, assuming that Connor doesn't connect to Simon. You can find out more about how to broadcast Markus' message without an alarm or team casualty in Detroit: Become Human through the link.

All the Ways Simon Can Die in Detroit: Become Human

The biggest challenge for Simon comes in The Stratford Tower chapter, where his plot armour falls off and he becomes very susceptible to death.

  • The Stratford Tower: When you reach the security checkpoint at the top of the tower, do not engage the soldiers. Instead, knock them out. If Simon gets injured on the roof, then don't shoot him. He should reconcile with Markus at Jericho in a later scene as long as Connor doesn't connect to Simon.
Detroit: Become Human - How to Keep Connor Alive Survivors Guide

How to Keep Connor Alive in Detroit: Become Human

Connor is the detective android sent by CyberLife in Detroit: Become Human to investigate "deviants". As an android himself, Connor is constantly creating back ups of his findings, and as such is able to be "redeployed" in the form of a new model even if he bites the dust. In fact, there's a Trophy if you're able to make Connor die and return at every opportunity in Detroit: Become Human in a single playthrough – although do keep in mind that it will affect Connor's relationship with Hank. Of course, once Connor turns deviant there's no coming back, so here's how to keep him alive at the end of the game.

Battle for Detroit

In order to access the CyberLife scene, you'll need to turn deviant in Crossing Roads. Markus will then need to forgive you and accept you as a part of the rebellion. This will see the story send you to CyberLife, where it's essential that Connor converts the dormant androids in order to rally them for Markus' cause. First take out the guards in the lift and then access the right floor. When you try to convert the androids, you'll encounter another Connor who will try to destroy you. If you've befriended Hank, which you'll need to do in order to prevent him from committing suicide, he will shoot the other Connor for you, saving your life. For more on how to make Hank and Connor friends until the end, click through the link. At the very end of the game, resist the counter-hacking attempt from Amanda and interact with the glowing hand panel to ensure that Connor doesn't shoot Markus.

All Connor Deaths in Detroit: Become Human

Connor can die at least eight times prior to turning deviant in Detroit: Become Human. For more information on that, check out our how Connor can die and return at every opportunity in Detroit: Become Human guide.

How to Keep Hank Alive in Detroit: Become Human

Hank is Connor's beat-down detective partner in Detroit: Become Human, and while their relationship begins in a bad place, it's possible to improve their relationship and even make them friends. You'll need to carefully maintain their friendship if you want to unlock the 'Survivors' Trophy, because otherwise Hank will commit suicide at the end of the game. You can find out how to make Hank and Connor friends until the end in our guide.

All the Ways Hank Can Die in Detroit: Become Human

Hank's pretty bulletproof throughout Detroit: Become Human, but if you don't befriend him as Connor, then he'll commit suicide at the end of the game.

  • Battle for Detroit: Befriend Hank, otherwise he'll commit suicide at the end of the game, thus preventing you from earning the 'Survivors' Trophy.
